I have been wondering if bears are as good as they look? They seem to have handled all opponents who all rated higher than the opponents we have played.

Boise St. 42
Vandy 94
ULL 99
Average 78.3

MSU opponents:
USM 154
UAB 116
USA 111
Average 127

UAB > Vandy or ULL at this point. And USA beat ULL 30-8 last year and looks to be as good or better than ULL this year. Vandy=UMass which means they suck at the USM sucktitude level. So USM~=Vandy, USA~=ULL and Boise > UAB but not by a large margin. So their wins aren't much better than ours.

And Boise St. was in a 4th quarter 7-6 struggle with OM until the Bears hit a big play or two to make that score look much better than it was.

ULL and Boise are both better than any team MSU has played so far. Boise is 2-1 with wins over Colorado and a decent UCONN team while USM is the worst team in the country and UAB is not far behind coming off of a 2-10 season. The stats back this up as well.

Yeah, you mean like the stat that says USA beat ULL by three touchdowns last year?

Not saying USA is an impressive win or anything- but I'd bet they're AT LEAST as good, if not better than ULL. Neither team has played anyone worth a damn yet... Which is why threads like this (started by an obvious troll) are pointless right now.

They have a foreign punter???????????? Good Lord, man! What are we to do?? We can't match up with that!!!!!

I don't post here very often (I know you are disappointed) but I enjoy reading it. And this post cracked me up. I hate this "State" fan has let the cat out of the bag about our secret weapon in Oxford.. A FOREIGN punter. Good luck, guys.

Isn't Sagarin a computer rankings system? You can't use computer rankings after 3 games.....not enough data. Not even close.

Uh no. UAB would smash ULL and give Boise St. a run for their money. UAB could beat UCONN by 2 or 3 td's and likely beat Colorado. Sorry, Boise is decent and they play hard, but I can say the same for UAB. Ole Money hasn't played anyone yet, but enjoy the rankings for another 3 or 4 weeks. Don't take Memphis lightly either..

Then what would you base ull being better than USA on? Bc they only loss to la tech by 28?
I literally have no opinion on whether USA is better than ULL. Both MSU and OM have played garbage opponents to this point.

I just think it's dumb that folks want so bad to say "our garbage opponent is better than your garbage opponent" that they'll counter Saragin ratings with the results of games in a completely different season.

Also, how is ULL better than USA, at this point? Hell USA skull17'd them just 5 games ago.

That's certainly a question you could ask Sagarin. If you know of another ranking system that has UAB ranked ahead of ULL, I think that would support the argument. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of State people saying UAB and USA are better than ULL and Vandy and OM folks saying the opposite because each argument makes their team look better.

Unless you think Sagarin is part of the bear controlled media cabal, it's a neutral third party using stats to create rankings which are supposed to be non-biased. Those rankings indicated that the three teams OM has played are better than any of the teams MSU has played.

I'd say

the same thing if I were a University of Nevada at Las Vegas fan, and the question were asked to me. It has nothing to do with me being a State fan. Let me ask you, what makes ULL better than USA, at this point?

Here you go - once and for all...we have essentially played the exact same schedule. Our opponents: UAB-69, USM-90, USA-94; Your opponents: Boise-44, Vandy-101, ULL-104. Our average is 84, yours is 83. OMG, Rebel dude. OMG.

Also - Bottom line here though, it appears other folks do agree that UAB and USM are in fact tougher opponents than ULL and Vandy.

The original poster was the one that relied on prior season results, talking about how bad USM and UAB were based on the last two seasons of play.

Even ignoring that fact, unless you know a particular team has lost a bunch of players, how good they were last year will probably be as good or better an indication of how good they are this year when compared with computer rankings based on 2 or 3 games between each team, with the majority of those games buy games pitting major conference players against cupcakes.

Here's another poll - just for you Rebel Richard Simmons - that shows us that USA is basically Vandy, and UAB is essentially ULL (which I disagree with the last point, but that's not what we're here for). Aside from Boise - whom you dingle berries had fits with, and USM - whom we shutout (something Bama couldn't do), we've played the same schedule. So go on feeling good about your Number 10 ranking for this week. Maybe beating Memphis next week will get yall bumped up another laughable spot so you can all go to the square and toast a slo gin fizz before heading off to iron your short shorts and pastel alligator polos for the Church of Freezus mass the following morning.

Yes. They look like they can beat crappy teams. Just like we look like we can beat crappy teams. LSU will tell us something about us. I'm just happy to know that we are 9 points better than Bama!
