Launch and Helmet to Helmet contact, so yes.

One of the worst targeting calls in MSU history was on Errol Thompson vs Missouri in 2020. Errol had a perfect form tackle on the ballcarrier and the called targeting on him very early in the game.

the targeting calls I saw yesterday were horrible. They are going to ruin the game.....

I don't recall what game, but as the ball carrier and the defender came together, the defender lowered his head to avoid head to head contact, the ball carrier lowered his head as well......the crown of the ball carrier helmet hit the side of the defender helmet, and the defender was called for targeting.....and I think ejected.

It's a BS call, and the on field rulings are BS.

I would go into a tirade about MEN needed to step up with all these safe space, PU#*Y types........it's football man

there is bias with Bama and Georgia, so any 50/50 targeting call will go their way

it is the same as when SEC plays non SEC teams... that SEC team is going to get that call

same for SEC teams vs. "Super SEC" teams like Bama and Georgia

Minimizing UNNECESSARY helmet to helmet contact is great. However, many times the ball-carrier or situation doesn’t allow a defender to have a non-helmet to helmet contact.

Sometimes, the targeting call would suggest the ref expected the defender to not stand his ground and just let the ball-carrier simply plow over him.

Has a ball-carrier ever been given a targeting penalty?

Agreed. Do you think it’s because the refs/conf wants to protect their natty hopes, or do they assume These schools have elite players so their plays must be elite, clean, ans textbook? Everyone else must have low quality athletes that have to play dirty to win…

That happened in the Ole Miss game. I think it was one of the linebackers for Wash St came up to make a perfect form tackle to the midsection and the Ole Miss RB lowered his head and plowed into him. Targeting, ejected.

Maybe they should all just wear those puffy safety helmets all the time now.
Man I miss whenever the sportscasters would highlight the “hit of the day” and who didn’t tune into the opening sequence of ABC’s Wide World of Sports just so we could hear “the agony of defeat” and watch that ski jump guy totally wipe out. Sports are violent. Unless we start just playing flag football, this is what you get.

They have made the rule pretty reasonable. Dont ever lead with the crown. Thats all the Wazzu guy has to avoid. And if a guy is in mid air don’t go for the head or neck area. It’s that simple.

That was it!.....I think that was totally the wrong call b/c the UM running back just about leveled the linebacker!

and to me, that is proof positive that the rule is not working
