I've seen 2 different versions of playoff format?

which is right?

Seed all first place teams by RPI and then the rest of teams by RPI's? Only first place teams in a split conference can be considered a champion?

or

Seed 1st place teams by RPI then 2nd place teams by RPI and the rest as Wild Cards by RPI?

or

Split conference champions must finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd …AND/OR….have .500 winning percentage or better…to qualify as a conference champion….as long as the conference has at least 2 teams from each classification.

The conference champions are seeded first by RPI

The 2nd place qualifiers and “At Large” teams are lumped together and seeded by RPI after the Conference champions are seeded.
