Is Mullen's recruiting starting slow?

I just noticed Scout and Rivals' rankings and was surprised.

Scout has UM #23 and MSU #62
Rivals has UM #17 and MSU #55

No flame intended. I want both schools to do well. However, it would seem that Mullen would have a big advantage over the rookie Freeze in his first year. Is Mullen's job safe as long as he beats UM? Your comments please.

Provided said rookie coach is slick enough, he could practically give that away in no time.

I don't know if Mullen's recruiting is slowing, but I have learned to trust him with these early offers, especially for the kids that came to camp and got evaluated in person.

I'll say this, I would guess that by mid October we will be in position to continue to rise in the ranking while OM will be clawing and scratching to hold on to what they have with potential to take a late tumble. That said I really don't care how OM is doing now and I'm fine with where we are at

State coaches them up, ole miss coaches them down. Just think what would happen if more of these guys made the right choice, and State had a premiere class to coach up? We'd be scary.

We don't have a boatload of spots to fill and haven't had big dawg camp yet. I think the staff is being more methodical than previous years.

We are in a good position with a lot of top recruits in the state. Don't judge just by total number of recruits in June. Our class has the same player grade average as OM's per 247, could be slightly higher with Kent Flowers committing. He was considered one of the top 5 OL in the state. Jake Thomas is real high on us and he's the number one OL in the state. We sit well with Deon Mix, Kailo Moore, Ashton Shumpert, Gabe Myles, Justin Cox, etc... and some of the others who will be Dandy Dozen. Now that we're having camps and lining up folks for Big Dawg Camp you'll see more commits soon.

ETA Deandre Woods another tall Wide Receiver out of Alabama with some pretty good offers.

We may have some immediate needs (always do), but otherwise,

It's not what we may need now, but what we think we will need a year or two from now.

I don't think we are currently in crisis mode as we have been in the recent past.

They have a number of players they have seen on film but want to see them at camp before making offers to several of them. Our numbers should pick up in the next couple of weeks. Monday will be a big day for several.

Mullen and crew dont throw out over 200 scholly offers and sees what sticks- they take their time and evaluate recruits thoroughly

Mullen's job is safe as long as he keeps winning 6+ games a season. State will not fire a coach that gets them to bowl games. And the Egg bowl doesnt count in that equation.

The same article bashing Freeze threw us in as well. I think we are right around that 200 mark

and Mississippi may just jump right past us up the SEC West ladder. We may have to fire Mullins

Talk about behind the curve! And it's bad cause you know that when an 18 year old commits the summer before their senior year....it's OVAH...

For what? Leading us to bowl wins? And no- I'm not talking about the Egg Bowl.

Let's see- the guy led us to our first NYD bowl win since the 40's, had a 5 win season followed up with a 9 win season and a 7 win season and has helped lead attendance spikes and stadium renovations. And you think his job might be in jeopardy because we're "not winning" the mythical recruiting war in June? What?

I'll say this- if we ever fire a coach for that or even "put him on the hotseat" for not winning the recruiting war at this point in the year- we deserve Charley Shira.

And no- I'm not worried about our recruiting at all. I trust Dan's ability to evaluate talent over Rosebeauxl.

State has had a higher average star ranking 3 out of the last 5 classes.

Yancy and other OM recruiting people have said Mullen is doing very well on the recruiting trail and has extended his reach more than he ever has. The commitments will come in
