Yes these are apples to oranges in comparison. I loved the butler addition just because of the experience he brought to the team. He had Championship game experience and he was defensive player of the year in his league! This guy is no comparison to Butler!
The NBA is actually higher on Lowe than they were on Butler.
Lowe will be on an NBA roster before Butler is.

The story was, Calipari went looking for greener pastures when he found out the UK boosters were going to withhold much of the NIL he wanted/ needed, but after watching the past week and a half, it wasn’t a Calipari thing, it was a NIL thing!

Let’s just all get used to this caliber of player being the norm, and we can forget about SEC/ NCAAT championships for the foreseeable future!

I've seen enough of this to know that usually when we get to years 2 and 3 and beyond, players for the most part tend to be what they are.

Every October we always hear player X looks so good in practice. And player Y got so much better.

Then the season hits and those players are what they are for the most part.

I expect Oweh to give us similar production to what he gave us this season. And for that part of the team, I think that's just fine. He's going to be a key contributor here.

But I just don't think it's wise to go into a season and think he'll be a much better player than he's been.
I disagree

He will only get better in Another year in Popes system

Why do people keep saying this

He was never a 40% three point shooter lol.
In ACC play.
“After coming off the bench early on in his freshman campaign, he earned a full-time starting role for the final 19 games of the 2023-24 season. As a starter, he averaged 13.1 points, 4.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 34.5 minutes per outing on shooting splits of 40.8/40.3/86.4.”

It was as a frosh then I’m assuming he was asked to do too much and started chucking up shots. Shot selection will be key part of his development

Yeah there's no doubt that played a bit of a role in the low numbers this year.

I expect the numbers to improve. The 3 point number anyways.

The 2 point number.....well that wasn't so great even as a FR when he wasn't talking the bulk.

This would be way more exciting to me if this was just a piece of the equation.

But we need way more talent than what we currently have IMO.

It's not super splashy, maybe a lower-case boom. But, we might have our lead guards already in Jasper Johnson and Acaden lewis.

A backcourt of Jasper, Lewis, Leland and Perry is pretty solid to me. Now we focus on getting some beef.

Imagine committing to play for UK and half the "fans" saying you suck.

I'm excited to see him play for UK.
I don't think people are saying he sux it's more of just not the level of player by the numbers you would expect.
Who knows Pope got him he might see a good hole to fill with his skill set.

No way he plays over Jasper or Lewis. I was hoping we would improve our roster in year 2. So far that’s not the case.
Neither of the three have stepped on the court yet.
Did you call Oweh all SEC this time last year?

I'm not really sure why people care so much about other fans either getting excited or not getting excited over particular players.

Everyone can have an opinion.

Lowe is here. He'll be playing this season. The numbers will tell the story on whether or not this was a good pickup or not.

But I can understand both sides. I can understand people being excited and hoping that in a new system and Pope has a great offensive system, that Lowe will flourish. I can also understand people looking at the portal, seeing the names go off the board and thinking ......we settled for this guy.

Pope is picking up a guy he believes his system will coach up, like Butler.

Lowe suffers a bit from bad shot syndrome. Cut down his midrange attempts and his shooting will vastly improve.

He is a great free throw shooter for his career, almost 90%, which suggests some latent ability from 3.

Butler in his one season at UK improved his offensive rating from 103 to 116. His TS% went from 49 all the way to 60. He went from terrible to very good.

I expect similar improvements for Lowe. He gets to the rim a good bit. He has some shooting potential shown by his freshman percent and free throw shooting. With better coaching, he can be a pretty good player.

He is no Braden Smith or anything like that. We don’t have access to info about how much we spend on NIL, how much is invested in returning players, or how much we have to spend on new prospects. Like Williams, Lowe was an underclassman. Pope might see value in younger players who are not quite stars yet who are asking for big bucks on the market.

We shall see. This whole NIL thing is the Wild West. I can’t really do anything but trust the coach at this point.

I respect what you're doing. You are trying to help your fellow Cat fan. I tried doing this too but now I'm just going to observe and hope for the best.

For me, it was more about proving we can get talent. Two top30 guys is nice to see. We weren't going to get 4 of the top10.. but we're now keeping pace with the best of them in the team rankings, and that matters to me maybe more than anything.

Can't judge Pope's recruiting until we see who else he gets in the late period but I have to admit this pickup seems less than impressive. If we want to get back to the days of Final Fours and Championships I think you have to do better than this, hope I'm wrong.
Judge? We have two transfers in the top 25… top 26
