It's looking like McPhee to Jawja.

UGA Bends Academic Standards
_________________________________________________
Funny how when puss came to shove UGA found a way to get McPhee in. Sounds a lot like an OM trick to me.

Regardless, there academic standards are higher than State's so we really can't complain too much, but it does irritate me that they can bend the rules or find a work around when they need a football player. Wonder if the band member would've got the same consideration?

That said, assuming we are going to lose him, I think it may be for the best. He clearly had made a reservation at State - not a commitment. We now have room to go get a four year player that hoepfully won't be a head case (implication fully intended).

Does he not remember Jamar Chaney? The only reason he came to State was because they would not let him in.

I sincerely hope that's a typo. And as a former band member, even I'm not delusional enough to think that the band brings in revenue.

who is going elsewhere or who the coaches think will not sign with us. I think Berry and Langston show the confidence we have in getting Patterson and the same goes with McKenzie/McPhee.

the folks on UGA boards and fans in general don't have a clue who this guy is nor do they care where he signs.

pull the offer or set a deadline.

Something like you have until 600 PM CST or I'm pulling your offer. Just a big <17>U, thank you very much.

What the hell is wrong with you people that think we are in a position to give a player of McPhee's caliber any kind of ultimatum? We have a JUCO All-American at a position we are brutally thin at who has narrowed his choices down to Mississippi State and Georgia and we're supposed to dictate terms? Hell, I don't care if he waits to until last day to sign and doesn't enroll until the last possible day in January. To do anything other than give him all the time he needs is ridiculous.

You people are like spoiled children waiting to open presents on Christmas. Seriously, you're willing to turn your back on a good player just to satiate your need for instant gratification? Grow some patience.

I will, however, point out that we generally don't refer to our coaches (or anyone else) with annoying initials like Bama types do.

other than a blurb about him on the free board.. there is no mention of McPhee. Nothing in the stories.. nothing on the boards.. nothing. I would be some kind of sorry if they wound up with him and many of them said "Who?" I noticed they have a very good player already committed in his same postition that he would be in competetion against. But he is practically guaranteed to be the man at his spot as soon as he is on campus here.

Although we, as college football fans, see this as nothing more than an attempt to sign a solid prospect, it's safe to say that the actual players have a little more riding on their decision. For the most part, the majority of these kids are in the midst of making a once in a lifetime decision that will either lead them to a career in professional football or a solid brick wall of a dead end. Yeah, there's somewhere in between for some, but most fall into the first example. Either way, I don't think that it's beyond reason for these kids to take as much time as possible and weigh all their options.

First off the Georgia fans are well aware of McPhee. He and Montez Robinson out of Indiana, are the DE's they (UGA) are currently after. He is very wanted and needed in Athens. Did you see thier pass rush this season. Awful.

Georgia is not bending any academic rules to get McPhee in. He currently is qualified to get into State, and can enroll early (January). If he decides to go to UGA he will have to take a couple of more classes in order to have enough credits to be qualified. Therefore would be in Athens in June.

I've heard both rumors about him staying with his commitment to State and him signing with UGA. I guess we will see.

So, your position is that the UGA admissions people didn't meet with the football coaches over the weekend and decided to admit him in January if he signs?

As of today if he commits to Georgia he will have to take a couple of classes in order to be admitted this Summer. He was told this when they offered him the scholarship a couple of weeks ago. He is fully qualified to get into State in January. He visited Athens, loved the place and now will decide between UGA and State. My guess is he probably sticks with his original commitment to State.

Fair enough. It's just being reported in other places that UGA has decided to admit him in January if he signs and that is the reason he is considering signing with UGA. We shall see, I suppose.

If they (UGA) decide to admit him early it won't be because the coaches and administration get together behind the scenes to let a JUCO kid in. That's ridiculous. They are probably looking over his transcript and trying to get certain classes to be accepted. No different than myself when I transferred to MSU. The University system of Georgia might not recognize a class that say MSU does. Remember he is in Mississippi and I would think that classes would transfer a lot easier from two schools in the same state. Just think about it.

but based on what I've seen perusing the internet I'll stick by the opinion that the vast majority of GA fans don't even know McPhee exists. He was to decide today most likely and you were hard pressed to find even a mention of him anywhere on the Georgia discussion boards. Now possibly some of that may have been they didn't feel they had much of a chance with him due to his MSU commitment, but given the fact of the turnover in our coaching staff I sort of doubt that's the case.

I really don't have to think about it since I know how these things work. Schools with higher admission requirements, like UGA, make concessions to get athletes into school all time. The decision is likely to be based on how close the athlete is. Don't act like coaching staffs, or their reps, don't meet with admission people to get certain people in. Hell Mark Richt personally tried to Chaney in but it didn't work out. Also, I assumed you were a UGA fan but was probably wrong since you go to State. Otherwise I wouldn't have give your opinion on the matter any more credence than the rest of us, which is to say we really don't know what the hell is going on.

I know you want Mcphee bad at MSU. But, I assure you UGA fans want him in Athens as well. Alot of UGA recruiting news and talk are on pay sites. Gotta pay to see what the people say. Georgia runs a cover 2 that relies heavily on DE's to get pressure on the quaterback. When this doesn't happen they get shredded. They needed DE's bad this year and next.

I know everyone says, "well, if they weren't an athlete they wouldn't get in." This crap happens a lot of the time with regular old Joe Schmo. I had a buddy that got denied for admission at Msu, but his family was friends with a member of the board at Msu and the next day, he got the old red carpet treatment and was admitted to State. These players know the coaches and of course the coaches are going to go to bat for these recruits. If a player can help a coach win, then they would be stupid for not trying everything in their power to get said player into school. And like you said, it's how close the athlete is. And if it's true about McPhee only needing a couple of classes, then I could see them allowing him into UGA in the spring if his Gpa is pretty decent.

I am a fan of both programs, but I am not looking at this with any biased. I promise you. Both programs desperately need some help on the D-line. UGA rarely goes the JUCO route, so they must feel that Mcphee can make an immediate impact. Also I've just heard that he will decide sometime next week. Like I said before, my guess is that McPhee goes to MSU and Robinson (former Auburn Commit) goes to UGA.
