I wouldn’t expect to you to understand this so I’ll explain it to you.

here’s an example. Maybe I’ll give you a few

it’s easy to not break the law but it’s hard for idiots to stay out of jail

it’s easy for me to call the irs but it’s hard to get them on the phone.

its easy to fix equipment at a manufacturing plant, it’s hard to get capital money approved.

it’s easy to fix the if red tape and politics weren’t in the way.

It’s impossible to be efficient and effective when consequences don’t exist.
You can’t have a functioning society when consequences don’t exist.
You can’t have a functioning anything (irs, team, military, etc) when consequences don’t exist.

ETA: @mstateglfr coming in to pick one of my examples to disprove my point. #Forrest4TheTrees

DOGE was all fluff and no substance. DOGE simply created chaos in society and the economy for four months.

It continually lied, misrepresented, and speculated instead of sticking to facts.

I am all for finding ways to legitimately reduce spending due to redundancy, and spending in the short term to save in the long term.
But DOGE existed to flood the zone with claims to ensure little could be actually fact checked in real time before the next misrepresented outrage claim was released.
No it didn't PERIOD

You aren't for finding ways to legitimately reduce spending or you would admit that DOGE found quite a bit of BS spendigng.

The federal govt spends close to $7 trillion annually. How much does "quite a bit" mean? DOGE actually found little, wasted money by paying people not to work (I know several getting paychecks) and, any reasonable person will conclude didn't come close to accomplishing what Musk said it would. So it found a few dumbass programs we shouldn't have had. That's what happens in govt. DOGE maybe saved a few billion and you can't get the IRS on the phone now. Efficiency. Clinton cut the govt in the 90s without some peacocking Ric Flair DOGE nonsense.

The 'BS spending' that was found is not waste, fraud, and abuse. It was examples of spending money on programs that were approved, but do not align with the current Administration's views. That isnt 'BS spending' though...its just ending financial support for programs.
Additionally, a lot of that 'BS spending' was spending going back to the beginning of the 2000s. Some examples date back to when W Bush was president. That isnt saving any money now or moving forward.

Again- I fully support substantive improvements to processes and infrastructure that will reduce spending and/or improve efficiency.

billions in 18 to 20 weeks while fighting every liberal in government to do that.

Now imagine everyone got onboard and opened up the door and helped find the waste, fraud and abuse and 12 to 24 months from now?

I'm not surprised you are too dumb to get this but here it is again.

Regardless of administration
sending $1 to any where for trans comic books is waste.
sending $1 to any where for gender studies is waste.
sending $1 to any where outside the USA for "positive youth experience" is waste

How many do you want me to name?

I am not arguing in favor of the things you cited.
I am saying that someone can view the cost of a program as beneficial while someone else can view the cost as wasteful.

Additionally, I am saying DOGE created a lot of chaos and misinformation because misrepresented data and claims were continually released to the public.
That misinformation and misrepresentation hurt public trust.

Not only that.....these programs were all voted on and enacted into law. If you have problems with said law, talk to the elected leaders to enabled it. But you can't because they are long gone and now bltching about the current leaders and blaming them along with the rest of the hive mind drooling about muh waztfradbuse.

This notion of going undercover and supposedly finding a bunch of W-2 (no pun intended) government workers doing a bunch of crooked shlt is absolute nonsense, and it's really exposed the intellect of the Republican base. They truly think the 'government' is some hulking figure somewhere, i.e. the infamous 'they'. I know the liberals have their share of idiotic talking points too, like all the police stuff, but this garbage has really brought it back into center for me.

Its waste. It doesn't matter what someone argues. Its wastes. Making that public is good.

A lot of what you are calling misrepresented isnt. Saying I saved the company $5 million isn't a lie even if its $500,000 over 10 years. I still saved them $5 million.

You should want all of that BS public.

We gave a lot of GD money away to stupid things. You should want that public. Thank you DOGE!!!

Please recognize that you are taking a subjective view and claiming it is an objective view.
The very same thing could be claimed by supporters of the programs/spending and you would disagree with them...yet using your approach, they are right just because they say 'it is valuable. It doesn't matter what someone argues. It is valuable.'

Claiming an opinion is a fact is one of the reasons why we as a society are so totally broken with misinformation and distrust.

Yes, eliminating future payments can be viewed as 'saving'. Applying that 'saving' to a current amount saved is dishonest accounting.
Additionally, citing funding that was already spent, possibly decades ago, as evidence of waste or fraud is dishonest.

Lastly, the Social Security spreadsheet disaster is shameful. Releasing that on social media without correct context is unforgivable. People's safety was threatened because of that. It pushed both sides to further distrust government.

It is remarkably easy finding govt spending on things I don't like. It's easy to do that anywhere on the planet. Hell my wife says I waste money and I think she does at times. You seem to think there's some vast conspiracy to cover up trillions in wasteful spending as opposed to finding idiotic programs that amount to a rounding error.

I'm not disputing what you say because there's no denying the chaos that DOGE generated earlier this year, but the whole misinformation/misrepresentation comment is 100% a two way street. For every right-led article about all the incredible savings and waste reduction, there was a left-led counterpart about all the global catastrophes that were being created.

OMG, all programs for those with disabilities are about to be vanish! OMG, get ready to wait 6 months for a tax refund because the IRS is being gutted! OMG, the department of Education is being closed and no one will receive financial aid any longer!

I guess my only point here is that political media absolutely sucks, but it sucks equally for both sides.

This is a leopardsatemyface level thread if there ever was one on SPS.

As for the generalized rants about how the IRS should be simplified, well yeah I bet everyone but accountants would like that...but changing it isnt that simple. Neither side does anything to fundamentally simplify the overall tax experience for individuals or businesses. And based on how some update costs were framed in the winter(as waste, fraud, and abuse), the cost to streamline the tax experience would be ironically rejected by many who support streamlining.
There's close to 100 words in this post, and it says absolutely nothing.

Glfr it’s really simple.

we spend too much money as a government. No intelligent argument can be made against that.

if you libs would come out and say, hey we agree with the premise of DOGE but let’s take a structured approach let’s cut spending by X amount yearly over the next 5 years. Great.

But instead you cry foul and make up BS. Nothing DOGE did was terrible. Nothing. Could they have been better about it? Sure. We all can improve BUT THE LIBERAL TAKE IS THEY ARE COMING AFTER NECESSARY PROGRAMS. Thats total BULL$H1T.

Adjust for inflation we’ve increased spending by 40% plus in 20 ish years. That’s too much spending whether you can admit it or not.

We haven't fired enough of them.

The problem isn't number of employees. It's what those employees are focused on.
How do you know this? Can you point me to some legit studies that show how many employees the IRS has, what they are actually doing and how many they actually need to meet current obligations? What exactly are the employees focusing on that means we don't need them? Are you a fan of defunding the police, that is, the tax police?

I agree with you to an extent but it doesn’t suck equally. They both suck but one is WAY WAY more dishonest than the other.

Example. Saying $30 million to gender studies when $5 million went to gender studies and $25 million when to some other bull$h1t is technically not true. It’s way different than screaming that people would starve bc of cuts that were never even considered (EVEN THOUGH THEY SHOULD BE).

I doubt anyone really disagrees that we spend too much. It's really easy to say that when none of us are in govt and have to cut programs. That's not my argument. It's like when I argued with libs about defunding the police. I mentioned that the cops kill about 20 unarmed blacks per year yet people think it's hundreds or thousands. He said 20 is still too many so the police should be defunded. That strikes me as a similar argument to the one you're making.(Shut it down. This shouldn't be happening at all.)

You seem oddly triggered by this. Hitting close to home I guess.

The IRS had plenty of time to target conservatives with audits during the last couple of democrat admins - they even funded the hiring of thousands more for that purpose. Need a regulation to go after people who receive a penny more than $600 in their paypal account? The IRS is on top of it! Let's stand up a wing of the IRS to perform "bank deposit analysis!".

We need to hire some police to police the IRS.

The biggest government waste wasn't even touched. Elon didn't find the Trillions of dollars that the military somehow "lose" every year. My Audit professor talked about how he was on an Aircraft carrier dumping all this military equipment into the ocean because they had to get rid of it for the budget.

Elon was counting couch cushion money while corporations are stealing out of the bank.

Has Rand Paul did his annual deep dive where he shows the Pentagon can't account for the majority of their budget?

Well you could probably get this from DOGE if you let them go in and actually look at everything.

But here are some examples and they have been going on for years. Some have been listed in this thread.

1 you can’t get anyone on the phone
2When you do you get disconnected or told to call back
3 They don’t email
4 They can’t keep up with records that shouldn’t require man power rather it should only require a good software system and some temp employees to enter data. Even some of that can be automated.
5 they have time to tell you you owe money but don’t have time to review your reply that shows proof of payment. How about prioritizing? If someone owes me, I’m gonna make 80% of my time go to collecting who owes me but efficient and effective would be getting it right to start wjth

i can share my MDEQ stories again where you could cut 20% of the work force easily and never miss a beat. Even without some slightly modern technology.

have you ever tried to get a liquor license?
Any other government license?
DMV?

How is that argument even remotely the same?

1000 people killed by the police
20 unarmed
Out of those 20 15 are Michael brown trying to physically kill an officer

vs 50% increase in spending after adjusting for inflation when 25 years ago no one was starving or dying etc

if that amount of money worked then why doesn’t it work now?

Silver lining: you can skip your tax payments and they probably don't have the people to enforce it*** There would be some real positives to some kind of flat tax rate on income. I'm sure there would be negatives and unforeseen consequences along with it...
I've long wanted a consumption tax with things like food and basic necessities exempt or exempt to a limit. That would allow everybody to pay something into the system so nobody gets a free ride, but it makes those making umpteen million dollars to pay for if they live a lavish lifestyle. If you're Bill Gates and you want to buy 10 yachts, three private jets, and two vacation homes then you're going to pay taxes on that. If you're here illegally or make a living moving 5 K's of coke a week then and not declaring that income you're still going to pay taxes on your lavish lifestyle. It would eliminate cash under the table being an incentive.

Yes, I agree there have been a lot of 'sky is falling' articles written about the cuts.
Some of those claims have come true and we are worse off as a result.
Some of those claims have come true and we may be worse off or may not be, depending on what happens in the future.
Some of those claims have not yet come true but will with time.
Some of those claims have not come true and will not come true so we will not be worse off.

I do want to make a distinction here and point out that the DOGE chaos I have had in mind was covered by media on both sides, but the chaos was created by DOGE itself. DOGE chose how information would be released and chose to release it in haphazard and incomplete ways. DOGE chose to release incomplete information to the general public and allowed the general public to run wild with guesses, interpretations, and conclusions.

they typically have loopholes that they exploit to pay nearly no taxes, sometimes literally zero
You need someone to explain to you what the word "income" means. Rich people pay most of the annual tax receipts, and are taxed at a higher rate based on income.

If you are rich but have no income, you won't pay tax.

1755194244400.png

If you are making money off of dividends, those are taxed differently.

1755194454223.png

There's plenty of nuance because the tax code is too complex. Yes, there are tax shelters that rich people can take advantage of to lower their tax bill. But this old left wing trope of rich people "not paying their fair share" is stupid. If they're reporting income, they're paying tax on it, and likely at a much higher rate than what you're paying on your income.

So this story that claims vastly reduced wait time on phone calls is wrong? **

well i'm not sure if you know this or not but the IRS and Social Security are very different.

But let me be clear, we should dismantle SS as it is today.

And for an experiment i just called the socical security number. 70 minute wait time BUT and here's the important part. THEY USED MODERN TECHNOLOGY AND COMMON SENSE.

They have an automated call back service. It even comes with text messaging to let you know when they are going to call. THE IRS HASN'T MADE IT THIS FAR YET.

Again you said it's what employees are focused on but couldn't provide some legit study. Does that mean you're cool with it now with the number of employees it has? Y'all have a habit of taking something that happens rarely and exaggerating it. Are there idiotic K-12 teachers pushing gender theory in some classrooms? Sure but it's likely no more than 1%. Should it happen, no, but people then claim Marxist K-12 teachers are transing kids everywhere when it's a small number. Perspective
