until we face FSU on Saturday. If we can't beat Samford without our ace, we won't make it out of the regional anyway.

looking ahead and having astrategyin place is playing to win. Also you have to look at the big picture in baseball, due to the fact that a team must win MULTIPLE games to win the regional.

Lose either one and you're at a huge disadvantage. We can probably beat Samford with a freshman. We need Strat for FSU.

is reading through FSU message boards. They know they're dodging a huge
bullet, don't understand our decision at all, and feel like they can
win the regional now. They're probably right, too. To win the regional, we probably need to face FSU either 2 or 3 times. We won't get to use Stratton in ANY of those games.

I know we've got awesome depth, but ****, you don't blow the pitcher of
the year vs a #3 seed when you're in the #3 NATIONAL seed's region.

FSU and Samford are having to roll the dice with their starters in the first game because they have either overthrown their ace (samford) or don't trust their #3 in a potential sunday championship game (FSU).

We are blessed with enough good arms to not have that worry. We can pitch our ace today with the confidence that we will be able to trot someone out to the hill on saturday and sunday that can give us an effective outing. That is an awesome thing!

FSU is risking it all in game 1 because if they were to lose that game, they will have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. Samford really doesn't have a choice and is praying their hitters can score enough runs to give them a chance. In reality they see their chances of winning the tournament as a long shot because even if they somehow won the first two games they would probably have nothing on the hill for sunday.

I wonder if it is a coaching technique to have your players bail you out kind of like a challenge to them.

Ex. Leaving Ross in the 9th initially AND after a hbp forcing Reed to have to throw a ground ball.
Ex. Putting our pitchers in a position where the 5th best ERA in the nation is needed to win games
Ex. Beating the #3 National Seed twice (maybe 3 times) without our ace

Guess with Cohen we have to take the good with the bad. Those players are the most damn motivated and hardworking I've seen at MSU and he's definitely the reason for that. Hope that overcomes his game decisions.

Is useless in my opinion. I think sweep the regional. This team is hot, all the pitchers are hot. Cohen has made good decisions so far. Sanford may be more dangerous to us than the Seminoles.

Cohen is far from the prefect coach, and this is just more evidence to support that. We need Strattan for FSU, it's crazy not saving him for them.

One thing is for sure, we won't have to beat FSU 3 times. Seriously, why do you care what people on FSU's message boards think. Why not just trust the coach and pitching coach that has got us here. We have pitchers other than Stratton that can handle FSU. My concern is not about pitching but if we will hit the ball. If we hit good I think we win the regional no matter who we play.

or what if our freshman loses to samford ...you going to throw stratton vs uab in the losers bracket saturday? or you going to prehaps go 0-2 saving stratton for fsu, which you may not play.

FSU will not lose to UAB.. And yes you would hold him no question. The goal of this weekend is to win the regional, not get Chris Stratton innings

I'm thinking part of the reason we go with Stratton is it gives Graveman
an extra day to rest the groin. Also, I don't think Woodruff is a
viable option for Friday given that he would be coming off 4 days rest
after already starting the SEC title game on 4 days rest. While
Stratton did play Sunday, he didn't throw more than 10 pitches.

I
just hope we have the quick hook if Graveman isn't getting ground balls
Saturday (like the last 2 Kentucky games). I think Ross Mitchell might
be a good option, if needed, given he throws a lot of off speed stuff
similar to Pigott in 2007.

of the last 48 regionals only 2 have lost the 1st game and won the regional... do you have a better chance of winning game 1 with Stratton or with out.

If you lose game 2, then game 1 is pointless. The question is Do you have a better chance of winning THE REGIONAL with him going today. No, you don't. It doesnt matter, just academic now because The Motivator is going with him today

I think my money goes on the man whose career lives and dies by W's & L's. I understand both arguments, but somehow think Cohen has specific reasons for choosing to start Strat against Sam.

i don't even know why the hell we went to the regional

**fsu will not lose to uab
**woodruff or graveman will beat samford

if these are no doubts then why do you feel like stratton will be #3 FSU hosting their regional with their ace going in a sat night game on ESPN2

I believe I have a better chance of being correct than your whims of a UAB win. Here's some logic.

1. If you believe that Graveman/Woodruff can beat FSU (or UAB***), you should really think they can beat Samford
2. If you are not an idiot, you should think that Stratton is our best pitcher
3. If you think that Stratton is our best pitcher, you should want him going against the best team (FSU)

Why not plan for the most likely outcome.

1. our best pitcher is ready to pitch
2. of the last 48 regionals the regional winner has won their 1st game of that regional, 46 times
3. I dont' have a clue who the hell we will face saturday, yet
4. I also realize to get through this regional even if stratton pitches game 2, someone else will have to beat fsu, I just rather that be in a non elimination game.

your plan is to try to beat samford, with graveman or woodruff, if that don't happen
then your plan is to try to beat uab with another pitcher, if that don't happen you left your best damn pitcher on the shelf for fsu and are headed home

my plan says throw stratton today and if you need him throw him monday...

I've gone back and forth on this but after thinking about it...we should hold Stratton...

1. All our pitchers are ready to pitch
2. I have no plans of losing today (What if we lose with Stratton today?!?!**) Of those 46 how many won game 2 as well???
3. I do. FSU if we win UAB if we lose
4. Yes but if Stratton wins game 2 (he give us our best chance to do that) then Florida State would have to beat us twice.

Stratton will not go on Monday, that would be 2 days rest.

If you are comfortable with Graveman/Woodruff vs FSU then why not throw one today. Its about winning the first 2. You dont get that at all. Game 1 doesnt mean **** without Game 2
