one of us will get it this year, maybe both. there are a few times i thought it was going to happen, but never did. if om can pull off the boise state game, vandy game, and lala, they will be hosting gameday three weeks later for the bama matchup.

Thanks for posting ...

Never been a College Gameday fanatic but it is interesting that neither State nor OM have hosted OR played at a CGD site while ...

Troy, Bowling Green, Williams, Florida A&M and Pennsylvania have all hosted and ...

Amherst, Delaware State, Grambling, Hampton, Harvard, and Northern Ill have all played at a CGD

I just think you are overestimating our place in the CFB world. Is it not clear enough that after however many years of us not being on (and UM), that they are not all of a sudden going to appear? Even if Ole Miss is 4-0, there are a several other games with at least as much appeal and will generate more ratings for ESPN. Baylor/Texas, LSU/Auburn, Nebraska/Michigan State, etc.

I'll also freely admit that I don't care that much about Gameday. I've seen it here and it's just not that big of a deal to me.

It really is amazing

that they've never been to Oxford, with as many accolades that the grove and oxford have received.

Several thoughts....

MSU and Ole Miss are the only 2 schools from the SEC to have never played in the game they are at. I was shocked to learn that #19 Vandy was the site of Gameday back in 2008 when they hosted #13 Auburn, and that #8 Kentucky hosted #14 Florida in 2007.

I thought mississippi had played on a CGD game. Guess I was mistaken
I'd think CGD would have been to mississippi for no other reason but to cover the grooooove (sarcasm fully deployed)
When one of the two does score a visit it will be a bitter pill for the other one.
Wouldn't it be cool if the Egg Bowl is ever relevant enough to get a visit
To the point above, I hope it is never relevant enough by reason of the bears program is in the tank.
Vandy and UK have both played on CGD? Wow. That smarts considerably.
Hard to believe that no game during the JWS era ever scored a visit.
Also hard to believe the LSU/mississippi game in peeli's sr season was not a CGD.
Maybe its the whole flag thing

Sounds to me like an ESPN silent boycott until the flag is changed.

Not to hyjack ...

And looking at our schedule this year, looks like our best chances of 'being at' CGD is ...

20 Sep @ LSU ... would probably mean that both would need to be 3-0 ... other SEC games are Bama @ Gators & USCe @ Vandy

Chances to host CGD ...

4 Oct Tx A&M ... would take a win @ LSU ... other SEC games are Florida @ UT (think neither will be unbeaten), Vandy @ Georgia, USCe @ KY, Bama @ OM (both could be unbeaten), LSU @ Aub (Both could be unbeaten 'if' LSU beats State)

11 Oct Auburn ... would mean that both of us beat LSU and State beat Tx A&M, both are unbeaten ... other SEC games are LSU @ Florida, Missouri @ GA, Bama @ Arky, Tx A&M @ OM

Man, those late 2000's UK teams were pretty damn good. I completely forgot about them hosting.

I think we beat them that year at their place, and I think the band stayed late and played "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY HEY BABY!" with a pretty large MSU crowd singing along.

Good times.

Rumor back in the day was we made the short list for the weekend of the 2000 Florida game but got dropped out of consideration when we lost to SC.

I would say

the propensity of both programs sucking so much over the last 10+ years probably had more to do with it.

i dont think they will do it based on a decision of merit necessarily, but maybe one of opportunity early in the season. my line of thinking is that they might want to expose the nation to mississippi in a format that they have never done before in a time they look to bolster the SECN. my thoughts on the matter are more linked to supporting the sister network and eliminating the novelty of having 2 mississippi schools without gameday (one of them allegedly having the best tailgating in the universe). if they have chosen vandy and uk before, they could choose state and om. im not saying they WILL, but the chances are more favorable and i could see one of us getting it. im not saying they will, as history is certainly against us, but it is certainly a more favorable environment. of course, if we tank early or have 2 or more losses headed into the auburn game, you can forget it, but that goes without saying.

That could be the case, but it never stopped them from doing games in Georgia..

Before Georgia took the Confederate X off their flag, CGD went to Athens, and Atlanta as well....

I'm guessing there are two primary drivers.....

Rumor back in the day was we made the short list for the weekend of the 2000 Florida game but got dropped out of consideration when we lost to SC.

The biggest one is match-up on a given week. A team might get game day because if just happens that there is not a better match up that week. Other bigger games don't get it because there are better match-ups.

The second is pedigree. UF has 36 game day appearances because they are a nationally popular team with winning tradition. I'm sure ESPN production staff sits down before the season and pencils in potentially interesting match-ups for each week that might be CGD material and 99.9% of those games feature the 'big-boys". They can and do adjust as the season progress and teams win their way on CGD. I will wager that none of the games on that preseason list feature State or UM.

I was really being more sarcastic than anything else because that's the first thing that popped in my mind when it was stated that the ONLY schools from the SEC that had not been featured on Gameday were from MS. The state's image doesn't help but I know there are a lot more factors to it than that.

If Dak shows out, and we beat LSU and A&M, and Auburn is undefeated, I don't see how they wouldn't come to Starkville for the Auburn game. Dak would easily be in Heisman talks and a media darling, so they'd love to showcase him and the new stadium. Even with one loss and Dak stepping into the spotlight, I could see them coming for the Auburn game, assuming Auburn is good.

I'm pretty confident they'll be in Oxford on October 4 if we're 4-0.

Typical Ole Miss style would be to find a way to lose one of those games...That, or to get there at 4-0 only to have Bama stumble against both WVU and UF, so that they come in 2-2.

But if we're both 4-0, I'm fairly confident they'll be in Oxford.

Bjork was asked about it this morning during a radio interview, and he said they've more or less penciled in that date if it's two 4-0 teams (with Bama probably still No. 2 and us probably ranked around 12).

I'm favoriting this.

I've seen a lot of our fans complain about it. I've asked them to point out a time when we've hosted the biggest game of any given weekend. You can't do it. They could've come to Oxford before, but they'd have had to pass over other obviously bigger games nationally to get there.

They occasionally make a trip to somewhere like Air Force or North Dakota during some of those really awful weeks when no ranked teams are playing each other, just to get a novelty trip in, but they aren't going to do a novelty trip to an SEC school.

They won't even think of coming here cause of the Flag and both of us are not large enough IE Bama, LSU to overcome that.

Yea, Miss'ippi State is way smaller than ... Bowling Green, Florida A&M, Penn, Troy, Houston and that mammoth Williams which have all HOSTED CGD**
