Both. The sidewalk fans are the tattooed, confederate flag toting mouth breathers, and the students/alumni are the privileged, "diddy'll take care of it," yuppie greek kids.
First of all, that's the most asinine pile of horseshit I've ever heard. Are there some at the school who fit both stereotypes? Absolutely. Are there some at MSU who fit both stereotypes? Absolutely. Are there some who fit both stereotypes at every 17ing school in the country? Probably not in the SWAC for the confederate flag toting, but for every other 17ing trait you brought up? Absolutely.
I'm an alumnus. I earned two degrees there. And frankly, I'm sick of being included in the broad sweep of the paintbrush SOME of y'all use to shape your view of us. I paid my way. I knew a lot of students and made a lot of friends who also paid their own way. In fact, most of the people I knew or came across received little if any help from their parents, and they covered a variety of colors, views and religions. And yes, a few even had tattoos. Ooooohhhh. Bit bigoted to judge someone for having a tattoo, btw, ain't it?
And the constant references to the confederate flag are getting old. Guess what? Went to high school with a future MSU alum who is the son of a sitting U.S. judge who fits into both categories. Wealthy family with a diddy'll take care of it attitude, and pictured with his father dressed as Robert E. Lee at an Old South party at MSU.
You 17ing hypocrite, y'all got 'em too. Should I judge an entire fanbase based on one person I know? No, because I'm a well-reasoned, rational human being who understands that every school has these types.
You're identity is figured out, homeslice; you people are just a bunch of racist ********. Seriously, y'all are some of the most pretentious, pompous douchebags that ride the coattails of a few good seasons back in the good ole days when "whites where wyatt and coloreds were colored and things used to make sense." You may have a beautiful campus to party on but you display no class or sense of humility when it comes to football. TSUN has not been relevant in football since the sixties.
Mississippi state shows that we want to build and deserve to be taken seriously because we are on a mission to improve. TSUN shows that they feel they belong with the Bamas, Flardas, LSUs and UGAs of the college football world when in reality those big programs laugh when they hear that.
It's okay to be realistic.
First off, for chrissakes, it's YOUR, not YOU'RE. I know spelling/grammar smack is weak, but if you don't know the difference, please don't butcher the English language.
You will not label me a racist ******* you 17ing **********. That's just like me labeling you a redneck because you ring a cowbell. You do realize, you're showing bigotry based solely on school affiliation by doing that, right? Just a touch of irony there. Tell you what, how about you be a realist and drop this false, sanctimonious horseshit that my school is all-white and a haven for all the racists, and yours has a perfect split of every known race and religion where no one is bigoted and everyone sings koom-bi-yah?
How do you know we're all racist ********? How much time have you spent around sidewalk fans or graduates of Ole Miss? Obviously you have us all pegged.
Tell you what, tell me what you're basing your opinion, your seething hatred on?
You see, that's the difference between you and I. Your hatred toward my school is so intense that you have no qualms labeling several 100,000 people based on interactions with a few or even just your perception. I don't like MSU, but I know many people and have many friends who went to MSU, and respect the institution itself. Hell, I was there for the Auburn game in 2005 (I think) and had a blast at Bulldog Bash. It was so cool to me to see thousands of people of all different backgrounds mingling together in a social setting such as that. Even found myself thinking I might have had a great time had I attended MSU, and I had a great time at Ole Miss.
And I know how you're going to twist that statement. "Yeah, you never saw that at Ole Miss." You're right if you're talking about an event other than a sports contest that that many students got involved with and participated in. Oh wait, I forgot about Double Decker, which features just as wide a spectrum of participants.
But I'm a racist. Well, actually, I'm sorry, I misspoke. I'm an evolved human being with opposable thumbs, and you're a 17ing narrow-minded, waste of flesh and bone, bonafide douchebag. Not because you're a ********** and/or an MSU fan and/or alum, but because you choose to follow your hatred rather than your common sense.
You are right about one thing. We didn't continue building. The first downfall was that the football team didn't integrate until well after the school did. The second is that we absolutely did nothing facilities-wise for far too long. The third was that we had a long streak of horrendous GOB leadership.
We're changing that. Built a new baseball field a few years ago. About to expand Vaught-Hemingway to 70,000+ and build a new basketball arena. I (and most of us) don't feel we belong with those teams in football. Baseball and basketball may be a different story. That said, a year after 2-10, we gave LSU all it could handle. We were an inch away from beating the team that did beat Bama. Hey, South Carolina seems to belong with Georgia (their transition didn't happen overnight) and save for a turnover and utterly blowing two plays in the first half, we lead them 17-0 or 21-0 at the half and its a different ball game.
Today, we seem to have a pretty good AD and a pretty good coach. How will both pan out? Only time will tell.
The point I'm making is, no we don't belong with them right now, and most of us realize that. Y'all are on a mission to improve, whatever that means, and mockingus because we aspire to reach the level of those elite teams.
1. What's wrong with aspiring to that level? That's excellence, that's success. Every team should aspire to that.
2. If y'all are on a mission to improve, I would assume you're trying to improve to the same level. If not, what's the 17ing point?
Rome wasn't built in a day. Meanwhile, if I'm understanding your bolded quote correctly, you have accepted that y'all never will. And that's just sad.
Now I apologize if I misunderstood, and if that was your own little snide way of saying we're stuck in the muck and y'all are shooting for the stars, let me remind you of one more quote:
It's okay that LSU, TSUN's biggest rival/toughest competitor from the good ole days, kept moving on and building on success while TSUN didn't. There is nothing wrong with that. They have one major, big-time program in the state and they get to pick and choose who they want to play, while Mississippi State -- and even USM at times -- takes away from TSUN's recruiting grounds. They just have better talent. Well, and realistic expectations.
If you think we can't aspire to higher levels because of those disadvantages and MSU can, guess what. You face the exact same disadvantages. We're both in the same predicament.
The difference is, y'all focus the majority of your effort and pride on the state of Mississippi and and getting as many players from this state as possible. We want the best players in this state too, but are recruiting a wider base. Which approach will work? Which school has the better coach and AD? Can either school climb out of mediocrity and get to the upper echelon?
The answer is, simply, only time will tell.
