Is the Ohio State band coming to Piscataway?

I remember the drill team performing in the late 70s - excellent show!!!
they also used to perform halftime at the RAC early days IIRC... those were awesome performances. All done in silence . All you could hear was the slapping of the guns and the marching.

When the Rutgers band was a legit 225 to 250 in the mid to late 80s we did a script Rutgers - and the alma mater was part of the pre game show itself.

When I was in the band in the late 90's we marched the "RU" across the field (flipping it at one end zone) during The Bells Must Ring. And we ended with the Official seal - 1766 Q and the crown.

No offense, but I couldn't give a crap about the OSU band and would be very pissed off if they took seats away from RU fans by being here.

Interesting how there a no flag girls in that 80s version of the Rutgers band. Also interesting how Ohio State doesn't either.
"Flag girls" are the Colorguard and they also have men in the squad (they did before, during and after my time).

AND the Colorguard is there. If you can't see them - check for spinning flags. Clear as day!

I know. I'm not a fan. I wish we would abandon them and go the military style band a la OSU and dump the drum corp style.

Their seats would come out of the allotment for OSU, so no need to have angst about that.

That sounds like a good pre-game too! I like the idea of doing the seal.

Since no one else seems interested, Michigan in 1932 performed formation of the word "Ohio" in script.

Ohio State performed the first "Script Ohio" in 1936.

Not true, I posed this question earlier in this thread (what band was the first to march the script Ohio?). I know this because I was a member of the Michigan Marching Band, and anyone who was in the MMB knows that WE first performed a script Ohio at a UM OSU game many years ago, and then it became a staple in their pregame. Voila.

I don't recall what team did it but back in the day somebody's band performed halftime AT Colgate and made the script "Crest."

Apples vs. pineapples. UM's script Ohio was just a formation they went straight into and out of, as opposed to how the OSU MB actually spells out script Ohio like a giant hand writing it on the field, then the "i" gets dotted with a sousaphone. The creativity, uniqueness, tradition, and enjoyment in watching it take shape (even for non OSU fans) is not that they end up in a script Ohio, it's how they get there.

With national coverage on the ABC network, this would be the perfect time for Rutgers band to perform well, including a new, knock-out halftime show. I know TV doesn't show respect for band performances. But maybe we could sneak in a bit of coverage.

I hear it either a tribute to Chicago Earth Wind and Fire or Michael Jackson.
