Herring is done with HS wrestling, more likely he will wrestle opens while training at NLWC.
Busted. I do it for the same reason I'm good at ping pong....the chicks. Real talk...I was trying to work ubiquitous into the rotation, damnit.
Have to agree with you. David will not win a Natty this year, but in a year or two, he may have a real shot.Jax says he will redshirt or gray shirt....DT would be making a mistake blowing a year of eligibility for him if he runs him out this year in my opinion, but I don't think he's going to go until next season
At this point "a real shot" means being within 40 points of PSUHave to agree with you. David will not win a Natty this year, but in a year or two, he may have a real shot.
Which will put him 60 points ahead of Iowa.At this point "a real shot" means being within 40 points of PSU
If he's the best at his weight then have him go. What other sport sits their better athlete's.Have to agree with you. David will not win a Natty this year, but in a year or two, he may have a real shot.
Jax states that he will either be "greyshirting" or "redshirting". I don't think either of those means he is startingIf he's the best at his weight then have him go. What other sport sits their better athlete's.
If he doesn't enroll, then he's not their best athlete at any weight. If he's the best at his weight then have him go. What other sport sits their better athlete's.
Didn't I basically just say that? Hire your own writersIf he doesn't enroll, then he's not their best athlete at any weight.
Nope. Not as long as we have Cael and Staff. Will ALWAYS be the best program in the entire worldHave to agree with you. David will not win a Natty this year, but in a year or two, he may have a real shot.
I hope he does. 133 was already my favorite weight class with title contenders Byrd, Blaze, Davino, Larkin, and Ayala, plus other guys who are pretty damn good in Van Dee, Frost, Fugitt, and Knox. Add Jax (and Seidel?) into that mix and nationals is going to be a free-for-all this year. BRING IT ON!Going to wrestle, enrolled and ready to go according to DT. Will at least get 5 matches. This tells me David thinks he can challenge for a title this year or set the tone for next year with a high finish.
DT is probably watching the Nagao injury thinking PSU is taking a zero at 141 while Vega could win, so he can strike, but only with 10 (at least) AA level guys, which Ronnie Ramirez wasn't. I don't think it's the best thing for Jax to wrestle this year given he's coming for 2nd semester into a stacked hornet's nest of a weight, but I admire the aggressive attitude. Pull no punches.Let’s be very generous PSU-Ok st nationals points
125 push
133 push
141 Ok State +8
149 PSU +12
157 push
165 PSU +4
174 PSU +8
184 PSU +4
197 PSU +8
285 Ok State +6
Ok St has literally 0 chance of beating PSU.
Peterson is a 5th-year Sr whose best finish is R12. I would say 'could' rather than 'should'.Peterson
Ayala
caliendo
Kennedy
edene
ferrari
Kueter
that is 7 that should AA for them
Cruz- Ryder Block (who has beat a couple of AAs already this season) and Bailey (who I admit looks bad right now)
With those three remaining.... Iowa should have 7-8 AA
I have caliendo and ayala as possible finalists (and while I think Keuter is a long shot... he could be)
Ferrari just dont have enough offense in my opinion but his defense is elite and therefore has a chance to upset anyone!
Not questioning your assessment of DTs thought, but in my mind, going from Nagao to Davis points the needle up for PSU, if anything.DT is probably watching the Nagao injury thinking PSU is taking a zero at 141 while Vega could win, so he can strike, but only with 10 (at least) AA level guys, which Ronnie Ramirez wasn't. Peterson was always fantastic at one matches. His issue was always at NCAAs in a tournament. With 6 AAs returning from last year and Bouzakis and Volk entering the thing, he's still a could rather than should.Peterson is a 5th-year Sr whose best finish is R12. I would say 'could' rather than 'should'.
I also don't think Ayala is a lock. 133 was probably the weakest weight last year. The addition of Crookham, Davino, Blaze, Larkin, and Jax (?) makes it one of the toughest this year.
Edene is a wildcard. Through his 1st 7 D1 matches, he looks good, but I need to see more. It appears that he will need to win a lot of 1-TD matches to reach AA.
David Taylor is not afraid to listen to other viewpoints. He made changes in his wrestling approach over time. I expect he will always push to win and not duck challenges. I hope he gives us tough battles in years to come. It's good for wrestling as a whole and we will still have great recruiting classes. What a great time to be a fan!Honestly, David in all likelihood will always think he can win with his best lineup, he thought that last year as well.
Interesting thought though, the option to "punt" year one did exist for David. Hamiti, Hendrickson and Plott all had redshirts.
If this was their lineup this year:
Spratley
Jax
Vega
Jamison/Swiderski
Robideau
Dee
Hamiti
Plott
Merrill
Hendrickson
Oh yeah ... now we're talking.
Is Ayala an AA this year? Forget about the Iowa senior decline, even at his peak level, if Crookham gets back for nationals and Jax goes for OSU and Seidel for VT, then you have Byrd, Crookham, Blaze, Jax, Davino, and Larkin, who are all world class wrestlers with significantly better pedigree than Ayala. Seidel just tech'd Shawver and pinned Ortega, Frost beat Ayala soundly at Cy-Hawk, and there are still guys like Van Dee & Fugitt battling for AA scraps as well. It's amazing to think a healthy, peak Ayala isn't a shoo-in for at least an AA spot, but that's what 133 is this year. I'm already excited for 133 at nationals this year.Iowa will have probably 6 AAs, maybe 5. They don't generally push more than 6 up onto the podium.
Ayala, Caliendo, Kennedy, Ferrari, Endene and probably Kueter. Out of that group 1 finalist, maybe.
Short of physically breaking down I figure a 2 time runner-up is a decent bet to AA. I don’t think he makes his 3rd finals though. Is Ayala an AA this year? It looks like the NCAA consolation matches at 133 will be must see TV this year.Is Ayala an AA this year? James Franklin started Koa Farmer over Micah Parsons … so there’s that ?!If he's the best at his weight then have him go. What other sport sits their better athlete's.
I just have a hard time seeing them wrestle Jax in a year that they simply can't compete for the title and waste a year of eligibility. They have a real shot starting in 2028. At least real in the sense PSU won't likely be a 50 point favorite. I'd love to see it though,I just want to see him wrestle in college already.Well Jax is saying grey or redshirt. While DT said today he wants to get him his 5 dates and then assess where he is at.
Reading between the lines, after Jax goes 5-0, during conference duals nonetheless (most likely), while taking those 5 matches from the other wrestler who needs those January matches.. I think DT puts on the full court press to start him this year.
Some have pointed out Jax's 15+ points are most likely a huge difference maker for OSU in the team race, and maintaining an upward trend from last year's performance.
If he is seriously considering sending Jax out into the 133 meat grinder I would expect the 5th match to be against Ayala. That would tell you fairly definitively whether he was ready to compete for a title.I just have a hard time seeing them wrestle Jax in a year that they simply can't compete for the title and waste a year of eligibility. Anyone want to bet right now Jax takes out Ayala? I'm on that train. The bout sheet on Trackwrestling concurs, Jax is going today. He's got 5 dates he can use without burning his redshirt though. So apparently DT is going to go ahead and forfeit a season by not redshirting Jax. Stupid. Enjoy that 2nd place trophy in Cleveland Magic Man, now you only have 3 years left to go for a championship...
watching on espn+... meet is half over... oSU has won every bout... started at 57 or 65The bout sheet on Trackwrestling concurs, Jax is going today. He's got 5 dates he can use without burning his redshirt though.
