Well apparently Chris Wilson is not qualified to coach Atari 2600 football, much less an SEC power like Mississippi State. But that hasn't always been the case. Just a few short months ago, the lovefest for him was in full swing, as evidenced by these posts.

Maroonmania: Its obvious right now that Wilson is the assistant we can least afford to lose.

Portillodawg: Wilson knows he's got something special going in Starkville. No reason to leave a good thing.

Purebred Dawg: He seems to be a good recruiter, already knows the schemes and most importantly I trust his judgement.

Ckdawg: I still support Rick…..If everyone is content with likely disappointment and no post-season success in basketball, that's fine. Let's just cut the budget and pass the savings on to football - Chris Wilson needs a raise.

FreeDawg: Chris Wilson coaches his *** of the entire practice long. He teaches, disciplines, and motivates at a very high level of energy. We need to give him a raise and keep him as long as possible

Buford T. Justice: Wilson and Collins will teach these linemen and linebackers how to play.

Squirldawg: Chris Wilson is a stud. He should be in the conversation if it ever comes time for a new head coach

shotgunDawg: Chris Wilson has proven that he will put talented players in position to make plays.

esplanade91: Chris Wilson proved he could produce top defensive prospects at Oklahoma when he recruited and built Gerald McCoy into a #3 pick. Wilson is a great coach.

And then there was the President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer of the I Heart Chris Wilson fan club.

DAWG61: Has Chris Wilson gotten a raise yet? Hope so.
DAWG61: Can Chris Wilson get a raise please...
DAWG61: With UT losing their DC... I think State needs to lock Wilson in now. GIVE HIM A RAISE!!
DAWG61: MSU needs to step up and pay Wilson before he leaves.
DAWG61: Chris Wilson as head coach if Dan leaves.

D@A has always believed that DCs are a dime a dozen. There are maybe a handful nationally who make a positive impact on their team by scheme, preparation etc. The rest are about as good or as bad as the players they have on the field and the offenses they are facing. Looks like Wilson is supporting that argument for me.

Only gripe I have is playing the 3 man front......

I don't think that's ever worked at MSU. I remember Ole Miss gashing Ellis Johnson's 3 man front until suddenly we went to 4 and started holding them. Amazing.

Chris Wilson isn't bad, fans are just frustrated with our defense, who is really missing Fletcher Cox right now. DL will be better next year with Big Quay, a much improved Denico Autry and Nick James playing more.

Actually I stand behind what I said in your list of quotes, and you took my quote out of context. I was not discussing Wilson's scheme, nor was I discussing his overall coaching ability to gameplan. The discussion was taking raw individuals who had not been properly coached in high school and teaching them college technique. My full quote was this:

A lot of the smaller schools or financially-strapped schools struggle for good coaching. I remember Kaleb Eulls at Yazoo County. He got his *** handed to him by MRA because the guy really didn't know how to play. He kept standing straight up at the snap. We got him on campus with some coaching and we've got a heckuva player. Wilson and Collins will teach these linemen and linebackers how to play.

My quote had to to do with a subject of taking small or rural school guys and getting them out of bad habits. That was the context of my quote. Of course don't let the facts ruin a good story. Overall, I haven't said a whole lot one way or another on Wilson.

Do you still stand by the fact that we have a heck of a player in Eulls? Not sure why he seems to have taken a step back this year, but he like most of the other DL has been invisible for the most part. We're hardly ever winning 1-1 matchups outrights and struggle to shed the blocks in the run game.

I remember someone saying that a knock on our guys from NFL types was we were behind in technique, but our guys did understand the effort required.

To defend myself, you can't show a post of mine doing the 360 and bashing Wilson. I still like him as a coach and want him to stay.

If you want to argue that point about Eulls I will listen, because maybe I was wrong. Eulls has been solid but nothing more. I expected more from him this year than he has given. It's almost like he has hit a ceiling of some sort. If I'm wrong then that is okay, and I very well might be wrong.

However, don't pull up a quote about teaching small school players technique and turn it into me agreeing with Wilson about 3-4 or 4-3, when to blitz, needing a raise, good or bad gameplan, schemes, zone or man, etc.

Are you suggesting folks are high on coaches during solid performance

and down on coaches when we aren't killing it? What kind of radical are you? That's a horrible observation. That never happens.

I'm not sure how many people are really convinced Chris Wilson can't coach versus people are just not sure. We still have a pretty small sample from him against spread teams. Last year's Auburn game was excusable b/c he was brand new and basically breaking in two new linebackers against SEC competition and working without a DE. If we had showed up against A&M, I don't think anybody would be that worried about the Troy game. Right now I'm scared as hell that he's a Tyrone Nix clone, but that's not because I think he is one. It's just that the results on the field don't tell me he's not. If our defense shows up against Arkansas and UM, you'll see me and a lot of other people breath a sigh of relief.

Haha nice!! I still like Wilson. He's had a bad 3 games but nobody is making plays on that side of the ball. If we get our normal 3-4 turnovers we would be seeing different results.

Case in point - Monte Kiffin. Co-developed the Tampa 2. His UT defenses were pretty good against the SEC stable of average QB's. But now....

Well first, I am not for making a change at DC nor have I said that in any way. Another year of underperforming and I may change my mind but not right now. I have questioned some of the soft non-aggressive defensive schemes we've played this year but that's about it. And if you say I had that quote sometime back in the past I'll take your word for it but prior to this season starting the primary reason Wilson would have been the coach we least needed to lose was due to recruiting. Last year we probably had the best defensive recruiting class we've ever had in our history, at least on paper, and Chris Wilson probably had more to do with that than anyone.

Didn't we sign the #1 DL class in the nation last year and wasn't Wilson the main reason for those signings?
