There is no reason for Memphis to show any improvement over last season. I think they may be worse. I'm looking forward to seeing the young talent getting a chance to play late in the game.

Memphis might not beat some Mississippi junior colleges this coming season. Yep, they will suck.

I'll be watching James Carmon at left tackle for most of our offensive snaps...if he doesn't perform well here then we're in deep ****. Hopefully either/orRussel and Favre will also see a lot of 2nd half action, or we're in deep **** again.

They've never been good (they were decent for a couple of years when they had DeAngelo Williams), but now they have a coach who's even a lot worse than Sylvester Crxxm. That program is a complete disaster right now, and it's going to be a while before it gets any better for them.

going to take a complete meltdown for us to lose that one. Get the jitters out, get some reps for everybody, and get a W out of the way.... I'm not one to count my chickens before they hatch, but if we lose that game, we may not win one all year...

I knew they were bad last year, and I think they could be worse this year. This topic got me interested, so I checked their stats from last year. Here is what they did and their national ranks, out of 120.

Scoring Defense - 39.8 ppg (117th)
Total Defense - 460.7 ypg (115th)
Scoring Offense - 14.4 ppg (119th)
Total Defense - 285.0 ypg (117th)
Turnover Margin - (-)1.08 (118th)
Punt Returns - 0.5 ypr (120th)
Punt Return Defense - 15.6 ypr (119th)
Kick Returns - 18.3 ypr (117th)
Kick Return Defense - 26.3 ypr (116th)
Sacks - 1.17 spg (105th)
Sacks allowed - 3.08 (113th)

They were definitely in the discussion of worst team in all of D-1A last year. Usually when you're a bad team, you still have at least one player or area of your team that you can hang your hat on. For Memphis, they did have a punter average 42.7 yards per kick, good for 34th in the nation. That's about the only positive they had on their team last year. They may be even younger this year.

I don't even know how you do that, but that stat was on multiple sites.

If it was an aspect of football last year, Memphis sucked at it. For the life of me, I still can't figure out how MTSU lost to them, or how UTEP nearly lost to them. Outside of those two games, they weren't even within 2 touchdowns of any other team on their schedule.

As bad as you had it during the Croom era, and as bad as we had it during the Orgeron era, or as bad as either of us had it at times in the 70s and 80s, none of those seasons compare to how bad Memphis was last year. Like I said, you usually can find one area where you do something well. They had nothing.

Unless they've made some dramatic improvements, and I really doubt that, you'll get to pick how much you beat them by based on how early you call off the dogs.

West is starting to look like he must have been some sort of miracle worker.

Living in the Memphis area, I can say that there may be a grand total of 5 people that are aware that the the Tigers' season is about to start. There was some enthusiasm last year due to bringing in Porter and starting a new era, but that is gone. What used to be frustration is now complete apathy and the only thing they're worried about now is trying to scrounge up enough cash to goto the Maui Invitational this Fall.

It's really sad that they were able to grab a once in a lifetime talent like DeAngelo and keep him for 4 years while pumping up the fanbase, but then they completely squandered that momentum. Even in the worst years of MSU football, I've always felt like we were a few breaks and maybe a season or two away from turning things around. However, with the lack of support/interest in Memphis football, their lack of recruiting, and considering their current state, it's going to be a very long time before they're even decent again.

by betting against them quite a bit last year, and I don't see any reason to stop that now. Also, I think Overs were profitable in Memphis games last year.
