It's too bad the August rerankings for both services suck...

Both rivals and scoutcalculate precise score algorithms for the February rankings, but for August just have one guy eyeball the list and move a few schools up or down a couple spots. In 2009, Ole Miss lost 7 of their top 9 recruits, and only got bumped downa couplespots, when they should have dropped 7-10 or more. That same year, Stateonly lost a few 2-starrecruits, yet only moved up one or two positionsin August. There were teamsthat were barely ahead of State in February, lost 3- and 4-star recruits, andstayed ahead of State. Of course, teams that didn't lose any would stay or improve their position.

A true re-ranking in August that was published and used would help compare classes better. I guess the services just don't care to do it right, probably because the season is about to start and no one cares about recruiting rankings, plusschools outside theSouthdon't lose as many recruits between February and August.

Of course, the BEST re-ranking would be 3-4 years later, after the players have had a chance to get on the field and contribute. I'd like to see the 2008 class ranked based onhow they did over the past few years.

Med Chris Low just did 3 articles on the 2007 class of recruits. Of the ESPN Top 150 Ole Miss had three players of which the most productive one last year had 20 total tackles for the season. One never made it to campus and the other never played. I would tell you how ours was but we had zero

It's not about following a class until signing day, though that's when everyone proclaims their championships (MSU fans included).

It's about following the whole process to know what gaps you have on your team, where your talent is, and when you can expect to be good.

It's not that hard to project ups and downs for your team if you follow not just the signing of players but their development and attrition.

Was our 2009 class overrated based on its February 2009 ranking and what actually is on campus today? A little bit if you're a ratings junkie. Was it as overrated as the ratings junkies from our rivals make it out to be? Definitely not. It was still a very solid class, because a lot of solid players are still on our team from that class despite losing some of the February headliners, and that's what I'm talking about when you follow the entire process. You can easily bump your expectations up or down based on what you keep and what those players show. Some of them will be better than expected. Some will be worse.

On the 2009 numbers, we actually had 8 of our 9 4 star recruits according to Rivals report to campus. Hornsby was the only one that didn't make it. Drummond reported in the spring and quit before the fall, so I guess 7 of the 9 were on campus that fall when the re-rankings were published, so they weren't that far off in the way they did it. Since then we've lost another 4 of those.

If you followed scout, 8 of the top 10 prospects they had on our list were there in August of 2009, so our August re-ranking wasn't going to be that bad.

Anyway, that's why I said that on paper, your 2007, 2008, and 2009 classes were all better than ours for those years, regardless of what the February rankings said. I don't think there is a big gap between our 2009 classes, but there was a significant gap between your 07/08 classes and our 07/08 classes. Croom didn't recruit as poorly as many of your fans thought at the end.

You do that and you'll get all the Crooms-Mullen comparisons thrown out. It's funny to look at all the 4+ stars we got when Crooms was around and how many of them stuck around. Mullen has gotten a few and they have already had an impact. <div>

and it's damn funny how you wind up in EVERY recruiting thread. hell there is nothing going on between UM and MSU right now but recruiting.... yet it seems like you are here hitting the refresh button every 5 seconds.<div>
</div><div>Hell you never take longer than 30 mins to reply to a thread.. on a bulldog board... in the middle of recruting season... on a thread about recruiting.. and on midday Tuesday. Oh but no.. you don't follow recruiting, claim LSU is a bigger rival than MSU, and bleed obsession on a Maroon and White board.</div><div>
</div><div>Makes perfect sense.</div>

You post in every thread as if you are the holder of all knowledge. You always, and I mean always, try to sound like the objective observer able to render an unbiased verdict on the subject.

Give me an example of MSU fans proclaiming championships in February. Until then you can quit your unbaised observer act.
