Is it a credit to us that EVERY team we play gets up for us?

Or is our defense just always bad? Seriously we get everyone's best shot. Vandy plays their best game of the year against us year in and year out and yet in back to back years they lose to a double digit seed in the NCAAT? Maybe we're respected enough to where everybody just gets up to play us. Or is Kevin Stallings just a ****** coach and he needs to be fired, Coach34? And I realize that he's been to the sweet 16, but it's been a while. It seems every team we play no matter early or late in the year or NCAAT plays their best against us. The other thought is that WE ARE MISS ST, and no matter what, we will always underachieve and/or get everyone else's best shot at us.

You could say that some of the non-conference teams "got up" for their game against us, but mostly, we couldn't guard and rebound for ****.

I should have clarified. I meant in general...over the years. Not necessarily this year although Vandy definitely put together two of their best games of the year against us.

Whether it is Jenkins, Taylor, Ogly, or Shan Foster (everyone remembers he dropped a career high 42 points on us a few years ago WHILE he was being double teamed 30 feet from the goal). It is really frustrating. They beat us when it doesn't matter, but then CONSISTENTLY lay an egg in the NCAAT against competition they should easily handle. Yet another reason I really hate Vandy...

So that kinda goes with everyone gives us their best shot whether it's the entire team or just one player-the RAT. So....is it a credit to us that we are a highly respected team, or just pure coincidence that WE ARE MISS ST and we have bad luck?

I wasn't trying to infer that it is the RAT that beats us... but Vandy played a lights out game against us last Friday night. They ran sets, granted while getting a lot of calls their way, they couldn't miss when it mattered. We beat them in every category on the stats sheet (except 3 pt %... which they had us beat by .3%)... but still pulled out the win. Then turn around a week later and let Murray State and Richmond beat them. But usually, there is a big scorer when they beat us. I don't know which of those it is, it could be both.

Kinda goes with you saying they got every call, but they were also like 22-24 from the FT line or something similar to that stat...they always play well against us, but everyone else does too...kinda goes with us never blowing a team out. Or when we are blowing a team out, we "let" them back in the game. I think we just get every teams best shot. In most sports, but in basketball it happens FREQUENTLY. Maybe it goes back to our team taking other teams for granted....and that falls on Stans if true. Next year will be his most talented team. If we don't get to the 2nd round I say next year is an absolute failure. Not gonna say sweet 16 since he's never taken us there although it would be considered a failure by many on this board. I'll be disappointed but won't say failure, but won't disagree with those who say it is a failure.

but they were 20-22 from the FT line while we were 8-8. I didn't post this the other day, and I don't believe in conspiracy theories, but we had 8 FT's to their 22 while outscoring them BY 10 (we had 34, they had 24) POINTS in the paint. Something doesn't add up. UK last year was kind of the same. I really don't understand why these teams (and refs) give us hell year in and year out in games like this. <div>
</div><div>I think our OOC woes simply come from us not taking care of business. Slim crowds and thinking our opponents are junk usually contribute to games being much closer than they need to be. Some times, those get the best of us (San Diego, Charlotte, Ryder, etc.).

We remember the teams (and players) who have a super hot night against us, and forget the ones who don't. I've read for years how terrible we are at defending the 3 on this board, but most years we're in the top half of the SEC in 3-point percentage defense. Florida and Tennessee certainly didn't play out of their minds against us this year.

maybe relative to their talent level is that SEC refs pamper them. In the SEC if someone lays a pinky on a Vandy player it seems they get called for it and Vandy shoots a bazillion free throws. In the NCAA Vandy gets no special treatment and they have to deal with the physical play that most all other teams deal with without getting to the free throw line every offensive possession. Certainly not the whole reason but I do think for years Vandy has gotten the benefit of a very quick whistle in the SEC and they don't get that in the NCAA tournament.

Let's face it - Taylor shot 1-10 for them yesterday. If he has a bad game and goes 3-10 they win. They shot FT's poorly yeterday. They just had a bad game against a decent team.

The end of season MSU team would be 50/50 to beat anybodya 5 seed or lower in the tournament. And would have had a good shot against most of the 3 & 4 seeds.

Heck if the big white boy for KY hadn't shown up yesterday, they get beat by Princeton. He single-handidly kept them in the game with his defense, rebounding and putbacks.

I think we do match up bad to Vandy because of Jeff Taylor. Ravern has to guard him. Augustus should guard him, but then Ravern would have to guard one of their big 4s like Chiengay (I know that's not how you spell it) or that number 5 they have who seems to only play well against us. I think Stallings is like Stans in the NCAAT. He did get them to a sweet 16 once I believe and I dunno who they played, maybe they had a favorable draw. I know other than us getting to play in Little Rock, that's the biggest favor the NCAA selection committee has ever given us, but then we also had to play the #1 seed in Memphis.
