Is it possible Mullen is playing the backup QB because

he knows what I know?

Which is, we do not have a reliable backup QB.

Better find one quick because with Dak's style of play he is bound to miss a game or two.

IMO if Fitzgerald wasn't a true FR protecting a redshirt we would have already seen him get some action. Damien has looked fair to bad, and he evidently throws a difficult-to-catch ball. The receivers seem to miss or drop a lot of his passes like they did with Relf. Don't forget, Dak was a three-star prospect we fought off LSU for, while Damien was a late recruit we stole from Southern Miss.

Fitz has a much higher ceiling than Damien.

I have been disappointed with Damien but I'm not giving up on him yet. He lacks foot speed but is powerful and throws a decent ball and he doesn't make a bunch of mental mistakes. Let's be patient and maybe we will see a QB develop.

Damian's biggest problems

I've seen have all come from his footwork and his inability to work the pocket.

Why are we so impatient on this stuff? Damian has done nothing to prove that "he can't be the guy" simply because he can't find a rhythm playing every other drive. How we are using him is not only a disservice to Dak -- it's a disservice to Damian as well IMO.

Agree, his game is north and south and

He needs to embrace that much like Relf. He has similar running skills to Relf with much better passing potential. He needs to do what he can do and do it well.

said "he can't be the guy" in this thread?

Has that not been a pretty consistent theme of the past 2 weeks? Or really ever since he signed given the circumstances there? My response was an overall analysis of the situation moreso than an actual response to this thread. Damian still has less time on campus than any other Mullen QB that saw significant PT. Still has alot of time to grow and progress -- and if practice reports are to be believed -- he isn't nearly as far away as his limited snaps/drives thusfar would imply. Guess time will tell. Just hopefully not in the next 2 years.

Fitz looked great in the spring; very promising. If we were 2 years down the road right now and Damien got trotted out there as the starter over him I'd be incredibly pissed.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I certainly don't believe he can't be "the guy" but he hasn't really shown me anything yet to make me believe he IS "the guy." Considering backup QBs are often the most hyped players and a source of endless homeristic dreams, it is kind of telling that many are skeptical.
