I've come to the realization that we are just not a good baseball team

I listen to all the games, and get frustrated game after game thinking we are snakebit and have bad luck. Fact is, we are a bad baseball team. No matter what Goat or Coach says, the team can't hit very well. Our pitching is average, and we have no closer. Fielding is atrocious also. It's really sad that I'll be happy if we can win 1 of 3. Maybe one day our baseball team will be good again, but I don't see that happening this year or next. Right now i'd be happy to be .500 in the SEC, but we aren't that good.

We haven'thosted a regionalsince 2003. We haven't gone a decade without hosting a regional since before the old Dudy Noble Field was built in the late 60s.

I kinda think this is a 'growing pain' year. We've seen some flashes and we've lost games in different ways. It's not like this team just sucks at _______________. We struggled at the plate w/o Norris, Brownlee, and Bradford. Reed has blown two saves for us.

Problem is we have 6 series left including this weekend. The other team we're playing is better than us in 4 of those 6, and the other 2 will be close.

deep pitching staff. Fact is we have an average SEC pitching staff. The sad part is we don't realize that. Compared to the staffs we have had the past 5 or 6 years, it looks like we have 5 future Cy Young winners on the staff. Graveman, our 2nd best pitcher is allowing SEC hitters to hit .300 against him. Thank God we are average in the pitching department because we are below average in every other area of the game.

I'll be OK with being average every year. But I guess the stats don't realize that we're average as well.

We all knew that beforehand. Not sure why that makes Cohen a bad coach. It was pretty much expected.<div>
</div><div>I think we all also expect Cohen to host a regional next year with a veteran team loaded with high profile recruits, too.</div>

stats. We beat up on HORRIBLE teams in the nonconference schedule.

Let's look at conference only stats so we can end the myth:

These are only through April 12th. So, in theory, we would have gotten worse pitching wise after last night.

Pitching: Team ERA-4.00(7th) Hits allowed-120(10th) Runs allowed-62(tied for 10th) Earned Runs-49(8th) Walks 52 (10th) Innings pitched-110.1 (3rd)(Blame this stat on Reed or our ****** offense). Saves-2(Tied for 8th) We ARE second in the league in strikeouts.

Todd, by all meansdon't let facts ruin your perception. Nonconference stats are meaningless considering who we played.

Some people are starting to see what I've been saying all year, but there are still some in complete denial about our baseball program.</p>

I agree, this **** won't cut it in this league......I could very well see the loss last night taking the wind completely outta the sails of this team, especially if we get behind early today.......

1) Do you think our program is improving?<div>
</div><div>2) Do you think it's a little premature to judge the program before the end of the season? The competition in the SEC thus far has been pretty fierce.</div>

I'm not judging the program after 1/2 season, I'm judging it after 3-1/2 seasons. And it's still the exact same program Polk II was.

Just complete disagreement. I truly do not understand how anyone who has followed this program since about 2000 can have that opinion. I've been following closely since about 1988 myself.<div>
</div><div>Just one last thing.....Polk's teams did consistently make regionals, I will give you that. But, it was also already established and somewhat kept at a high level by McMahon. 2007 was obviously a run of good luck, much like last year (any other team besides Florida and we'd be in Omaha by the way, but I digress). At the end of the day, I judge a program by how the regular season went and our placement in the post season.....we all know what happens in the post season is highly volatile. To me, that's the single best way to judge the overall state of talent and development.</div><div>
</div><div>That said, we are improving. Even you much agree that Polk stopped recruiting after Easley/Moreland's class. We had NO pitching. We had to build out of that, and we did, and now we're performing about like we were last year, actually better in my opinion. No blowouts thus far.</div><div>
</div><div>The question is, do you really think this is as high as Cohen will take us? Look how young we are. This isn't our best. We are going to get better with experience. Do you really not see this? I personally believe we'll be good enough to host regionals next year. We're trending upwards, where Polk's program was trending downwards. We are not maxed out at our potential yet.</div>
