Question - how does that base salary work? It is a short term deal to make it to off season workouts and see if he is a good fit? Then they throw him some more cash if he shows he can compete for a roster spot?

Given the outrageous money thrown around in the NFL i’m hoping it’s something just to get him started…

Nope. He is guaranteed $40K. Unless he makes the team (either active roster or practice squad) that's all he gets.

TBH I thought he did well to get what he did. I thought all he would get would be an invitation to a tryout camp, and then we'll see.
