That’s awesome. Surprised we’re not hearing more about DL, but maybe they feel like they can develop some of the guys on the roster.

So we got a LB from Texas and Tennessee? That's pretty damn good. ...and a QB from FSU. I'm Impressed so far.

edit to add: looking over the committed portal transfers, we have many P4 guys. Some of which are sec. I still say OM is spending way more money than us, but don't matter.

I tip my cap to the coaching staff and NIL effort. We are upgrading. Keep going guys.

Why can we get LB but not DT ?
I would imagine the elite ones are expensive.

I've been telling you guys, we need to be recruiting and developing DL from inside the MS high school and JUCO ranks. This was a MAJOR mistake Lebby made when he got here, by not trying everything to keep guys like Avery Sledge, Khalid Moore, Caleb Bryant, Jonathan Davis, Jacarius Clayton, and also Arnett for not keeping Jevon Banks the year before that. Like most MS players these guys are raw and often develop once they get into the weight room. We have ZERO forethought on this and we act like this hasn't been our blueprint for the whole modern era. For some reason we think if they don't start as freshmen, they suck and we should send them packing.

Yeah, we won't be elite unless we get a Fletcher Cox or Jeffrey Simmons.....but development is how we keep our DL average to good, consistently. And again, the 5 star guys are expensive.

Just wait until we have to face all these mother 17ers next August in Hattiesburg, year or so stronger and bigger....and hungry for a piece of our asss. I just hope they don't get John Lewis. Ty Cooper went to Tulane so we won't have to deal with him.

Did both of them stay with their teams through the playoffs? Some teams make them leave others don't.

The Texas guy didn't play anyway so I'm sure he's gone. Looks like the Tennessee guy is a real contribute for them. Sucks for them if he's not playing in the playoffs. But if they make the championship game and he plays, he wouldn't be finished until almost a week after spring classes begin at MSU.

Arguably our best portal pickup to date. Now we need to get the Whitson kid from Coastal (barring some major personality flaws), and the Blay kid from La Tech to cover interior DL.
Stretch goal is adding Barnes from FIU. Coupled with what we have, that would give you a front 7 with a shot at 5-6 wins.

I was listening to the 247 college podcast and they had said some players were going to stay and play but leave after the playoffs for their new school. I have no idea of the timing but they said it could be done but rumors are encouraged, correct?

But Whimper and Spark did a whole segment on how we couldn’t close on him and he would definitely be signing with Auburn

We're going to a 2-5-4 defense. ** Seriously, our LB group is suddenly looking pretty good and deep. With glaring holes at interior DL. Hopefully we get a couple of good DT soon.
Hopefully these new guys will be calling buddies to follow.

Now now...let's not forget those juco guys we got. Apparently that or some directional school is the only place we look for DL

If we go into fall camp depending on Dinkins and Trevion Williams again I'm going to have a stroke.

One can't stay healthy and who knows if he is really recovered now. The other didn't really impress. Was it Jones or Kpaka that played better late in the season?
Behind that no proven depth.

What was the deal with Anderson last season? Injured or didn't fit the scheme. He seemed to have some moments in 2023.

How do you know he didn’t? You constantly make blanket statements as though they are fact while you have zero knowledge of the player/coach discussion. Your hatred of Lebby has no boundaries. What do you do for a living to make you an expert in all aspects of college football?

The thing about LB is that if you have a great DL then you can get by with average LB’s. Look at the draft, DL and CB mostly go in the first round. Not many Micah Parsons out there and even he can’t make up for a crappy line, plus he’s capable of playing DE. I hope this isn’t a philosophy and instead just a case of everybody knowing how valuable DL is and those guys being very expensive and tough to get.

Shut up, you’ve been I agree DL development is where it’s at for State. It’s why I am so perplexed at all the haters. Juco and 3 star raw HS players are what built a lot of States DL and they have added a lot of both in the last year or so.
It would be nice to get another 5 star like Jones or Simmons but that is going to take such a large portion of our NIL these days and may not be an option many years.

I agree developmental may be our path as we have lots of raw HS talent but with all the GOD given abilities that can be developed but the hit ratio is very low on them. Sign lots of cheap ones just as they are doing and discard as they see fit. Lots of these types will come and go but some will hit worrying over specific ones like the OP sounds odd to me because:

We are getting plenty of those developmental types. Plus, those JUCOs are a lot more attractive since they may get four years to play.

Then there is still a lot to happen in the portal. Guys will still be entering portal for about a week after their bowl game. We have no idea if there are any plans in place for one or more of those.

I think adding one proven DL to go with what’s here and committed now could be a good group but I am concerned for sure but it’s way too early to panic for next year, last year was already a dumpster fire.
