It really sucks Woodruff can't get it together.

This is 17ing mind boggling. He has put us in a HUGE hole in the first damn inning.

I feel for him. 2 straight starts against SWAC teams, and he didn't even make it out of the 1st both times.

That injury this summer/fall either really 17'd his arm or mind up. Maybe both.

Interesting watching that he had reasonably good control of his breaking ball but the fast ball was all over the place.

I think he is trying to do too much too soon and it has messed him up. I think Cohen made a HUGE mistake by not starting Slauter tonight. Woodruff's one good outing this year was with Slauter behind the plate. Slauter handles pitchers better than Ammirati, and at this point, I think Slauter paired up with Woodruff is our last shot at turning him around. It's not looking good, which sucks because Woodruff is the difference between us being a top flight pitching staff and being above average. Not having him means we start Evan Mitchell every week, and that's not good.

At this point, we need to shut down Woodruff and then move our rotation around so that we aren't pitching Evan against the other team's aces.

The guy Woodruff hit has WAYYYY more of a case to complain than Katz. He ran that one out good, you know that hurt.

4-0 after a protracted top of 1st

Did Cohen take Woodruff out? I suppose this could make Alcorn over-confident .... Lots of times early scoring does that.

His point is that we really need Woodruff to be himself to have an Omaha-worthy staff..... and Woody needs some confidence right now, and it's worth playing Slauter for that because Woody has that much potential.

BUT- I also think after last year Slauter needs the breaks, so I'm not sure what I'd want. I guess in a perfect world I would go back in time and, uh, not play Mitch Slauter every game. Still don't see how anyone reasoned that was a good idea.

If we match up Evan with

Ryan Staneck of Arkansas, Grundy from Kentucky, it's a mismatch that is not in our favor. We're much better off matching up with Lindgren or Graveman and matching Evan up against the worst starter for SEC teams. See Eades vs. Evan Mitchell this weekend. We're going to struggle to score against the elite aces of the SEC- a wild pitcher like Evan that we are hoping to get four innings out of is going to give up some runs. We can't afford to get down 2-0 against the aces of the SEC every time we face one.

I will say that if he's saving Slauter for the weekend, I'm fine with it.

We should play Slauter three out of the four games a week behind the plate. That should be plenty of rest. Right now, we are essentially platooning Slauter and Ammirati. What we are doing would be like the Cardinals platooning Yadier Molina and Gerald Laird- and makes as much sense.

We NEED Woodruff if we are going to host a regional. And we can possibly get him back and still give Slauter some rest. I would say we need Woodruff more than we need to rest Slauter.

I am not sure he deserves another start. I think he needs to pitch in some relief situations to hopefully regain some confidence. Getting your tits ripped by SWAC teams does not make you an SEC caliber starting pitcher.
