It will be interesting to see how Selmon handles...

The schedule has its most winnable games at beginning and end. Middle is a tough stretch. He absolutely cannot start 1-3 because there’s a good chance we’ll have an 0-5 / 1-4 stretch to follow that. He’d be a dead man walking at that point. Selmon would have no choice but to fire him

In today's environment, he'll need to be fired by late October in order have the new HC hired and ready for the portal season.

Lebby next season. If we start off bad - will Selmon fire a friend?
So y'all think in the 13 months they were both together at OU, the fund-raising Assoc AD and the football OC became friends? I can see Lebby being friends with coaches he worked with on a daily basis at OM and OU, but this whole narrative about Selmon hiring him because they were buddies is just plain stupid.

Do we know that they are really friends? How long were they at OU together?
December 2021 (Lebby is hired at OU) to January 2023 (Selmon is hired by State). It's ******** narrative by people who don't know how athletic departments work. The OU athletic department has hundreds of employees, but y'all think these two were hanging out all the time.

I don't think friends is the right word. But Selmon definitely made a lazy hire of someone he was familiar with. Cause Lebby's resume dang sure didn't get him the job.

My fear is that we are going to ride with him for 2-3 more years. Not because of friendship, but because It looks to me that Selmon decided to invest all in to baseball where we can have immediate and sustained success, and will let football "coast" until we have war chest big enough to go buy who we need to.

My assumption is that Selmon looked at what we have in NIL and what we could win at in the big 3, and went that direction. If our NIL is where I think it is, we are not going to be able to compete with the top teams in football, but have more than enough to compete (coach, hosting, CWS, Natty) in baseball. He had to win at something (Let's win something today campaign for you old dogs), and may have viewed football as a square peg/round hole scenario.

I may be entirely wrong on this (hope so), but this is just how it appears to me.

That's a recipe for a one-way ticket out of the SEC.

Big 3? There is the Big 1, and its sidekick men's basketball. The rest are non-revenue sports.

I don't agree with everything that Selmon does, but I also don't think he's an idiot, and he sees the same **** sandwich that we've all been seeing for two years. He's just closer to it, and he knows that he's equally as accountable for this program as the coach himself.

Not only do I think that Selmon will fire him, but I'd wager that he's already come to terms with the fact that he'll be doing it next season.

If we are 4-6 after Auburn, at that point you just as well stick it out. Tell his wife to drive to Oxford so she can give him a ride home.

You are exactly right. And that is why Zac Selmon is a forward thinking AD. He knows and sees the bigger picture. He gave y’all the high octane, big play explosive offense you and other posters on here were begging for. But that style takes more time because it requires more depth on both sides of the ball. And not just depth but quality depth. Be patient. At least you got what you asked for offensively so far.

This board is assuming we don’t improve. We made that assumption last offseason. We improved by 3 wins. I’m not sure how we can make any guesses before we see how the portal goes. We may be bad next year but I’d wager there’s just as good a chance we surprise and win 7.

But if you read the rest of my post, and if it is even half way accurate, it would only prove that he is not a forward thinking AD.

Why don’t you and all the other expert posters on here pick one and admit it. Just man up and pick one:

1. You got exactly what you asked for, and the growing pains of defense fatigue, depth issues are part of the deal you never thought through.

OR

2. You didn’t actually understand what extreme tempo explosive football requires and now regret asking for it.

That bye on 10/03 between the Alabama & LSU games just screams @ me unless we are at least 3-2.
If we are 3-2 then we are probably in the midst of losing at least five straight, maybe up to seven straight. Lebby REALLY needs to start 4-0 if he wants to keep his job in 2027. That being said, I can still see a scenario where we go from 3-1 to 3-5 but he still manages to beat Vandy, Auburn and Tenn Tech, especially since they are all at home. Even with a loss to Ole Miss, finishing 6-6 would likely get him another couple of years.
