.....for me to realize we (MSU) baseball cannot even make the Top 25. A program of our tradition, facilities, and unrivaled fan support should ALWAYS be in the top 25, if not the top 15. And I haven't seen any evidence this year, that we should be. I started school at MSU when Ron Polk began his first year. Ron was the one who began others to start caring about college baseball. Then Skip Bertman did at LSU what I always thought we should have done. I'm starting to believe that Ole Miss has a better chance of winning a 2nd title before we do. But you're correct. A few years ago I did the research and were were a top 15-20 program historically, if you look at most factors. After the title, I'd say are solidly in the top 15.

One thing to remember though - both LSU and Tennessee have some advantages we don't.....lottery, location, known as a big money school. Both took off once they attracted a real coach. Our advantage is our fan support, but in the modern day landscape, we still have some recruiting disadvantages. We hardly ever sign the true 5* level studs unless they are from MS or have some tie to us or a little baggage. NIL has helped us a little bit here, but Lemonis isn't taking advantage. He recruits metrics.....that's why it appears on paper that we are recruiting well, but we really aren't.

We need a change in philosophy, even if that's not a big name coach. We need to get back to Cohen-type recruiting and culture.

leeinator don’t you know that we are not supposed to wish for anything positive to happen good for our baseball program. I totally agree with you. It is a disgrace to let our one program that is recognized everywhere in this country as one of the premier programs to allow it become less than a perineal top 10.

It does not take long to realize that the straw that stirs the drink in college baseball is the head coach. We followed up a NC with two last place finishes in the SEC. That CANNOT happen and the guy in charge, no matter what happened previously, should have been shown the door, Period.

I am torn between firing the coach and letting Selmon replace him or just keep him until Selmon leaves, and we have a good AD to replace him. I think our AD and his coaches are taking us to the woodshed and getting rich doing it.
Sounds like damned if you do, damned if you don't. I definitely don't trust Selmon, but I also don't trust the powers that be to find anyone better than Selmon either.

(MSU) baseball cannot even make the Top 25
We finished last season ranked and are currently ranked in several polls this year:
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/college-baseball-top-25-rankings/
https://www.sportswriters.net/ncbwa/news/2025/03/10/tennessee-16-0-tops-ncbwa-division-i-poll

We are 15 games into a 55 game season in which we have replaced our entire starting rotation from last year and our 4 loses by a total of 7 points. Some of yall need to chill out with the doom and gloom. This team is going to be just fine.

Seems like we have been doing that three of the last four seasons since the National Championship run. The fourth season wasn't the best. We did get to a regional, but we sucked *** in it. If he doesn't turn it around no way we should stand for only making the NCAA tournament one time out of every four seasons. I am not going to take up for him. I am not going to chill. It's unacceptable.

Any NIL money or extra money giving to baseball is wasted money. ALL should be given to football. A really good argument might could be made for a little to go to men’s basketball. Maybe.
75% to football, 15% to men's basketball and the rest split between the other sports. They are the only two sports that matters at the end of the day when it comes to ROI and building recognition nationally.

We talk about this all the time. State has completely mismanaged the only historically successful sport it has ever had. Investing in the best college stadium was the right thing to do. The lack of putting everything into getting the absolute best players and fielding semi-pro teams was the wrong thing to do. All other sports should be behind the effort put into baseball if we want to have any chance of being successful in a sport. Players will come to Starkville to play in front of the largest crowds in college. But not if they have no chance in winning. People argue that football has higher revenue, but who gives a **** when you lose all the time. Field a winning team in something. The only reachable possibility is baseball.

I wonder if Cann would have had some self control where we'd be now. Probably toe to toe with Tennessee.

That's fine at most schools, but I can remember a time not too long ago when the rankings were released and we were always in the top five.

A 5-7 year in '23, 2-10 in '24, and staring down another similar one in '25 sounds like "wasted money" to me
Of course it is when when we’re not committing 95-100% of ALL NIL. This is the only sport that financially matters and the only one that brings value upon return on investment. Men’s basketball just a little. Nothing else.

This is what runs through my head every time someone says "kill baseball, focus on football". We are NEVER going to compete for a NC in football. Call me a pessimist if you want, but it ain't happening. I don't want to focus 100% of attention and money on a sport where maybe once every 20 years our ceiling is a shot at a Sugar Bowl.

We can compete for Omaha way more. Facilities, fan support, etc. is all there. I'm fine with being known as a baseball school. Duke and Kentucky are basketball schools. Oregon State is a baseball school. We should be a baseball school. There was a time when we were considered one, but the longer we languish post-championship, the further we slip from being one.

** I'm not saying give up on football. But you can only polish a turd so much - it's still a turd and it isn't ever gonna be mistaken for a diamond.

It's taken awhile for me to face reality....but with NIL and xfer portal, I'm there. We need football to do well enough to make money and fund the athletic dept but we aren't competing for anything important other than once in a blue moon. I'd like to be nationally relevant in MBKB or baseball, or both. Baseball has the easiest path. And baseball, in general, is my 3rd favorite sport behind football and basketball.
