It's quite miserable to watch this baseball team.

Our midweek pitching has little chance of getting anyone out.

3 of your last 4 New Topics have been about how awful the baseball team is. If it is that miserable to watch then don't watch. As others and myself have said, we get that we are bad. Starting numerous post saying the same thing doesn't make it any better.

We are not good, move on or get over it, please.

1.2M per year for 4 years = 4.4M over the life of the contract = set for life (especially with the low cost of living that is Starkville)......I mean he is not really exposing himself to any real risk career wise
1. if he is fired .....MState is an unwinnable situation.....he hires on as a QB coach/offensive co. ....gets another opportunity in a couple of years
2.if he is successful.....He is a god.....he is rewarded handsomely with a nice raise or he moves on to a bigger better situation

I really dont see the downside to his job......whereas the baseball job is just the opposite

A once program who could attract players nationally resorted to 17ing Eupora for not 1 but 2 pitchers. Wtf? Thanks Polk, I guess those 2 were the first 2 to arrive at camp that year. Or was it their eagle scout badge that impressed you so much about them?

Our team is going to be stuck in a rut for a few years. Scoring 8 runs and still losing is really 17in pathetic. Hopefully Cohen's recruiting will turn this thing around

at least twice. In fact, if you throw 90 out of high school, someone will take a chance on you. Of course, throwing 90 and knowing how to pitch are two different things. Looks like we lost that recruiting battle to the Rebs.

and are choosing us over sec schools. The guy is a true freshman. It wasn't a bad sign at all.

I think Jones probably has good stuff. He just needs to learn to spot his fastball and keep it down. His curveball has more movement than anyone's on the staff from what I can tell.

Again, he' s a true freshman.

an entire staff that can't come into a game and get anyone out. Wesson is the only guy used tonight that showed he could calm the flames at least for a while. I don't know if it's the pitches being called from the dugout, location, or what, but this is becoming unreal.

its the perfect storm of youth and lack of talent.

I can't imagine what this would be like if Whitney and Routt hadn't stepped up so far.

Cry us all a river you tittybaby. What did you expect out of this team? Of course we weren't going to be very good in baseball this year, we're REBUILDING. I can understand frustration with sweeps (albeit against top tier teams) and blowouts to inferior midweek opponents but you sound like a whiny *** woman. I'll bet you won't be crying near as much in a year or two after our new baseball and football coaches have fair time to build their programs. Also, I believe that with or without KA we're gonna be a beast in the west next year. Calm down.

has a pretty good baseball program. Not excusing anything, but it's not like we just lost to Arkansas Tech.

They do but they haven't been as strong in the past couple of years. Kittrell may be gone if they don't make a regional this year.

As for base running, that looked to be a killer tonight. And we're definitely hurting at catcher. Third baseman bounced more than one ball to first, missing an out. And Conner needs to get the bat off his shoulders just a bit more. Mid-week pitching is definitely lacking but there's some hope. USA gets up for this game like USM gets up against us. Wind played a factor tonight. It kept switching directions, blowing right to left and then out to center. There were a couple of questionable calls that the crowd protested but our staff did not. USA just kept getting the seeing eye hits, we kept getting the long fly outs.

As usual, MSU fans outnumbered the USA fans. Concessions folks said "we didn't expect this kind of crowd" and ran out of food and drink. Guess no one ever thought about checking attendance records from the past.

we scored 12 runs. We gave up 17.

And I think Connor Powers did fine. Looks like he is coming around. Glad we didn't bench him like I wanted.

Granted, when you give up 17 runs, you're not going to win a whole lot of games, but after a quick glance at the live stats from last night's game, I present to you this:

In the 2nd inning - Rawdow is thrown out at 3rd for the final out of the inning, just after we score our 1st run of the game, which he just drove in. We may not have scored another run that inning, but baseball is a game of momentum and that killed any type of rally we could have had there.

In the 3rd inning - Hogue should have been picked off at 1st (or got himself into another run-down), instead their pitcher makes a wild throw to 1B and he takes 2nd & 3rd base. Hogue then proceeds to get picked off at 3rd base, giving us our 2nd out of the inning (killing our momentum again) and the next batter, of course, strikes out.

In the 5th inning - Connor Powers leads off with a double. He then gets thrown out at 3rd base on a ground ball to the short stop, making the 1st out aGAIN at 3rd base. Rawdow gets caught stealing 2nd to end the inning. How do you get thrown out at 3rd when the ball is hit to the short-stop, when there's no outs in the inning and nobody on 1st that's forcing you to run to 3B??

In the 6th inning - Sneed gets thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch a single into a double, while he just batted in a run. Another momentum killer.

So, we had 3 people get thrown out at 3rd base (just last night), and 5 runners overall, but this was not the problem? We lost by 5 runs and had 5 guys thrown out on the base paths. I would argue that in every one of those instances, they were HUGE momentum killers for our guys. Like I said, we still may not have won the game, but to keep dismissing the sheer stupidity that is our base-running and blaming every ****** little thing about our baseball program on Polk is ridiculous. We run the bases like a little league team. That is on Cohen. I sai this in the thread on Sunday - there is a difference in playing aggressive and playing stupid. We have played a lot of stupid baseball so far this season!

So you know we are goinbg to suck in baseball this year, yet you continue to freak out after every loss? That makes sense.

I can't think of a game that its cost us and its going to happen when you change the way your team plays. I know a big ole miss fan that bitched about the same thing early in the Bianco era. Im ean, really, the last thing I give a damn about when we lose 17-12 is baserunning.

Im just not going to get all up in arms about it b/c its going to happen. Also, our coach used this same approach at Kentucky and won more SEC titles than we have in the last 19 seasons.
