Is there anyone who is a draft hopeful for tonight from State?

It's hard for me to fathom Dak, KJ Wright, Fletcher Cox, Benardrick McKinney staying at State. They could probably double their money within our own conference. If it was my own child, I'd tell them to do the same thing. You only have so many years of playing this sport - maximize your value.
We will be paying our own homegrown players well, I would think, once they become upperclass and contribute. I have no problem paying the guys that perform here.

And.....if guys are recruited to a certain system, which I advocate we do, they'll be less likely to leave. And of course concentrating on MS players, who are less likely to leave. And then go get JUCOs, FCS and D1 guys who are generally upperclassmen.

One area where I think we lose for sure......the high school guys from out-of-state. Because they definitely all will transfer back home as soon as a spot is available. I do think Dak would have stayed because 1, we'd have paid him well, and 2, he was playing for Mullen.

They may have improved a lot after I gave up on watching them, but there were several times the first half of the season where it felt like OC's were confident that they could pull out an alignment on 3rd and long that would get us tripped up.

I would agree that when I checked in in later games, they didn't look like they were giving up, which is something. Would have considered that a good sign in the past. Now with everybody auditioning for their next stop and potentially NIL money, not sure if it's as hard to keep players playing hard.
In the Arkansas game they ran play after play where we didn’t have anyone within 15 yards of the receiver. It was a total embarrassment.

this.

From what i've been told from a rather reliable source... the upper level teams have mutiple players on their rosters making 7 figures or close to that. We cant even afford to pay 1 without totally throwing our checks and balances out of wack.

And players are already being paid before they perform now.. what makes anyone think they'll wait to perform to be paid.. then once they perform at a high level... hang around for less money than they can make on the open market?... its a pipe dream.

I mean you get hired by company A for 50K, and you take the job even though you know your worth 100K b/c you need a job. You perform well, make the company money... then company A finally gives you that raise to 100K... but now other companeis see the work you've done and offer you 200K..... are you really staying?

He wasn't lazy....he just didn't feel like messing with the drama. He took athletes and developed them. And it's an idea we are going to need to get comfortable with, portal or not. Except now the athletes are going to come from not just high school and JUCO, but the FCS and G5 level too. I would not even try and get a P5 transfer unless they contact us....meaning they are hungry.
Thank you

You guys need to quit living the dream. We obviously don't have the money or we don't know how to invest our money.
It’s funny to me how since NIL started we’ve had people deny this and get mad when someone posts that we can’t keep up. It’s a simple fact. We’re in an era where you get what you pay for. And we’re not talking $40k to a linebacker or $100k to a d-end. Payrolls will grown exponentially

That was way before the NIL era and $$$ was flowing freely.
Yeah, but its not like we weren’t paying him, and there were still tons of high profile transfers at QB happening without players even having to sit even then (Masoli, Jacob Coker, Jalen Hurts, Justin Fields, etc.). Make no mistake….those guys all got paid and paid a lot.

I think Dak chose to stay because he actually wanted the development that would help him get to the NFL. It was an entirely different offense in 2015 than it was from 2012-2014. And of course, we also made it well worth his while.

I don't disagree at all, and I'll continue to laugh at those that thought that this would be good for State until my last days

That said, if we're to believe that much of this was already happening even before it became kosher with NIL, I can't help but wonder what changed so drastically for us to go from 7-8 win seasons to a league whipping boy overnight. Are we really so far behind everyone else that we can't compete with Toledo or will we see a return to the mean in a year or two?

Of course it will never happen, but I'd kill to see the financials over the last twenty years for both under and above table payments by school because while we may keep saying that this stuff has always been happening, I do think that payment amounts have absolutely exploded during the last couple years.

The biggest cause of our downfall is we downgraded at head coach. Mullen and Leach, while coaches with flaws, knew how to run a program. Maybe they would’ve hated this newer era and not been as successful long term, but they would’ve kept our floor in a better place than it is now.

We chased upside with their replacement hires and kinda disregarded our floor if things didn’t gel as quickly as we hoped, which was probably a big mistake in this era.

The supply of money for NIL is exponentially more than what was being funneled to players under the table in the old days.

Miss. State will be the #1 program represented tonight in the NFL Draft. Brand strategy folks, look it up.

We will be on the most highlight reels as each player is drafted. Further emphasizing the reality that YOU TOO can start here day 1 in an SEC program.
