Pope is picking up a guy he believes his system will coach up, like Butler.
Lowe suffers a bit from bad shot syndrome. Cut down his midrange attempts and his shooting will vastly improve.
He is a great free throw shooter for his career, almost 90%, which suggests some latent ability from 3.
Butler in his one season at UK improved his offensive rating from 103 to 116. His TS% went from 49 all the way to 60. He went from terrible to very good.
I expect similar improvements for Lowe. He gets to the rim a good bit. He has some shooting potential shown by his freshman percent and free throw shooting. With better coaching, he can be a pretty good player.
He is no Braden Smith or anything like that. We don’t have access to info about how much we spend on NIL, how much is invested in returning players, or how much we have to spend on new prospects. Like Williams, Lowe was an underclassman. Pope might see value in younger players who are not quite stars yet who are asking for big bucks on the market.
We shall see. This whole NIL thing is the Wild West. I can’t really do anything but trust the coach at this point.
