Only regular season games count towards the suspension.

Long Answer: Hell Yes

What other legit options did we have? Our All-World Center gave up his scholly just to make room for the guy - no loss there. There's nothing to lose on this other than a few bucks from private donations and a little hair via cussing the NCAA.

If this is a dollars and cents thing for you, what is your zero cost alternative? Who, not on the team now, should have his scholarship spot for this coming up year? And if you have a list of names, why should anyone expect they would be better than Renardo Sidney (-9 games)?
