Is this a do or die series for the baseball team?...

Its a big series, but its simply too early in the season for a do or die series.

MSU still has UT and Bama left on the schedule and could easily win 5 of those games. Don't get me wrong, going 1-2 this weekend would really hurt, but there is still so much baseball left to be played.

There's no reason we shouldn't go 2-1 or 3-0 this weekend.

Sweeping would be huge. It would give the guys a much needed confidence boost and who knows... We might even start a little streak .

for hosting a regional or trying to contend for the SEC Championship, it is do or die

for being in the top 10 of the SEC and making Hoover, it is not
for making a regional, it is not

I don't think it is.
We are 3-6 vs 23-6 LSU; 22-6 Ark; and 17-11 Auburn. The sec is tough there are no easy weekends, but a sweep here is probable and 2-3 is likely
Vandy is 0-7 away from home, this year.

We need to step up and play quality baseball!

At 3-6 now, it's a pivotal point in the season where we should come out of the weekend at 6-6 or 5-7 with confidence and indecent position for a healthier second half, or we fall futher behind to 3-9 or 4-8. Wins aren't easy, and we have to take advantage when we get the opportunity. We've been pissing away those opportunities so far, and that has to stop.

Losing the series is not a "die" situation by any means, but the time has come to stop this barely squeaking by garbage and start playing like the MSU teams that we all remember. No more excuses.

I think this is do or die to finish above .500 in the SEC. It would be a big blow to our regional chances, but not a killer. I think we probably need to win at least 6 out of 9 from Bama, Tennessee & Vandy to make a regional.

it would make baseball much more interesting if every series was "do or die".... imagine... at the end of the series, someone is executed. of course, we'd all have to agree on how that person is chosen...

I think do or die is a little overdramatic. But I think it's big from a confidence standpoint because we're at home- so we have an opportunity that's somewhat to our advantage for once it seems, and we're facing a team that's not in the top 10 at home for a change that's going through a lot of the same things we are as a team.

I think that Vandy is better than their record- because they overscheduled, and that's makes them somewhat dangerous.

Also, they have a freshman that is named Tyler Beede that was a first round draft pick last year- so you know he has some talent.

I also think it's big in that we've got to find some solutions with the rotation- and Cohen is changing it- and it really needs to work. We lost Sat. not because of our hitting- but because we gave up six runs in the first three innings.

When you get down to it- our SEC season is almost like two 5 week seasons with two different teams. The first five weeks- we have a really young team and a really beat up team. The last five should be a more healthy and experienced team. My hope is that we can make a run the last five weeks for the regionals. Right now- we're trying to keep our head above water and other than the SELU series, we've done that so far. This series with South Carolina looming next weekened is a chance for us to make up some ground.

For us to have any success at all, this is a must win series. Maybe not a must sweep series, but if we were to lose 2, I could see everything turning to complete **** the rest of the way. We won't finish .500 even by winning 2, but there is a chance at .500 if we sweep. And winning the division is not in the cards regardless, along with hosting. We gotta keep our heads above water and just get in a regional somewhere.

They would have probably had a chance to make a regional with a reasonable schedule. Instead they schedule 9 non-conference games against the #1, #4 and #13 teams in the country (Boyd's ISR rankings).</p>
