It's all SixPack's fault......another de-commitment story....

Was told tonight that the reason Joe Price de-committed is that he read on some "blog"(im sure here) that some MSU fans were saying he was not good enough to play D1 ball and it hurt his feelings. He told Coach Hall about it and he tried explaining to Joe that it was just a bunch of idiots that knew nothing and that State would not have offered him if they thought he could not play there. But Joe was too immature to look beyond what a few people were saying and accept a DREAM offer to play in the SEC (for most kids at least) and now he is gonna be starring at the University of Memphrica......FWIW. <div>
</div><div>Just another reason to be careful what you write and say about people...because these days EVERYBODY can see it.</div><div>
</div><div>Now granted I also questioned his ability to compete at this level too, but....its still dumb of him to give up that opportunity to play SEC ball because a select few people were bashing him. Instead he should have taken it as a challenge and come in a prove himself worthy.</div>

he said that Price should see the writing on the wall. Or maybe it was Swindoll saying it after the fact and price got upset.

I'd rather have the pussies jump ship now as pollute a lockerroom like another sport I know. This younger generation has gone to the dogs

He'll actually get on the field for Memphis. I would like to have signed him, just to see what he could do for us with all that speed, but as the other poster wrote, I would much rather have Milton.

What's up with us making bad news on the internet lately? The other day I saw on YAHOO the story about CJ Johnson switching to TSUN because of people on Facebook, today there are stories making ESPN about the basketball team and the Twitter incident, and now this. I can't help but feel like the media tries to make us look bad in any way and every time it has a chance. We've been getting a lot of bad publicity lately.

at what point in time does something go from discussion to "offensive"? I had heard from Ole Miss fans WAY before he de-committed that the only reason that he had an offer from us was because he was a "package deal" to get Tobias. Personally, that would offend me if I was Joe, and then he again he didn't sign with Ole Miss either.

There are also a lot of players that see that someone says that they aren't any good, and it actually motivates them to prove everyone wrong. Everyone is different.

My opinion is, you can't stop people from discussing football, and not everyone is going to be able to say all nice things about a player. Sometimes someone will type something that they don't mean to be taken offensively and it comes out that way depending on how you read it on the computer.

This was something that was obviously used against us a lot this year, and I hope that Dan and the other coaches use it against othes in the future because you can't stop people from typing theurir thoughts as long as this is America.

I think we would have honored it if Tobias would have signed at MSU, and you would of never heard this cry baby **** or complaining. I noticed that Ole Miss did not save him a spot. That's what he should be crying about. Then CJ wants to cry about fans hounding him on the Internet. All I can say is, keep your word and don't sell your integrity and **** like this will not happen to you. In the end, these kids bitching about what people say on the Internet need to man up and grow a sack and realize that most of this is their fault.

The best player on our team shuts down if you crawl him hard at all. Reminds me of Petey from Remember the Titans. Kids no longer want to prove what they can do, or dare you to boubt them. They continually have to have smoke blown up their *** to make them feel better. Total positive encouragment all the time.

I'm old school. You doubt me and I'm going to knock your dick in the dirt, but have learned that I am going to have to change to be successful with today's kids. I think this is true with anyone who grew up in the competitive older generation, ie. Mullen. Now, if Mullen can field a team of old school type kids the will beat the **** out of a team of the new generation kids, see egg bowl.

The irony in it all is that Gene's Page has historically led the charge of "recruits read these boards, watch what you post", and Gene/Steve ran off a kid by a post one of them made.

That said, the real story on Price is that we bought him an Audi to get him to decommit from MSU and go to Memphis.

Calling the Clarion Ledger to anounce to a Beat Writer that you are decommiting was in my view extremely disrespectful and intentional. I got the impression that he was either being lead to believe he was more sought after than he was or he was getting very bad advice. Either way in my book he got what he deserved, I hope he enjoys playing in front of 20 people at Tiger High. What's especially enjoyable to me is that he'll get to watch MSU come into the Liberty Bowl fill it up with maroon clad fans (which will be their biggest crowd all year) and whip Memphis.

Did Ole Miss even offer him a Greyshirt?

the coaching staff wanted to be sure the message got to Price loud and clear.

..seriously I'm around the same age as the Sixpack and when I was seventeen I was a selfish brattish little ****. I always laughed at older generations that said to me "You kids don't do things the way we did." ********! Unless you fought the damn Germans shut up. When I was seventeen I remember teammates of mine getting pissed off because they weren't picked All-County, I can imagine how bad they would feel if the Vicksburg Evening Post writer put the type of **** I read on boards. I don't care if you talk **** about them hell I will too, but don't act like they're pussies for not taking it. If any of us were being recruited by two big companies and their management emails got leaked detailing our shortcomings in less than flattering nomenclature we all would be bitter and given the opportunity we'd probably bite back. Or better yet put yourself in the stands at a football game and your son drops a pass. The guy next to you screams "Junior you're terrible", I guess you are going to do nothing and be the bigger man. Well I'm not. I'm going to voice my opinion which is exactly what these high schoolers did. Last I checked they weren't crying like John Boener they were sticking it to a few that did or did not represent a fanbase. And lastly we blast them for lack of accountability yet when called out we all say well it wasn't us it was (facebook, gene, Steve, CL etc).

I think we offered him a walk on spot.

He probably made a good choice going to Memphis. He won't win much, because Porter isn't a very good coach, and he's not going to get a lot of talent there, but it'll be a decent stop off for a mid-level guy.

I just remember all the complaints about "the driver" and how he may have cost Price an opportunity at a scholarship.

It was total BS from your fans back then to react that way, and clearly he was good enough to get himself a free education somewhere, which is all anyone was really concerned about, right?

as long as that scholarship isn't at State.

I mean, the guy only cost him a SEC scholarship.

I don't get it.

The point was, you really didn't want the guy all along. Your fans knew it. Your coaches knew it. He was a pawn to get Singleton. The manufactured anger with them not showing up at the camp had nothing to do with Joe Price. That's all I'm saying.

People were acting like he wasn't going to get an opportunity to go to college because of that, which was total garbage.

I don't really know or care what happened, but the reasoning given behind the anger was total BS. If all anyone was concerned about was whether or not a guy was going to get a free education, then you'd be paying more attention to D-2 schools, since the guys that lose out on D-2 scholarships are the ones that have to pay for their education.

Guys that miss out on an SEC scholarship still have plenty of opportunities to get a free education, and that really never even applied to Price, since he apparently had an SEC offer from MSU.

And he deserved every bit of scorn he received from our fanbase. There is absolutely no reason to call the CL and 'decommit' without talking to our coaches first. He ended up in College Football purgatory instead of being in the SEC and i'm perfectly fine with it. I hope he realizes he got played and I hope he regrets it, especially the firstday of the Season.

Itrust Mullen would have honored his Scholarship offer unlike Captain Greyshirt.

Hey it made for a great story in the CL though, one more public decommitment.

this is precisely why these de-commits don't bother me that much....I like the way we are signing kids that have to work hard and want to compete for playing time. Kids these days are spoon fed by parents and coaches and have no idea how hard life really is. There is no grit in them. I hope Mullen can continue to sign players like this (of course throw in a few blue chippers). If he can consistently get guys that have to work hard, then they will play hard too. A good work ethic is contagious and so is a bad one....(see MSU basketball) if ya don't believe it.
