Not that Sam's is the pinnacle of an economy. But it is another in a long list of big businesses fleeing Jackson.

There is exactly 1 Walmart left in Jackson. Its on Hwy 18 south of I-20.

On a related note, at least entertainment in Jackson has picked up a little. Blue Man Group was awesome last night. Talia Mara Hall was sold out. They're playing again tonight. It was packed for BB King recently as well.

The WalMart on Wheatley is in Ridgeland....

Being on the north side of County Line Road makes a huge difference.

This is my biggest fear. Have they done this for sure or is it just being talked about? also do you know of who we can contact to voice our opinion on this?

Jackson issues aside, this does bother me about Wal-Mart companies....

when a location's building gets older, even if that location is very profitable and busy, they rarely renovate it, but instead move out and build elsewhere, leaving an empty building, and often a deteriorating strip mall along with it.

It was on the news last night and I think in the paper today. Mayor Mary and

Tulane are opposing the move. On what grounds I am not sure but I would assume need.

Yeah, what the hell does Whole Foods know? They generally never perform any due diligence on site location before dropping a few mill into a new retail location.

Maybe Whole Foods knows more about Jackson than you do.

It's just a turn of phrase. But if you can't figure out why Madison residents would not want JSU-Madison opening up down the street, well, you're pretty dense.

Since I'm so dense....

why don't you spell it out for me. Why would Madison residents be opposed to a branch location of a college in their town?

They don`t want to take such an opportunity from a more deserving community such as Canton.

My guess re: Whole Foods....

is that Belhaven, Fondren, to Eastover is the one area of the metropolitan area that had the requisite population density and per-capita income to meet its guidelines.

Wasn't that the whole point of his post?

He stated that he did not know why whole foods was locating there, in other words, he was ignorant to that information.

Possibly but I was thinking strictly about the money trail. That usually trumps everything else.

Another fem-centric liberal setting someone up for a lecture, I see?

In reality, I don't see why 'the issue' would matter. They are trying to get their minority (weird) numbers up.

When the parking, traffic and security issues are all resolved without this being a total CF I`ll eat my words. Until then I`m gonna doubt that Whole Foods is any smarter than Wal Mart or any other major merchants that are leaving Jackson.

You have to assume that a business that successful does their due diligence

before opening a location. So I think the traffic and parking issues won't be a big deal. The security, that may be, but its not in a horrible area. The security hasn't been a problem in Highland Village to this point that I'm aware of.

The Turstmark bank there was robbed fairly recently. That parking lot has been in the news for muggings. Despite all that I think it is reasonably safe, just not Madison safe.

I have no idea how parking is going to work out.

When you see mounted police patroling a parking lot you pretty well can assume there`s a security issue.

There are mounted police that patrol Highland Village? As in, on horses? Since when? Lived here most of my life and have never seen that...

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Jackson police are lighting up shopping centers across the city during the holiday season.
Officers will have their blue lights on in 12 high traffic areas to increase visibility and make shoppers feel safe.
There will also be foot and mounted horse patrols.
This is the third year for "Operation Safe Shop -Look to the Blue Lights."
60 additional officers will be on the streets.
The operation began Thursday and will continue every day through December 31st, from 9 AM until 11 PM.
"We are promoting professionalism for our officers, so that they will be available and receptive to those individuals who are coming into the shopping center and offer any type of assistance that they may need," said Jackson Police Chief Rebecca Coleman.
This is a list of some of the areas where police will be patrolling this holiday season:
Westland Plaza, Hwy 18 corridor, Hwy 80 corridor, I-55 corridor, Highland Village, Wal-Mart, Metro-Center Mall, County Line Road, Maywood Mart, Sam's Club, Target/Home Depot, and Fondren

I suspect "insufferable" will do more harm than "white enrollment." Just speculation.
