The days of me stressing on whether a top60/100 High School kids comes here are long, long gone. The portal and NIL stuff have killed that more than ever unless you are talking about a top-top prep player.
Agreed, it's almost in "who cares" territory. By the time he would develop as a true asset to the team he already will have transferred. Plus freshmen recruiting is no longer the primary or most effective way to get talent.

Understandable and not worth stressing it but this is a kid we should want and try to close now.

There were 2 freshmen PGs in a similar recruit range as this kid last year who started for Nova and Marquette and were All-Big East players.

Not saying this kid will be Nigel James or Acaden Lewis but Seton Hall doesn't get many top 60 kids.....ever. They got Hines, Whitehead and Angel and all were studs and impact players in Year 1.

I get it. And on paper of course I’d be interested based on the ranking, although the list of schools involved does give me some pause.

Agree. Still would be nice if we got him.
We are in a battle to get a player from St Bonaventure? If we lose to St B’s, what does this tell you?
Not much really. I would like to get him for sure, but is he going to play as a freshman here next season, who knows. Also, Bonnies may have more PT to offer and if he does well can move up and demand a bag. And there is the Wojnarowski factor as noted above.

This is a battle I fully expect Sha to win unless Prov throws a bag at him. But it doesn’t seem they are a threat
Providence is hunting even bigger game. They have like 8 visits lined up with a combination of 5-stars and high 4 stars. This is why I want Sha to wrap Tyndale up before the schools with more money start to lose their top picks and turn their focus on Tyndale. Right now this kid is in our price range, is good enough to play as a freshman and there are still enough top PGs available who are taking the attention from the schools we can't compete with.

King Gibson (5*, #15), Naz Anderson(5*, #10) and Plainfield's Micah Gordon (4*, #31) are all PGs scheduled to visit Providence and many other teams with real RevShare/NIL budgets. If Providence misses on those 3 above, we'll lose any hope of getting Tyndale.

You make good points, but if we “wrap up” Tyndale and Providence loses out on their top targets wouldn’t the Friars still come after him?

There's always a possibility that contracts are broken but the majority of top HS kids who commit during their Senior seasons honor their commitments unless there are coaching changes.
Yea it seems to be playing out that way with prep kids who commit. Which is good if we get the verbal.

Why my excitement isn’t at the levels of the past is that I would expect him to be a minimal contributor year 1, especially considering the schools that are supposedly in his final group.

And then we have to hang onto him after year 1, which hasn’t been an easy task for anyone who has options.

Hodgson is absolutely killing it up there on the recruiting front. If the Ws off the court translate to Ws on the court that guy is going to rule that city with a that lunatic fan base starved post-English and after Cooley left them how he did.

Althougj the historical trend with the Friars - at leasr in my lifetime - is that their best coaches leave once they’ve had a certain level of success. Which only adds to the complex those fans have - like the NE/Boston thing on steroids.

Adrian Wojnarowski is running the show there now with his NBA contacts and under the table deals
Woj has been up there for a while though and it hasn’t translated. And that was a successful mid major under Schmidt before Woj got there.

My concern wouldn’t be throwing a “bag” at this kid. They are spending those dollars on bigger fish or more proven commodities.

The concern would be Hodgson recruiting versus Sha recruiting.

Valid thoughts. Sha has not shown any ability to keep players more than 1 year. We have to keep trying though. Everyone else in the BE still takes and develops quality freshman who contribute multiple years. Freshman are much cheaper than older transfers and this is an opportunity to get a really good one at a premium position.

The kid has all the qualities you want. He is a leader, a winner at the highest levels, he's strong and quick, gets teammates involved and plays with swagger. He's a pest defensively. He has everything Budd Clark has with a higher ceiling.

I'd give him a 2-year deal. I think he'd play a lot as a freshman and start by year 2. Micah Gordon is the PG I hoped we had a chance at but he's obviously above our paygrade with visits scheduled with Creighton, UConn, Providence, Auburn, Tennessee, West Virginia & UCLA. Tyndale has some similar traits as Gordon and is also being pursued by some of the same schools. He's in our ballpark right now and we have his attention. Strike now.

Whatever Tyndale may lack in sheer size, he makes up for with quickness, compact strength, swagger, and toughness. It may be a cliché, but you’re not going to find many players with more heart and that’s why he has established such a distinct pedigree for winning, both with the Canadian national team as well as at Montverde Academy.

Offensively, he’s a constant threat to get a piece of the paint. He attacks with speed in the open floor, has the tight and creative handle to breakdown even set defenders, an excellent left hand, and understands how to leverage his frame by playing lower to the ground than anyone else. He can create for his teammates when he’s in attack mode, but has simultaneously proven he can manage a game and take care of the basketball. He shows no fear going right at opposing rim protectors, but can be limited as a traffic finisher (39% in EYBL). He’s a more than capable shooter off the dribble, but ultimately has to make a lot of tough ones because of his size (25% 3pt in EYBL, 24% in FIBA, and 34% in EYBL Scholastic).

Defensively, he can also really set the tone and put a lot of pressure on opposing handlers. He’s able to pick-up for the length of the court, get underneath bigger guards, and over top of ball-screens, often forcing turnovers or taking them out of their offense.

The defensive end of the floor is actually a good microcosm for his total impact. There’s no denying that his size will be targeted with increased frequency at subsequent levels, but right now, he does his best to dictate the possession himself, and at this stage, is often successful.

That they gave him MORE $
i mean yeah, but some schools just don't want to allocate money to freshman. for some schools is about ability to spend, for some its willingness to spend, or not part of the plan. it tells you a lot less than spending on top tier portal players

Has any recruitment of a player we wanted in the past come down to us and St Bonaventure? I can’t recall that offhand.
