It Doesn't Do RU Any Good To Be On National TV

and get blown out by a very good team. It doesn't help recruiting and overall perception (not that I care that much about perception). I hope the guys can keep this respectable. It's going to be difficult, especially with the injuries...i'm not sure Carroo will play any significant role in the game. Also, the injuries in the secondary. I know OSU has injuries also, but they have a lot more players ready to go. I hope the team plays well tomorrow night.

its an opportunity. We need a good game. Many people will be seeing RU on the big stage for the first time. It could spur interest. We have a great atmosphere when the place is rocking.

I agree. Let's drop down to the Patriot League and turn the stadium into a shopping mall.

The long term rewards outweigh the short term risks. Would you rather us play nobody in a minor league televised on a station nobody has reception for so we could hide out without anybody noticing because you're afraid of getting blown out of 1 game against the best program in the nation? Is that what you really want for this program and school? If yes, there's plenty of schools that play less competitive football to root for and enjoy.

I think we should just forfeit right now, better yet let's just shutdown the entire university.

OP is waaaayyy wrong. Would you rather be in the AAC playing Memohis in a no win situation? We're in our second year in the conference and playing #1 at home in prime time. A cant lose situation vs a can't win situation. Big deference. Enjoy the game.

Well, at least it's better to get blown out on national tv by the #1 ranked defending national Champs than it is to get blown out on espn3 by an aac team like we used to.

Guy who doesn't care about perception creates a thread about looking bad and how it hurts perception. Sounds about right for this place.

OSU may be #1 in the Polls but RU is a shoe in to capture the Defeatist Fanbase championship once again

With apologies to anyone named Nancy, we have some of the biggest NancyBoys it's ever been my bad luck to run across.

Ohhhhh, I'm a long suffering fan.....Horsehockey!

It will look great if RU upsets OSU on national TV, don't expect a RU WIN but Upsets Happen.
Ru2bnj and other RU fans can plan for a loss and share his sky is falling because the Scarlet Knights are on national TV facing the Buckeyes and be all doom and gloom about all the bad things that can happen.

I'll let Ru2bnj and others feel that way, but I'll just think maybe just maybe, if the stars are aligned just right, the football gods look down on Rutgers with a friendly smile , the RU fans at the game inspire the players to play a great game, Flood channels Lombardi and McDaniels offensive play-calling is one of the best ever see by RU fans and the Ohio St coaching staff , Rossi comes up with a defensive strategy destroys the Buckeye's O along my hope for an upset comes true we'll see an RU win instead of the blowout loss some feel is inevitable
Until the game starts, I'll be thinking ( not expecting) upset and looking forward to seeing it.

Was the USA saying lets go home before they took the ice against the Soviets in 1980? Same sort of gap then as it will be tonight, and look how that turned out! "Do you believe in miracles"

This.
Better than getting blown out by Houston, Cincinnati , etc. on ESPN 2 like we experienced just a couple of years ago. We have the chance to get respect tonight by playing OSU close.

We just missed beating the then #4 program and followed it up with a hair-raising come back to knock off Indy. Although neither game was a true national event, do you think these games hurt our image?
Playing the #1 team is always dicey. Most people, including here, don't expect us to win, but just being on the national stage with a sold out stadium will be watched by a ton of eyes. If we can even keep this game close, it is a "win".
As a fan for over half a century, I can remember trying to get games on the radio. I cannot understand how anyone thinks this game is a bad idea.

For years I have been hearing how we don't play elite competition. Well tonight we are playing he best of the best, so I will just toast the RU Team to play their best and my fellow RU fans to cheer our team no matter what. Jerseya gave the best example, by everyone's expectations the 1980 Olympic Hockey was going to be nothing but a soviet victory, until the young U.S. Team snatched victory from the jaws of defeat! This could be RU's moment to shine. Flood should give a speech similar to this one.

It's better to play on ABC and get blown out but show your awesome atmosphere than be Houston and literally no one knows what a game at your place is like and no one cares. If you're afraid of being in the spot light, just go be a fan of UCONN, where you can lose embarrassingly in front of no one.

Clearly, the OP's father did not send him to old Rutgers to be a MAN. Sounds like he went to the University of Hans and Franz to be a girlie man.

Ive always said a football game is a 2 hour+ ad for your school. In todays game, even keeping it close is a plus! Most of the B10 people I know in Fla are excited Rutgers is part of the family...in fact the OSU people have been the friendliest!

The original post here is loser talk man. We all would have given our left nut to have an opportunity like this 5 years ago. It's here man, effing make the most of it. You look at the down side of getting blown out, I look at the upside of RU ruining OSU's season and the resulting jolt of program enthusiasm.
