We'll see on Hays. She never played against anyone in high school her size so this has been a real adjustment. We'll see what Jan and Randi can do with her in a full off season. We'll have bigger (no pun intended) needs in the off season with just one player in the 26 class and we'll need help in the back court much worse.

Hays played against the likes of Sienna Betts (6-4), Sarah Strong (6-2), Joyce Edwards (6-3), Arianna Roberson (6-4), Zania Socka (6-3), etc while she was in high school. She had a bad game Sunday, probably her worst of the season...it's going to happen. But she's got the aggressiveness that some of the others over the years have lacked. If either her or Ava can develop a consistent 15-18 foot jumper it would be interesting to see them on the floor at the same time, but there would obviously have to be the right matchups defensively to allow that to happen.

They should be well rested after that first half.

A lot of hand wringing and whining in this thread, yet the ladies still came out with the win. I guess Jan knows what she is doing after all.
I maybe fitted into the hand wringing, I was just agreeing with someone about Coach JJ not having her team ready for a road game with a poor record. Whatever JJ did at half worked !!!
We do not know the health of the team at the time and deciesions by JJ always work in hindsight....

Okay then. I obviously have little knowledge of who she played against in Alaska. I was simply going off what she said in one of her early interviews. SHE said she had never played agaisnt anyone her size in high school so that was one of her biggest adjustments. Its seems odd that she would have played against two national All Americans like Betts and Strong and made that comment. She has exhibited some decent form on a 13-15 ft jumper as has Ava in some games. Thats why its puzzling that she reportedly shot around 46% from the free throw line in high school and she's certainly struggling with that in her first year here.

HS is struggling with free throws and she's a senior.

Ava has a pretty consistent 13-15' shot today. Didn't show today, but it has throughout the season.

The easy part of the conference schedule is over.
Splitting the next six games is probably best case scenario.

We'll see if JJ has figured things out.
A split is probably the most likely outcome as I see it. Iowa is very tough to beat at home so I like them to win vs Oregon, MSU, and OSU. Road games at Maryland, USC, and UCLA will be very difficult places to win this year. With that said, OSU just won at Maryland so you never know.

Would love a split to go 3-3 in those 6 games. Hope you’re right that Iowa is very tough to beat at home. Iowa has 7 likely tournament teams left on the home schedule. 5-2 in those games to finish 7-2 in conference home games would be great, and a 2-game improvement from Jan’s first year.

USC isn't as dominant this year. They lost to Oregon at home. I don't think 4-2 is out of the question with that schedule.

Well nothing is out of the question. I was just suggesting what I thought was most likely. I think anything better than that pretty much makes a top 4 seed a given. Oregon beating USC on the road maybe says Oregon is really good as well. SB a challenging matchup this week.

I watched that Oregon/USC game. Iowa is going to have a tough time keeping up with both teams, Both pretty much play loose run and gun. (i.e. Emely's game, but with more on the court just like her), so it was like watching tennis, back and forth but still a low scoring game. You would have imagined a 90 point game the way it was moving.

The good news is that style of chaotic play can get beat if the chaos isn't working in their favor. Forcing missed shots and cutting off lanes to create uncontrolled passing can negate all that speed, so it will be interesting to see how Iowa decides to play. Could get blown off the court, or it very possibly could be two possible Ws. Hard to know what the Hawkeyes will bring Thursday.

*With USC, you have to stop Davidson, first and foremost.

I believe Oregon can be exploited big time on the interior and they are a not a good rebounding team.

Question for you then. Would you have left Hannah in there for the end of game must foul situation to receive the ball, and if so, why?
Good question and I guess I would need to have been inside Coach’s head to see what her reasons were. I don’t remember the specific time remaining and game situation. I certainly agree with you that we all feel more comfortable with our best free throw shooters on the court at the end of a foul situation game. My point was not about this specific situation as you have a good point. My comment was more my wanting us to consider what we have and what we should be grateful for. in my mind I see a really good team and coaching staff. I can question many decisions of Hawkeye players and coaches but I love our group and have their back. I think too many on the board are way too negative without walking in the shoes.
