It's time to put the "we're young" myth to rest.

Here's who plays for us this year.

Position players:

FR 4 (2 redshirts)
SO 5
JR 2
SR 1

Pitchers:

FR 2
SO 2
JR 4
SR 1

The pitchers are very experienced. And only 2 of the 12 position players are true freshmen. For college baseball, we're not that young.

their 1st full season of minor league ball. If' you're playing more than 2 or 3 seniors, you've got a problem.

You can't afford to wait till a player's 3rd season to start getting good production or you'll get killed in this league.

the problem is even worse than I thought. Although that would explain a lot.

tend to shy away from players that have blue eyes(can't handle the sun) and/or have full beards(they have alreadyreached potential).
Draw your own conclusion, thats all I've got to say.

Granted Porter and Slaughter are Juco's. How many other conference teams have relied on first year players for right over half of their total AB's? Redshirts or not, that's a pretty amazing stat.Yes, injuries forced us into the situation and shows how badly we missed those guys, especially Norris. Pitching isn't young at all and guess why they are putting up the numbers they are now? It's not a coincidence.

in my opinion. I've seen guys out there hobbling around and stuff. Especially moreso during the first half of the SEC season. And with those injuries, came inexperience. I think going into the LSU series, our starters for that particular series had a grand total of something like 17 SEC starts or games between the entire team.

Now that are more healthy, we are less inexperienced because it was our more experienced guys that are now back.

The reason we don't have or play very many seniors is because Polk's last class- the guys that would be seniors this year- didn't make it this far. And it wasn''t because they were great draft prospects either- other than Devin Jones. The best guys that came out of that group are Caleb Reed and Nick Routt. Jarrod Parks was in it, but he was recruited and signed by Cohen.

then go pro and bring the next group of good players in. We had 1 winning season in their 4-year careers. You're really not making your case here.

If they're worth a damn you're not going to have them for a 2nd year anyway. And most of the other ABs by "1st year players" are redshirts.

Of course Hamilton, is the most famous case. Some guy broke down the stats for 25 blue eyed players and 13 had a better batting average during the day as opposed to 12 that had better night averages. The guy also pointed out Mark Grace that had the most hits of any player in the 90's while playing a large majority of his games during the day.

Is dependent upon how our age compares to the contributors of other top teams... Without adding that information, this post is simply subjective to what you call youth, with no actual proven validity...

I'm on the road now, but when I get back, I'll research and add this information... Because I'm genuinely interested now that you bring it up...
