Checking the fall schedule in this first partial year of the big 3 deal NBC-CBS-FOX, to see if we were the first CBS game (sadly the 2nd, OSU plays on Saturday) and am seeing that IOWA has over HALF their games on national TV! More than Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State … how did that happen!

FS1 - opener
FOX - sept
CBS - sept
NBC - oct
NBC - oct
NBC - oct
CBS - nov

Plenty of games have yet to be announced. OSU and Michigan will likely have 9 or 10 of 12 on networks by the end of the regular season.

TV loves to promote the U of Iowa Children’s Cancer Center at halftime plus Kirk Ferentz is an icon . They have held a high level in sports for decades and I don’t think anyone should question that . If it were Rutgers we would be doing cartwheels and backflips . Rutgers needs to do a better job promoting its game day environment in downtown NB and the game. That comes with the caveat … Gotta Win .

I remember sitting in a high school class in the 1980s, and we had some jock substitute teacher not willing to teach us anything except about sports, which was just fine in English class. I remember he quizzed the class, which had a few football players in it- "Anyone plan to go to Iowa?" The class burst out in laughter, and he made us do 100 pushups (last part is a lie). But anyway, my dumb little story may indicate that outside of the East Coast, Iowa is seen as a college football major brand. Sorry to say, but Rutgers is not---yet. We had a moment in 2006, when we were there, but we did not hang around long enough.

Iowa is a milk toast meaningless state. If and when Rutgers wins consistently, it all changes.

When Ole Miss was losing for years and years they and TV still pushed the tailgate scene in The Grove.. no actual tailgates involved.. and they used to say Ole Miss loses games but has never lost a tailgate.

I don’t know about anyone else but as a longtime Rutgers guy since 1967 I can only hope we get to Iowa football status .maybe not Michigan / Ohio State/Penn State but they’ve been pretty good over the years.

Iowa has great home crowds and wins more often than not. RU would be on TV as often or more if we had their record over 20 seasons.
