Um doesn't have lsu or Florida money. Different league. And that wouldn't pull from other sports. I hope um goes all in to keep Kiffin because that will leave a bare panty which I'm sure Kiffen knows that. We can only hope he stays but lose his nil $ in doing so
So Kiffen knows about the bare panty? That seems about right.

Yeah, I can't see firing Lebby now. Give him another year. It's lot less expensive that way. Unless we can pick up an experienced coach from a smaller school but one that has proven experience and ones the bigger schools like LSU, Florida, and Penn State would overlook.
Yep! Thank goodness Football is a minor sport at MSU. Glad we don’t take it seriously. Hopefully in a few years when we are stilll hiring assistant coaches to be our head coach and the SEC and Big 10 are drawing teams for the Super Conferenice they will be wise enough to kick out lowly losing *** out since we love to go cheap and average 2 SEC wins per decade!

What business is it of Landry's anyway? Tater better not have anything to do with our hiring process..............
Oh come one, he might hire Farve.
UM is currently paying more than Florida & about in par with LSU and their NIL doesn’t seem to be suffering. They’ll pay. And have money left over for NIL. And if they make the playoffs that’s just that much more money generated. What they understand that we don’t is money invested isn’t an expense. It’s a revenue generator.
i bet they just have more money than State.

Considering the massive buyouts of a few high profile coaches and the incredible costs of universities and university systems, should governors and legislatures express some reservations about the costs of athletic programs and massive salaries given to coaches? State taxpayer money funds universities to a considerable degree. Or should state officials stay out of it and keep their opinions to themselves?

The problem is this…. Yes it’s fair to have some reservations. But if you’re the only one saying no to these big contracts, the coaches are just going to go somewhere else to get their money and you’re left with a more fiscally responsible but likely less good football program.

If you want to hire someone like Kiffin or Drinkwitz or any sitting P4 head coach with a good track record, you’re gonna have up pony the funds big time or else you’re not hiring those kinds of coaches. These coaches aren’t going to volunteer to come to your school at a discount. They’ll just stay where they are if it comes to that.

Exactly. Just like when one of the Alabama board of trustees members said when asked about Nick Sabans outrageous contract a few years after he was hired, “Nick Saban is the best financial investment the University of Alabama has ever made.”
No doubt, but it’s still wild to me. Kiffin, in all likelihood, is about to become the highest paid coach in college football, and while Saban won 6 national titles at Bama, Kiffin has barely beaten that many ranked teams in 6 years.

I saw a breakdown years ago of where the money for the coaches salary was coming from, Mullen I think, and only about $275,000 was coming from the state and the remainder was booster and privately raised money.

Kiffin is 10-10 vs ranked teams at Mississippi. Thats not bad at all.

That’s at least partly because sure they invest in football. We’re like the last person Jesus gave the talents to. Instead of investing what he gave & doubling it like the first 2, he buried it in the ground. And when we do invest we don’t do it wisely. For example, we may have 20% of our NIL budget tied up in 2 backup QB who don’t play. We should have signed one or the other but not both. If KT is as frustrated as his dad apparently is, whatever we spent on him was a complete waste. Should have spent that on a quality OL & DL.

I know its all just estimates, but LSU's collective is estimated to have over $20MM annually to spend, UF about $15MM, and UM close to $10 MM. That's for all sports, not just football, but it sounds like a pretty big difference.

Yes but look who they hired. Florida hired an up and coming coach. Um hired someone with much more experience. I know that you're not saying um is in the same tier with Florida when it comes to money.

Brian Kelly was an absolute culture clash. Urban would be a perfect fit. You see dat Uhban Meyer grindin on dat guhl on dat bahstool. He da best.
Kelly did not care about much after landing that monster mega contract. He reached the high stakes poker tables, won a mega jackpot lottery, and was just sort of acting and playing the roll after that.

Yuup, we probably have $3-4mil tied up in a mediocre starting QB and two backups who don't see the field much. OM finds and All American QB on the scrap heap and is probably paying him the league minimum. By signing Chrome-in-hawk, who had a bad true freshman season, that likely cost us 2-3 OL/DL. Libby has to find some folks who can evaluate the portal and make decisions on sensible contracts, it appears Kiffin has mastered that.

Honestly I think we should have signed him & passed on Taylor. He can at least play next year.

Either one, but certainly not both.

I can see KT because he's a home town kid and may influence other in state recruits.

We need to give both a few more snaps in regular game play (not just short yardage situations) to see what we have for next year.

IF we lose to Ark, we need to bench Shapen and let them play it out for the QB1 position for next year.

Landry comes off seriously unhinged every time he speaks.
I heard him in an interview today with Matt Moscona on 104.9 ESPN Baton Rouge.
I was struggling to understand what he was saying. That coonass accent runs deep with Landry. I think I even voted for him. I wish I could get my vote back.

I stopped giving Moscona airtime when that toolbag celebrated the retirement of Jack Cristil because Jack was rude to him once.

Haha. He said ole miss wasn't a great job before Kiffin made it one.
Good thing that he didn't go further and remind everyone they had never been to a sec champ game.
I would sign up for the guy that keeps having 10 win seasons at a Mississippi SEC school. Some of you people can’t see the forest for the red and blue trees.

He can’t help himself. He swore that Alabama was about to fall off the face of the earth when Saban retired. He was even cheering. 2 years later, who is about to fall off now? 😂

Oh no! Did someone use exaggeration to make a joke? About Trump? I better hit them with some facts because I don't understand humor.
I even added sarcastrix because I know about the humor/sarcasm blind spot so often caused by TDS. I'll bold them next time for the chronic sufferers and hope that helps.

Before you get too distracted down there in Lane's jockeys, please go back and tell us again why Brian Kelly is so awesome. I've been waiting for you to weigh in.
