to Pittsburgh apparently. Astros Pirates and Rays working on three team deal and he is a piece going to Pittsburgh (along with Brandon Lowe).

If it goes through, I don't hate it. He'd be a good fit, I like the Pirates and I like to think they are finally starting to build a good team (though they have a poor ownership history that pulls against that conclusion). Can't stand the Rays - do not like the way the constantly move players around in their system and on the major league field - no chance at consistency needed to develop and push through rough spots. We will see - supposed to finalize today.

Interesting. If they bring Frazier back for 2026 (looks like he’s a free agent), that’d be an awesome team for MSU fans to follow next year.

He would be better off in Tampa, Stu sold the team so they'll likely be much more stable especially with the new stadium they are planning to build as part of the sale. Pittsburg is an even bigger dumpster fire than the current Rays.

Will he have a chance to start for them?

Probably either a 4th out fielder or AAA according to this article. Of course he proved the Rays wrong this season as his call up was supposed to be a short one due to injuries. I think he'll stick with the Pirates.

MLB’ers is this a good spot for Jake or is he behind people and his time up in the show in jeopardy?

I just looked at Pittsburgh’s stats for this past season. If Mangum had played for them instead of the Rays, he would be:
2nd in batting avg
2nd in stolen bases
2nd in hits
6th in RBIs
5th in doubles
5th in total bases
5th in OBP
5th in OPS
2nd in WAR
1 of 2 guys on the team with more than 400 at-bats with less than 70 strikeouts.

Plus, he’s got a good glove in the outfield.

He’s got a real chance to be a big contributor in Pittsburgh.

Frazier has to write his current address on his wrist w/ a Sharpie so that he can remember where he is waking up at he's played in so many different places. According to Gemini his career goes like this:

Pirates 2016-2021
Padres 2021
Mariners 2022
Orioles 2023
Royals 2024- 2025
Pirates 2025

Edit: No disrespect to Adams career at all, I'm sure he's done really well financially. But, damn, that's a lot of flights, packing, unpacking, moving, selling, buying, etc etc, which are all things I really hate to do.

If you look up "journeyman player" his picture is beside the definition, just below the definition of a baseball "battery"..............

Just had him in this week. He talks about how Adam Frazier was bud MSU baseball hero growing up. Hopefully the Pirates will re sign him. Here is the interview if you missed it.

Cruz and Reynolds are pretty solid in OF, but no one else worth writing home about.

McCutchen and Pham are dinosaurs.

I think Jake still plays just about every day.

Looks like TB having a fire sale under the new ownership. Fail to see how they get better any time soon from this. Lose an All-Star 2B and 1.7 WAR / .700 OPS outfielder….gain an OF who had a .419 OPS in 78 PA in his only MLB season, and a RHP who looks promising but hasn’t even gotten out of A-ball yet. Their OF somehow got worse.

I think they wanted to get something for Lowe since he hits FA after 2026, and Mangum was demanded as the additional asset for taking on the contract and long term risk.

What I read is that TB rarely "loses" trades and trades their players at opportune times to maximize trade value. Hopefully, that's not accurate in this deal and Jake has a great career in Pburgh.

I think its pretty hard to measure who “loses” a trade like the one Tampa just did. Three teams that are all wanting very different things. Pirates want to get better now, Tampa knows they are getting worse now to hopefully get a lot better 2-3 years from now.

Two proven mid-level, generally everyday players in their late 20’s for two totally unproven but high ceiling guys in their early 20’s.

Rays are just essentially always trying to keep as much team control / leverage as possible, and always trying to get younger. Their only shot at a title is having the stars align with like 3 or 4 All-Star caliber players in the line-up while in the pre-arbitration period, with a solid pitching staff to boot. They’ve only got one of those guys now (Caminero). This move says they know they can’t compete in the near future.

They had absolutely no reason to get rid of Jake though, so the fact that they did shows that Pittsburgh really wanted him.
