that Larry Templeton was a relic. Byrne knows how to run a modern athletic department. This was obvious with the pageantry, planning and events of today's basketball game.

Old relics in control never realize when their time is past. And usually they simply become consumed with maintaining control and placing people around them to help keep power. Other great examples include/included Al Davis, Frank Broyles, Bobby Lowder, Bobby Bowden, etc. And inertia certainly contributes to the problem. That's why I think we owe the General a debt of gratitude. Obviously, no other president in the last 30 years would have canned LT. It was a masterful move that went against the grain and certainly ruffled the feathers of all LT cronies. Who knows, that move may ultimately have been part of the reason Foglesong left. Now we have a progressive AD and we appear to be in great shape with our coaches in football, basketball, and baseball for the first time in my lifetime. Much reason for cheer.

....that group is more interested in protecting it's clutch on power than they are with making things better for everyone.

Personally, I would like to see a total disbanding of that organization and have it reconstituted in a new format.

I'm not saying the NCAA hasn't done anything good. However, over the last 10 years (or so) you can see decisions being made for political reasons not practical ones. The way issues are "managed" indicate to me that they like things just the way they are.

Sorry, I'll get of the soap box now....but I do despise those 17'ers!

Yeah, because actively recruiting students in a way that led to record enrollment numbers didn't mean ****.
