All I can say was I did not see it but if this is hurting ED feelings so badly call the NCHSAA and make a formal complaint then. If you feel what he did was so outlandish and disrespectful. Call the freaking commissioner. What I can say is I highly doubt that Clark was trying to start anything with Holley. He is a great man and coach and he has done a lot for those kids.

He was not starting anything with Holley. They are both great coaches who respect each other and both are in rebuilding modes. That showed for both teams during the game. There was never any threat to anyone that necessitated officers, but they were being proactive to ensure that. I'm don't root for either, but have friends and family with both and went to this game because it was the only conference rivalry game this week. Players and coaches on both teams seem to be giving all they got and that's all a fan can ask for. With that said, it's easy to see why coach Clark has a though task ahead of him because JK had very little support there. That was disappointing to see for me, so I know it had to be for players and coaches. I've read some on here complaining about all sorts of things, from players to coaches, lifting, participation, and schemes. But, the biggest problem is support, from the ground up. How can parents and family members not show up to a rivalry game like that? Things like that can cause frustration for those putting in long hours to improve, both players and coaches. JK has a solid group of young kids and a darn good coach and will be back to being good again soon, in my opinion. But, it will be because those inside the lines make it happen, not the fairweather fans who only want to show up after the works been done. That said, I'm ready for my Horses and WRH to get it on.. should be a classic!

no dog in this fight but to call j.k. coaching staff classless is a stretch.
coach clark has shown nothing but class.....and you do realize the avants are on staff. I would like to find one person that would ever call them classless. J.k. is very fortunate to have the staff they have. all will be right in the world again next year. You heard it here 1st.

LHS grad, I didn't think it did. Sounds like we have the same opinion of Clark and the Avents. All of them have plenty of class. And I agree with you, JK will be fine under that leadership. It's hard to stay on top forever, everyone has down periods. My biggest point is that true fans and supporters don't abandon ship when times are tough. in fact, that's when they're needed the most.

I don’t think anyone has abandoned ship and I don’t think we have any fair weather JK fans . Away games are hard to make sometimes even when they aren’t that far away. Also a busy time of the year for a lot of people.

So we can agree it should have been a penalty for illegal touching and should have resulted in a five yard penalty from the original line of scrimmage, replay the down, correct?

Spoke with someone today at the rec football games where I was watching a family member play who was very close to the events. He said that the official on the JK sideline moved the chain crew in error and it appeared to him that the JK staff knew they needed to get a play off quickly because they knew it was a penalty. The way he made it sound that was the only time the entire game the Tigers used that type of offense meaning to go no huddle and line up over the ball. This all happened when the white hat was having a conference with two other officials at which time they dropped the flag and enforced the penalty. The guy I spoke with said the Ipad was never used and that the referees used the information still on the scoreboard that showed where the ball was originally set. Again, I wasn't there so I do not know.

As far as the deputies, I was told there was someone on the JK sideline causing a fuss yelling at the refs and acting up during all this and they simply came out to get between him and the officials. If I remember correctly, the same type thing happened last year at a JK game when a fan ran out on the field. Based on what I was told, this was not a coach but a players dad or something. There was never a confrontation between Coach Clark and Coach Holley nor the threat of one.

Again, I was in Spiveys Corner so I don't know, but my source was very close to what was going on so take it for what its worth.
The flag should have been thrown during the play. The refs huddled up and talked about it for 1-2 minutes then threw a flag. All while the referee on the JK sideline has let the chain crew move and get setup. The referees had no way of telling where the previous spot was. How many times is a scoreboard actually correct with the exact spot and yards to go? So the referee on ED sideline looks at their iPad which is not allowed and that’s how they determine the spot. Clark was upset because the officials knew they messed up and they really could not fix their mess up until they looked at the iPad to determine the spot. Referee from ED sideline runs over and talks to other referees and they move back the chains after that. If Clark were causing such a big scene the way others are saying he would have been flagged automatically but due to the fact he was right and had a reason to be upset the refs could not flag him because they had screwed up and they knew it.

Makes no difference to me one way or the other. I am only relaying what I was told when I asked about it on Saturday.

What I do know and has been confirmed by other posters on here is that it was in fact a penalty and should have been called at the time it happened. It has also been confirmed that there was no impending altercation between the head coaches. I also have good reason to believe that the deputies did not come on the field because of any actions by the JK head coach or other members of the coaching staff but by someone else on the JK sideline who was yelling and cursing at the officials and ED school administrators.

I thought the job of the officiating crew is to get the call right? I think it was a good thing for them to conference, discuss what happened and get it corrected. If there was a question on where to spot the ball once the penalty had been enforced, then what is the best route to go? Is it ask the chain gang? How about from memory? Maybe check the scoreboard? I was told the Ipad never came into play.

Sounds like to me its all been blown way out of proportion by posters from both schools on a message board.

Beats the heck out of me, I don't live there. I would guess the same thing most do in other areas of Duplin County but no one in Wallace or Beulaville is making excuses why their followers do not attend games.

If I am not at a game, I prefer being on the back porch watching the grandkids, at a nice restaurant or maybe being at the coast.
