In fact, do not be surprised if they commit even fewer players early than they did last year. They feel like they have a chance to make a run for the national championship next year and they want to capatilize and wait later on to commit some players.

He's right about one thing. The staff feels like they have a chance to do even more this year than they did last year, so I could see why they may want to save room if they think they are going to have a shot at some big names down the stretch. They're going to have to be more selective this year anyway because we'll have some grayshirts from the 2009 class, and we're also going to be pushing the 85 limit after this year. I doubt we sign more than 20-22 tops.

They feel like they have a chance
use of "they" meaning its someone else's opinion;
use of "feel" not very strong;
use of "chance" not very strong.

I don't have the old rosebowl quote, but from what i remember, that statement is not even in the same ballpark.

I remember in 1974 when some Rebel fans in my neighborhood were crowing about how Ken Cooper was going to bring Ole Miss to a National Championship. I particularily remember an article in the Daily Mississippian about how Steve Sloan was "making his Sugar Bowl plans"....in 1981.

When you speak with Rebel-fan, just agree with him that they'll be National Champions this year, and they'll be happy until they pass out drunk and you can write all over his face in magic marker.

The Rebels are going to be very good. My only questions are on the DL. Jerry and Hardy are huge losses.

We have already ordered our national championship T-shirts. In fact, most of the schools we are playing are already forfeiting to us for various reasons, so we will just have intra-squad scrimages and take home the Sears Trophy as more or less a formality. </p>

Jerry will be tough to replace, though at least he's the only DL we lose. The rest of our rotation is back, and they were pretty good in their own right. As for Greg Hardy, we're going to replace him with a guy named Greg Hardy.

Regardless, Hardy had very little impact on our season as a whole last year. He sat out a lot of games early in the year with an injury, and when he returned, he was never 100%, and he was running 2nd team most of the year. If he's playing at 100% this coming fall, we'll be getting a lot more from him in 2009 than we did in 2008. He played a limited role in our defense last year due to the injury.

That said, I think our questions are on the OL, not the DL. We need to develop some depth at DB and LB, but I think the players are there to give us that depth. The only spot on the field that really concerns me is our OL. We have to find two starters and develop some depth. The rest of the team looks to be fine.

Word is...they'll be considered "no contest" as opposed to forfeits.

If the weather's bad, we don't show up. No contest.

Worked for Nichol's.

Ole Miss drops from 2nd to 3rd and fails to make the championship game.

No problem.

the rebels have the best returning QB in the SECW and anything less than a trip to Atlanta will be a failure.

even being able to claim that you were even considered for a national championship in any era is better than not ever even being considered due to lack of performance.

The West is almost always unpredictable.

Alabama returns alot of players, but their key will be the same as OM's...how will they replace a big LT and SR starters on the OL?

Alabama will be tough as nails under Saban. If they can get any semblance of an OL this year, they will be tough to beat with all those RBs and Jones on the outside.

I think OM and UA are the teams to beat.

Jordan Jefferson could make LSU competitive, but I don't see them winning it.

ARK will be improved, but still average.

State will be improved, but still average. Depending on QB play, State could easily make a bowl and finish 3rd or 4th in the West.

AU will suck.

Now that I've said all this, ARK will probably go undefeated and win the SEC over South Carolina, and UA and OM will both miss out on bowl games.

As I've said before, I agree that it should be between Alabama and Ole Miss. LSU will have a very good team, but Miles will blow a few games, and their conference schedule is significantly more difficult than ours and Bama's. Arkansas will be improved, but they have a very difficult SEC schedule as well. I don't see any way that Arkansas or LSU navigate their SEC schedule at better than 5-3, and that won't win the division.

Auburn and MSU aren't quite there yet, so to me it's us or Bama. We have similar issues like you said. We both have to rebuild the OL. We both return very good defenses. The only difference is Bama has to replace its QB as well. The game on October 10 in Oxford will go a long way toward determining who wins the West.

maybe. But obviously, much better with him.

I have no real basis for believing this aside from the hype around Stanley. I think he can be serviceable, but I really don't know.<span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;">
