If we end up with 40 wins (with our schedule), and we don't host. Just a huge damn load of ********.

I have to agree

Swap Vandy off our schedule with a team like Georgia or Tennessee and we are sitting at 41-42 wins overall, 17 conference wins, and two games left to play. Our schedule has been brutal, especially early on. I understand we blew some opportunities against some good teams, but that was way early in conference play. I think if we played Arkansas and Kentucky right now we take 2 of 3 from both. Week in week out, we are the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference behind Vandy, LSU, and maybe South Carolina. We should have taken 2 from LSU and Vandy is just a damn good team that waxed us.

Arkansas can't handle the Tennessee's and Auburn's like they should. I think they are completely out of the picture, so is OM (unless they win the next 2). It is between us and USCe, and I think we need to win 1 more to be in good shape. Also, Arkansas' RPI is about 15 points under AUBURN'S right now... if that tells you anything. Arkansas is dead last in the west in RPI, according to Warren Nolan.

The thing about an easy schedule is you better win games to keep your RPI up.

So, how much does the SECT play into the equation? When do they make the 'hosting' decisions? Do teams still 'bid' a figure to host?

It counts. But if we win 1 more this weekend, we should be safe. Teams do still "bid' to host regionals, but as long as the facilities meet the minimum requirements, the hosts are awarded entirely based on merit on the field. Money is not a factor and hasn't been since they expanded the field to 64 back in 1999/2000.

I think we stilll need to win another against South Carolina...

..unless we were to make a run in the SEC Tourney (2-3 wins). Going 1-2 vs USC and then 1-1 in the SECT will get us to 40 wins, but may not be enough.

Well..... remember back in 2007 when we hosted that Super Regional? Clemson had a better season and we still got to host. It seems like I remember the committee (LT) choosing us because of the crowds we bring.

Win one more against SC and I think we host regardless of our performance in the SECT. Jim Ellis mentioned last night that this is the first time SC has lost a game when leading going into the 8th inning. They were 34 and 0 before last night. With that and the rough up we gave their closer last night maybe we have them a little "shocked". I guess we will find out tonight if the weather allows.

No, Clemson didn't have a better season in 2007. We were both #2 regional seeds and we finished with a #17 RPI to Clemson's #18. They could have flipped a coin based on merit. But you're really comparing apples to oranges anyway. That wasn't a regional, it was a super regional. And we absolutely would not have hosted if Clemson hadn't upset Coastal Carolina in their regional. We would have been on the road to Carolina.

That is no doubt true. Here are the numbers....

USC and MSU had 6 common opponents. The records were: MSU 8-10 and USC 8-9. Can't get much closer than that. The difference is easy to see. We each had 3 unique opponents. Their combined SEC records were: MSU-um,bama,aub 39-44(.470) USC-ut,uga,miz 21-55(.276) The two teams individual records vs unique opponents were: MSU 6-3(.667) USC 8-1 (.889). Even among common opponents USC benefited by 1/2 game from a rain cancellation against the vandy buzz saw. That is why whomever wins this series should get the benefit of the doubt in hosting.

If any of you remember, last night was a mirror image of what happen to us in Columbia last year.

We go into the 8th with a three-run lead, we pull Stratton after a lead-off home run, and then Reed blew it. Eerily similar situations.

Hopefully that means we are destined for a sweep.

For those who care, Aaron Fitt of BA says that we are one win away from clinching a host spot. This comes after he dogged us all week. I don't really get why no one nationally expects us to win this series. SC is nowhere near where they've been the last three years, we are equal to or better than them, and it's a home series for us.

I think the national media puts so much stock in USCe, is that they won it all in 2010, 2011, and played in the finale game last year. New year, dudes.
