We don't have any history in the BIG and thus really have no rivals

Likewise no one considers us their rival due to the above and furthermore it is hard to consider a middling BIG team a rival. Nebraska is just another average to slightly above average conference opponents on the schedule.
I agree with this. As of right now, we don't have any rivals. Those rivalries that were mentioned, were in the past.. a past we flushed down the toilet when we came to this conference. The program in many ways, is without it's identity. We are not the Nebraska we used to be anymore. Our decision makers chose money & security above all else, and they are too cheap to hire someone capable of winning a national title.

Never been to an Iowa board - period. Never posted on any another team's board - period. In general, if you are posting on another team's board, you are either an epic loser or desperate for attention.
Still mad I see? I've been here for a few months and I've found good conversations on Nebraska, Iowa, and the B1G. It's nice to get away from the drivel on the home board sometimes and check out other perspectives. I think I'll stay a while.

To me Iowa and Wisconsin are now our rivals. They are who we need to beat to win the West. People can pine all they want for Oklahoma but that has been dead for years. Right now we are getting our asses kicked by those 2 teams and we need to get to their level before we start calling OSU, Michigan or Penn State our rivals. The goal is to dominate the west, the rest will come after that.

Cool...hope you get the attention from NU fans that you clearly crave.

Oklahoma ended when the Big XII formed. No one can convince me otherwise. Iowa is getting there. Still hate Colorado. Really hate Mizzou. Do Hawkeyes feel the rivalry forming with us?

Forming...not quite there, yet, but potential for "epic" is there.

Oklahoma was our Michigan/Ohio State. We hated/respected them at the same time. The Big 12 ruined that rivalry. Colorado was a forced rivalry.

Iowa? I hate them more than Colorado, but I was from Eastern Nebraska so to me it's a natural rivalry. It will have to grow over time. If Iowa keeps on being the end of the year game then yes, I'll grow to hate them. I'll be honest, I've never respected them. Good people and you guys do have scoreboard. But Iowa is going to have to do something other than beat NU.

This Hawkeye doesn't. Maybe if I was younger or lived in western Iowa I would but Nebraska is pretty much just another tough Big Ten opponent Iowa plays each year. Kind of like Wisconsin.

I guess we can say Wisconsin is our rival, but ask them about it? They own us worse than Texas owned us in the Big 12. Do you consider someone a rival that you beat literally every time you step on the field and somebody that has not had a championship of any type for decades? Ask a Wisconsin fan if we are their rivals and they will laugh their *** off – as they damn well should.

I can't stop you from bad mouthing our team and that's fine… But if you're going to bad mouth our team, at least get your facts straight. We are 1-5 against Wisconsin and 1-9 against Texas in conference.

Now go ahead and resume your regular bashing of the huskers.

Impressive!!! Big difference as we have only been in the B1G 6 years. I guess you see the trend changing against Wisconsin. I like your optimism in pointing out the differences in sh**ty performances, but I understand. What else do we have right now?

I feel at this time Nebraska does not have a true rival, and during my lifetime Oklahoma has been the only true rival. I also feel that the Oklahoma game was more of a rival game for Nebraska, then it was for Oklahoma. With the formation of the Big 12 whatever rivalry may have existed between the two schools was lost. Nebraska has not been in the B1G long enough for a rivalry to currently exist with current B1G teams, and I fear as the structure of college football seems to continually change there may never be a true rival for Nebraska.

The point about Nebraska/Oklahoma that needs to be made is that when the two teams met on the field a lot was always at stake - National championships, conference championships, undefeated seasons, top 10 rankings, bowl games. During the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's the game meant something.

To add some perspective on the "rivalry" from Iowa's point of view, many/most eastern Iowans view this game the same as many western Nebraskans do. We actually did a poll on our board this year asking which team we considered our greatest rivals/why. The results were split, with the reasoning being geography. Most eastern Iowans found Wisconsin to be our greatest rivals (with the ones in the Quad Cities area disliking Illinois a lot). Northern Iowa fans have an intense dislike of Minnesota, and western Hawkeyes dislike Nebraska.

I'm a Hawkeyes fan living in Omaha and I didn't care for NU before they joined the Big Ten. The conference re-alignment only fueled my dislike for them, to the point that I would consider the Huskers my "most hated rival." A win over them means bragging rights for the year, while a loss means I get texts from more than a few Husker fans rubbing it in.

I guess my point is that some of you seem to pretend that all Hawkeyes fans consider the Nebraska game our "Super Bowl," and that simply isn't the case. In fact, while I believe someday, this will be considered a solid rivalry, I'd guess that either half to the majority of Hawkeyes fans would consider this game our third or fourth biggest game (with the 4th being the dumb minority who like the Iowa State game).

Best of luck in the bowl game, and looking forward to more good Black Friday games in the future!

I would really like to see Oklahoma join the west and renew the Oklahoma/Nebraska game on Black Friday. Having friends and family that are big Husker fans makes the Iowa Nebraska game fun, but I would be okay with it on a different weekend and the Wisconsin Iowa game the last weekend.

Where does Iowa State rank on the rivalry chart with Minnesota/Illinois/Nebraska/Wisconsin?

In front of Illinois (Illinois isn't really a rival, but there are Eastern Iowans who just don't like their fans and take pleasure in beating them), behind everybody else. It's the least of our trophy games, but to deny the rivalry, especially with ISU beating us as much as they have with far inferior talent, would be silly. (Edit) Then like I said, the top three would likely be Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Nebraska depending on where you live/which fans you're surrounded by. For me it's 1. Nebraska 2. Minnesota 3. Wisconsin 4. ISU (I don't care at all about Illinois, and in fact consider Northwestern, recently, a bigger rival than them). The Floyd of Rosedale has a very cool historical significance and the games are always close, while Wisconsin is always a battle of very similar teams with similar attitudes and styles, so that's usually a fun one too. And of course, the series is like dead even (Wisconsin might have a game or two lead)

Not sure why the OP even asked the question, I know of zero Iowa fans who think Nebraska is a rival. It's just another game that happens to (for now) be held on a Friday. Our rivals are Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa State.

Oh, ok. I didn't realize that. Someone told me Iowa had won 3 of the last 4. They must have been lying.

Think most Iowa fans look at wiscy, gophers then Huskers in that order. Wiscy and Iowa are nearly .500 against each other all time with wiscy having a slight edge. The gophers hate hawks so that makes it fun. Nebraska is on its way to be a rival for hawk fans. Seems like Nebraska thinks they are better thank lowly Iowa so don't think it's as good as other rivals.

Depends what part of the state you live in, I think if you polled the whole state it would shake out Minnesota/ Wisconsin (tie), Iowa State, Illinois/Nebraska (tie).

No not a rival. And I think that it is mutual. Oklahoma was the team that NU considered their rival in the 70's and 80's; however many OU fans would have told you that Texas was their rival while Nebraska was merely the game annually with the greatest stake. Oklahoma played Texas out of conference every year until the SWC folded because that game was important. When Nebraska left the Big XII, there were no teams that we needed to play constantly to maintain that rivalry. Likewise Iowa was not important enough to constantly schedule before we joined the B1G and I suspect would not be deemed so important that we would schedule them if we left (any more than KU or KSU were bordering state teams who we have not sought fit to schedule in football). It seems that the perception of "rivalry" is often portrayed as one of 2 teams looking each other in the eye, when in reality it is the team who you most deeply envy and covet. This is why many Nebraska fans say that Wisky is more of a rival, the team against whom we are 1-5 and who we most covet currently. Iowa does not covet Nebraska's position year in and year out; Nebraska does not covet Iowa's position. It is a good win but just another win for these teams as they split 3-3.

Oklahoma became a "rival" to NU because those games meant something-- #1 versus #2, the entire conference race coming down to that final game. These were the 2 teams of the Big 2 and Little 6 most years. The giant that NU needed to slay annually to reach the Land of Milk and Honey. Michigan/OSU will always be the Big Game but it was bigger this year. It was bigger in 2006 when it was 1 versus 2. However the Rivalry did not seem so big during the John Cooper years when Michigan won 10 of 13; it was just an interesting game played 113 times annually. Harvard/Yale is a historical footnote now because the games mean nothing. Did anyone really follow Georgia/GT or Florida/FSU that closely this year when the game did not really matter? And that is why Nebraska/Iowa is not a rivalry. The games have generally meant nothing other than another win in a 9-3 or 10-2 or 8-4 season, mere rest stops on respective roads to nowhere. Sure there are isolated hatreds (we noticed 3 different vehicles on I-80 driving back from Iowa City with some derivation of Nebraska hating/killing/sucks license plates) but they are just that--isolated. Neither team is relevant enough to engender rivalry.

Have you been to the Iowa board after an Iowa loss? Plenty of Husker fans there to rub it in.

It's definitely a rivalry with most of my Facebook friends. A lot of trash talk. As has been said numerous times, once the division is on the line, it will be a rivalry.
True.. Wisconsin would edge Iowa for me

I think if IA and Neb start having games that are truely meaningful on Black Friday, you will see thing get a little more nasty. Neb played to get in to the Big10 title game once and Iowa of course was coming in at 11-0 last year.

Wait until you get one where the winner goes to the title game and the loser sits.

Has Nebraska thought about setting up a 2 or 4 game series with Iowa State? If I remember from looking at future schedules you have games against OU coming up. Are there any other former B12 teams you want to play? As for the original question if it isn't a rivalry it is becoming one.

We have a future series coming up with Colorado, along with the Oklahoma series you mentioned. I would highly doubt Nebraska would schedule Iowa State moving forward. The only other Big 12 (or former Big 12) schools I could see Nebraska interesting in playing would be the Texas schools.
