For the past couple years, Ive been saying here how important it is for WVUFamily to follow our players on social media outlets. For many reasons, and now there is an even larger one.
NIL deals in many cases will be determined by the network a college player has on their social media. If WVU is known to offer its players the largest following, or one of the largest, it will help our players secure more+better NIL deals. Even if you dont want to spend time on any of them, create a profile and follow all the players and new commits, then just log in once a year to follow the new class's commits.
This will go a long way in helping them as they negotiate deals. If every player upon commitment receives 500k-1mill followers, this will separate them from other players and us from other programs.
Twitter & Instagram are the two main SM outlets that matter most, so if you are not on those I would kindly recommend take a few mins create a generic profile, and follow all the WVU players. Fans, collectively now hold more power then we did historically, we will truly see the strength of the WVU fanbase.. This is a massive feather in the cap for our coaches on the recruiting trail, if in time WVU is known to provide one of the largest SM networks of any other collegiate program.
While many of the older generation may not understand or shrug it off, Networks = Reach = Marketability, networks are easily monetized these days, and a players attractiveness will largely be determined by their network size.
If you truly love WVU sports, then do your small part and take 10mins and create a profile and follow our players. If we are aligned as a fanbase, this will in time, make a massive difference for us.
