Just seems like a waste to burn the shirt for what? 3rd place or 2nd? 15 more points? I don't get it

If Jax goes I think we do get a Blaze vs Jax final. Super tough weight. I can see Davino giving Jax a super tough match. Jax lets people in on his legs and Davino will absolutely attack. Finishing is a different story though. Byrd is great and can repeat but I don’t think he looks quite as good as he did last year. At this point I don’t Ayala even gets on the podium

I like a strong OSU. I like a strong ISU. The BIG conference can't hold all of the really good teams if college wrestling is sustainable imo. I really want a strong ASU to go with the other two. Plus I would root for Iran against Iowa ( I mean it is less dangerous). I do respect Iowa's tradition and huge fan base. I don't like anything about tOSU. The best thing about this year is getting the chance to see Tan Tom crushed after his great program is pistol whipped on a cold night in Feb.
V tech is going to be a coming program, if they can keep all their recruits.

Team culture?

I know that sounds weak, but some locker rooms need their coaches/front offices to show they're trying to win.

Kinda like the baseball team that's 15 games out, yet trades its best prospect for a washed up reliever.

But yeah, it's dumb.

I just need to see him against some elite competition. Not doubting his talent but almost 2 years away from competition is a long time. He might not of lost a step but I need to see it first

Sadly I doubt if he can avoid injury. It is somewhat like Aaron in that he is just snake bit. I'm pulling for him to stay healthy and get to compete. He is a beast!

You can't hurt your knees if ain't got none. Watching Crookham wrestle it looks as though he had the doc's remove everything, i have no idea how his knees are that rubbery. Every time someone gets in on his legs he puts himself in such a position that I cringe and he gets out and gets the take down.

Crookham gets Larkin in the last dual of the year.

Berginc and Mougalian earlier, but they're a step back from that level.

Oddly, I feel the opposite. I may’ve tried to dislike DT’s defection, but it’s not taking. Seems strange to be pulling for them in all bouts and duals against non-Lions--especially Hawks--but I will.
Yeah, I really can’t fault DT’s leaving for a high-paying, once-in-a-lifetime job offer. Have other people not left their jobs before? And if he asked his friends and coworkers to go with him, isn’t that just what people do? They recruit from among their friends and acquaintances?

I do not remember hearing what is the unwritten rule that DT allegedly violated. If somebody can manage to articulate a rule, I am confident that we can find that the rule has been broken by people that the articulating person likes.

Darn. I just realized that it is possible to state a rule to be broken only by whomever we want.

Rule: don’t make me dislike you. 😀

No one here knows what DT agreed to to get Jax to come to Ok State. Maybe Jax insisted that he be able to compete for a starting spot immediately. Not every kid wants to be in college for 8 years ... and my bet is Jax cares a lot more about becoming an Olympic and Sr. World Champ than he does a 4x NCAA Champ. I'm sure he believes he can win NCAA's this year anyway.

I agree with all of this. It seems most likely to me that (1) college wrestling is a stepping stone to worlds and Olympic Gold in Jax's mind and (2) he believes he can win now, this year. Why not give it a go?

3rd place last year dictates 2nd place this year, as evidence the momentum is increasing. I think all lineup decisions are going to be rationalized to support this end.

Also Vega, Robideau and Lockett are all true freshman going right away and having a lot of success it makes some sense to keep Jax on the same timeline as those guys. Ronnie Ramirez probably isn’t a full sized 33 yet and could benefit from a redshirt and most people believe this will be the only year Jax could hold 33.

Allegedly/rumorly:

1) Publicly criticized J'Den Cox regarding his world team performance after having lost to him to make the USA World team.

2) Kept injury secret to prevent Bo Nickel (a NLWC teammate) from his best chance of making Sr World/Olympic team;

3) Leaked failed ADHD drug use protocol of Aaron Brooks (a NLWC teammate) after losing to him when attempting to make Sr World/Olympic team.

4) When leaving NLWC rapidly after loss to Aaron Brooks, disloyally recruiting from within the PSU/NLWC family (with the reasonable exclusion of his brother-in-law Jimmy Kennedy).

In other words, the unwritten rule to be a good sport and selfless, loyal, and all around good teammate.

Thanks 98 pounder! I had forgotten about (1) and (2) and somehow had not heard (3). In totality, those are pretty bad actually. (4) is really the only one I don’t have much trouble with. OK, I’m now officially a non-supporter of DT. 👍

I will still root for Ok State wrestlers over tOSU's and Iowa's, because I am largely rooting for wrestling style. It also helps that a friend is over-the-top with tOSU; and, one of my uncles was a Oklahoma A&M alum.

IIRC the issue with (4) was Taylor doing it behind Cael's back, not bothering with a courtesy heads-up.

Ramirez has wrestled 5 duals plus the Cougar Clash. Unless he was unattached in the tournament, he's burned his shirt already.

Publicly criticizing J'Den didn't sit well with me at the time nor now. This was David's actual quote: “Cox had the golden goose served on the Golden platter to be WC w/ that draw. He is too talented to have no fight down 6-1. Makes me sick”. I remember hoping that David would come out with a public apology regarding his comments, but he never did.

I am really looking forward to watching Jax compete. His "Funky Town" style makes for exciting matches. A potential Jax/Marcus match is so intriguing to me. The clash of their styles makes for a very unpredictable match. In folk style they met way back in November of 2023 at the Clarion Open with Marcus winning a great match 9-4 w/1:44 in Riding time. Like others have said, 133 is going to be a meat grinder this year. NCAA seeding will be important. I can foresee several AA-caliber wrestlers at 133 not being an AA.

Selfish, impatient, chomping-at-the-bit. I’m all three. I want Jax now! I want as many Jax/Blaze/Davino bouts as I can get, be it folk or free. Navigating NIL/portal times in a violent sport rife with injury (and without PSU-type depth), I don’t see DT withholding a healthy, instantly title-contending Jax from what I gotta bet is the kid’s desire. Extra NIL or not, no one ever convinces me Jax wants to wait. And with talent this elite, excellent health, and a high school senior’s vision quest to shock the world, I don’t think you make him.

I was never a huge DT fan. Always liked Ruth more. I really quit liking him after the above. Having said all of that I rooted like hell for him at World's and the Olympics.

A lot of people here are saying that they think that it’s Jax pushing to wrestle this year.

At least relatively recently on Basch and The Brain, though, Willie was insinuating quite the opposite: where Taylor was pushing for it, and Jax was leaning towards a gray or redshirt. Who knows if that was the case or not things have changed, though…

One (unbiased) could argue first, that despite the late start, Jax still has a shot at winning it all. Maybe 10-20% but it's real. Secondly, in the age of 30 scholys, NIL and the portal, whats the real value of Jax's 5th year to OSU? It could very well be negligable. Sure OSU isn't challenging this year, but Jax could make the difference between a 5th or worse vs a 3rd team placement. That's a big deal for DT.

I would think that Jax is yet another huge recruiting tool, both individually and as others have noted, as part of showing real progress toward their ultimate goal.
Make believers of others.

I saw a post on Facebook where many were commenting that Jax would absolutely win the national championship. I think that people need to pump the brakes just a tad. I have followed all of Jax' career, and nothing he would accomplish would surprise me. The sky is the limit. However, all he did last night is dominate a below average D1 backup. 133 is absolutely loaded, with our without Jax and/or Seidel. For entertainment value, I'd love for both of them to be added to the mix. However, DT sure seemed to be saying that he was going to use his 5 appearances. Now, obviously, depending on what Jax wants, that could change after seeing his results. It is going to be interesting, and this is the weight I'm most looking forward to watching.

I think Jax 'could' meet both Frost and Ayala with his remaining 4 dates. If he smashes both (I think he will), he and DT will then have a wrestleoff to determine if his shirt gets pulled. DT wins that one.

In the age of NIL, a year “saved” is potentially a year for another school. Wrestling is an individual sport. Not hard to imagine a world level guy being more interested in competing now to win a national title vs sitting for a perceived better chance of winning a team title down the road. Athletes have all the power now. Jax ain’t doing nothing he doesn’t sign up to do.
