Is it just me, or do the Bears seem to be taking this Egg Bowl loss

It's because they expected to win.

Nothing like '10 or '11, where they didn't care.

I think one of the rebel sports radio guys that HD6 did a show with predicted a final score of 45-6. That's how many of them saw this game coming in. They're genuinely shocked at the outcome.

I also love how they keep saying the only reason they're upset is because how awful we are. If we played that game without our 3rd string QB, we would have blown them out. What does it say about how good they are?

The reason is simple. This win for them would have put them on a possible three year run (like ours). They could not afford to lose this game. They did. Now we are on a possible three year run. Next year they will be under incredible pressure to win in Oxford..cause they ain't beating Dak his senior year in our new stadium with a brand new QB starting his first egg bowl.

I don't

think they're pissed as much as they're in shock. It goes back to the program pumping out tons and tons and tons of propaganda over the years. Their fans believed it. They ate the ******** up. Now, they lose to "lowly ol ms state redneck lil brother!!1" and it makes them fearful of the fact they were "possibly" fed ******** lies. It scares them. House built of cards.

Have to agree with several of you that it is because their expectations were so high this year. They really thought they were about to just dominate this series and legitimately compete with the Bamas, LSUs, Auburns, South Carolinas, etc. at the top level of the SEC. The fall back to earth has been pretty tough on them.

From what I've read y'all are taking more from it than we are. You seem to be more excited to have won it than most fans are that we lost. Of course there are idiots on both sides who have gone way over the line each way.

I say screw them, they've been running their mouths about his holiness for 2 years now and swallowed his bs hook line and sinker. They deserve everything they get which in this case is not beating us or EVER making it to the SEC championship game or being this elite program they envisioned when they hired him. Oh and if PDREB or Rebel23 read this then BWAHAHAHA.

Might be because it got that magic sixth win. It really sucks to lose this game but its wee bit easier to take if you've had a good season and have already secured a bowl bid.

I remember a lot of bear fans losing their **** last year when y'all won.

I agree they wanted this win bad... The reason's 1) Bragging rights for a year, 2) Momentum from last year in to next year, 3) Impact on recruits ( and the budget, don't have to pay as much), and 4) More or increased pressure on the MSU fan base to change coaches, who I might add has a nasty habit of whipping their ***.

Agree. That's a lot of the reason for the MSU excitement, just like it was for UM last year. The difference between 5 wins and 6 wins is HUGE. And finishing with a worse record than your rival is a lot easier to take if you beat them.

My excitement comes from the fact that we gave an all out effort for four quarters and we have a true on-the-field leader for the first time in years. The fact that you guys got your asses physically whipped for four quarters and don`t have good on the field leadership is your problem. Recruiting stars never have and never will = leadership and mental toughness. Our downside is Mullen couldn`t motivate this team to play like they did in the Eggbowl before now...perhaps Dak can do that for him from here forward.

I think it also comes down to the fact that Freeze shut us up and Mullen up for a year. They have PTSD from the previous three years. Knowing the **** stirring will be back in full force and that crooting will have a slight negative for them is traumatic.

Simple. It's the return on investment. They took risks and invested a lot of time and money for last years class. After signing day they ran the propaganda machine nonstop. Now reality has set in that they are not what they thought they were. There are scratches in the Freezus armor. Control looks to be an issue with Kimdashian pushing coaches on the sideline.

And when they go back to the "class" argument, then they get Marshall Henderson thrown in their face to immediately negate them of all smack. One victory in five years is making them come unhinged.

They were convinced they had pulled way ahead of us. However, if anyone had actually looked at the SEC only stats prior to the game, the objective numbers said that the two teams were pretty damn close...

It all has to do with the UM mindset towards us and other teams. They view Bama, LSU, and the like as their equals and us as inferior. The State mentality, on the other hand, is that we view all other teams as opponents, with some opponents being more important than others.

It's sad that the Egg Bowl will never approach the rivalry level the Iron Bowl has. And I think UM fans are perfectly fine with that.

It's always tough to lose to your in-state rival

Especially when you think you are so vastly superior. Truth of the matter is that Ole Miss wasn't nearly as good as they thought they were, and the Bulldogs weren't as bad as they looked for much of the season. State's defense really got it going the last three games of the year. The offense...not so much due to injuries and boneheaded decisions concerning who got to carry the football. But to show just how over rated Ole Miss was, imagine the final score had Dak Prescott been able to play the entire game. A little air has been let out of the big red hype machine's balloon. Never fear though, they will proclaim another crootin' victory in February. Meanwhile, with a coaching change or two, it is the Bulldogs who have the most potential upside in 2014. Bragging rights belong to the Dogs for the next 12 months. It is once again "Our State".

a lot harder than usual?

You Ole Miss fans were LIED to. Bjork might as well have said, "If you like your plan, you can keep it." Instead of rational self-examination of what Ole Miss should be and knowing their place, the mental balance of Rebel-nation has become unhinged.

What Ole Miss needs to do is lower their expectations to where they oughta be, which is to ask for admittance to the Sun Belt....or even better the Gulf South Conference, where you can have your traditional rivalry game with Delta State.

It's possible that they're realizing that the bloom is off the rose...Freeze is just an ordinary coach with a gimmicky offense that doesn't seem so daunting anymore. In time, the bump they got from the Oher movie will level out and they'll be just another wanna be.

**i needed it for my preseason prediction to be accurate, so I was happy

I can't speak for anyone else but no, it's not worse than a blowout at the end of a 2-10 season. I'm upset at stupid coaching moves, and some player mistakes, but this was the epitome of a rivalry game. Throw the records out the window, anything can happen. We've all seen it many times.

see also: UNC/Duke and Auburn/Bama yesterday. This is why the games are exciting. This whole weekend has been full of some pretty ugly football, but it's been exciting football.

my only goal this year was to go to a bowl. I get to do that. Of course I'd rather have crushed y'all, but overall the year met and slightly exceeded my expectations. It sucks, but no one should shocked. At any egg bowl.

If we take them again in 2014, they will be looking for a new "Savior" ******
Also the fact that Cutcliff has led Duke to their best season ever has to be in their mind too. Heehee!!!

Part of your problem is that you are ONLY spending time reading MSU message boards instead of rebel boards. Both rebs I work with will be seriously avoiding me come Monday morning, especially after the last 12 months of 'dishing out' elite Freezus landshark bear crap.

They thought they were really good after beating Texas, and it got confirmed that they were Top 10 (in their minds) when they beat LSU. So they thought they'd just roll over us like they did last year. We were in a bit of that situation last year just before the Bama game. Nothing's ever simple.

a lot harder than usual?

They were about to put us in the rearview. They "thought" they were beyond us. The next couple years we are going to be sure nuff salty, and that defense is going to be completely filthy.

I think they're just pissed because it's the death of the bubble screen. We absolutely wrote the blueprint for how to stop their crappy screen game and it was awesome! :)

I will agree with this. I was ecstatic after last year's Egg Bowl, mostly because we were going bowling after the worst season in Ole Miss history. Also it snapped the 3 game losing streak. I'm disappointed this year, mostly because I have to hear it for a year. I don't think it said much about the team other than we were horribly inconsistent. The rest of the season supports that.

This rivalry consumed them this year. Like their redneck country bumpkin fans that attended the game displayed. Pure hate and anger. I personally have never seen anything like it. My brother and I put one in his place by just explaining that we couldn't understand his redneck accent. He shut up out of embarrassment or fear after that. No rebuttal or negative remarks the rest of the game which kind of surprised me.

Anyways, afterwards as he just stood there in shell-shock, I told him that I admired his commitment to his team but that talking so much **** during the game is bound make you look like an *** hole if you lose. It probably went over his head because he remained speechless.

They had so obviously passed us by. Last year they had finally slayed and shut shut that damn loudmouth, smart *** trash talker up after three long years. The egg bowl was their holiday and now they get to see this offensive juggernaut party like its 1999 in Starkville in front of those redneck fans and love every minute of this blowout.

They had proven how good they were against LSU and State looked awful in a win against Arkansas in another year with no signature wins. Not to mention last years recruiting championship. Expectations were high but they failed to notice...

States improved defense in dominating Alabama most of the game and their own deficiencies as a team.

They are pissed mainly for two reasons. 1) they realize now that they haven't passed us by and 2) They hate losing to Dan Mullen and have given him and State's program new life when they thought for sure they had their boot on little brother's neck.

If we had been 11-0 going into the Egg Bowl, it wouldn't have bothered them nearly as much. The fact that we had such a poor record up to this game and still beat them just makes it even better. Don't get me wrong; I wish we had been 11-0 but, in some ways, this is even better - at least in regard to our northern brethren. Victory is sweet and we get to enjoy it and hold it over them for an entire year. It's going to be fun again.
