UT has lost three straight to USC, Charlotte, and Oakland. Florida has lost to Central Florida and Jacksonville State. LSU, Auburn, and Alabama are atrocious. Hell we look downright normal in this league.

A decently talented basketball player is a dime a dozen these days. You just need to find a coach that can get all 5 on the floor to pull the same direction.

State, Arkansas, Alabama, Vandy, and of course Kentucky are all among the top recruiting classes for 2011. If we do fire Stansbury then we have got to move fast in gettinganew coachto keep that class together because the SEC is not going to suck like this forever.

that they would leave. If they have any brains, they should at least wait and see who we would hire before they leave.

Heck, for all we know Coach K may want a house in Old Waverly.

The sad thing is, as weak as we are, we're probably still one of the best in the division.

The West has been pathetic the past 4-5 years, but this year I think will be the worst of all.

The West may be lucky to get 1 team in the NIT this year, much less an NCAA bid.

I still think the East can be decent, but Florida and UT have taken a couple on the chin already.

Warren, Buckner, and Gaskins are good players that at least seem to have their head on straight. As bad as the SEC is I could easily see Ole Miss winning 23-24 regular season games as long as yall win out in the OOC.

23 wins still may not be enough to get the Bears into the tournament.

The downside of the West being so bad this year and our weak OOC schedule is more opportunities for bad losses.

We'll take enough bad losses to miss the dance, and right now it's looking like it'll be us and Arkansas fighting it out for the top of the West with maybe only one of us getting in the NIT.

We did lose a home game to a Dayton team that has lost to Old Dominion and ETSU, lost to Cincinnati by 34, and only beat Central Connecticut State and Savannah State by 2 a piece, and we didn't look too sharp against a poor Texas State team.

Right now, if you were to look at our resume, the only "quality" win you'd see is Southern Miss at home. Our next best wins (RPI-wise) are Murray State and ETSU, both Top 100. I seriously doubt USM stays in the Top 50 of the RPI until the end of the season. They may even slip outside the Top 100. Our OOC schedule the rest of the way doesn't give us anymore opportunities for quality wins. When you consider that it's likely we won't face a single West team that will finish in the Top 50 of the RPI, that means that in our entire schedule, we may only have 4 or 5 games against teams that finish in the Top 50 of the RPI (some variation of UK, UT, Florida, Vandy, and Georgia). That's not a lot of opportunity for quality wins, and we'll have plenty of opportunities for losses outside the Top 100. I think Dayton will finish being at least one loss for us outside the Top 100.

To get in the dance, I figure we'd need more Top 50 wins than 100+ losses. I don't know that I see that happening with our schedule.

Aside from all the bad losses taken in the West, I'm still amazed at how bad Auburn is.

so we can pretty much force them to try out a new coach if we want. I know that's not ideal.

Do they like him because he's a nice guy, has a history of competing in the SEC, and think they can become better players under him? Or, do they want to play for him because he's going to let them run the show? If they are going for the latter, I don't want them...

It depends on who they win or lose to.Kind of like us last year.If Ole Miss can avoid the bad losses (ie Auburn, LSU, us) then 23 wins will be plenty. If their only SEC losses are to UK, UT, Vandy, and Florida then that should be enough to get them in because their RPI should be OK.

It should also be noted that the East will have to beat up on each other. If an SEC West team canreally separate from the rest ofthe West then believe it or not the overall champ could come from the West just by process of elimination. Scary.

Someone is always quick to point out how bad Auburn is doing, or LSU, or whatever. It is true that the entire SEC is down. But that shouldn't justify our losses. We should take care of our own business, and then beat the crap out of all the other bad teams while we have the chance.</p>

Jeez, take a breath Drebin, I did not see where anyone in this thread was "justifying our losses". It is a thread about the overall weakness of the SEC. Every thread does not have to be about the exact same thing. Have a that second cup ofcoffee.
