Post season play & conference championships maybe? Why do we average a 10 game season while others average 11?
Teams AVERAGE conference championships? That can't be.Post season play & conference championships maybe?
Teams AVERAGE conference championships? That can't be.
I assume, like most of these things, it's meaningless. No, not average championships, but the additional bowl games and championships could be why the other teams have more games per season over time.
I also assumed there was some questionable rounding going on, to give some teams only 10 games a year.
Scheduling formats and requirements have different significantly over this time frame. Why do we average a 10 game season while others average 11?
That would be true for everyone.Scheduling formats and requirements have different significantly over this time frame.
Yes. That is why there are so many varying averages. That would be true for everyone.
So you're saying that something that is the same for everyone explains the variance?Yes. That is why there are so many varying averages.
In 1955, SC played 9 games. In 1965, SC played 10 games. 11 game schedules didn't really become the norm until around 1970. From 1925 until 1970, football seasons were generally 8 to 10 games. Also, pre-1950 or so, there was a lot of variance in the number of games each team played each season. SC wasn't regularly playing 10+ games a year until around the middle of the 20th Century. I'm sure some programs were playing that many games every season a lot earlier.
See the posts from Uscg1984 & Piscis today, they explained what I was referring toSo you're saying that something that is the same for everyone explains the variance?![]()
