Absolutely brilliant post, mate, seriously, brought tears to my eyes.
Good, glad I could help. If you need anymore, I am here all day, everyday.

You can average 85 per game all you want in the regular season (how did Alabama end up), when you get into the tournament and face teams that are not soft, you have to be able to win by getting stops and getting rebounds. Florida along with Alabama was in the top 10 (Bama 1st / UF 4th), but Florida won by scoring 65. Bama lost because they could only score 65 and couldn't guard a fence post as a collective team. Kind of ironic they both scored 65 points in their final game. Florida could defend Alabama couldn't. Video game #s are fun to watch, but at the end of the day, if you want to WIN, you have to be able to do the basics very well, rebound and defend.
What is your goal ? Sweet 16, Elite 8 ? if so, high scoring non defending / rebounding teams are exactly for you.

Is Pope still after Alvaro Foulgerais? Is he the 2nd superstar? His bio on Google talked about KY was a possible place for him to transfer to. Does getting Quaintance have an impact on Foulgerais? He seems to be a better shooter than JQ.
Have no idea.
Seems like it would be a tough sell to AF now

I want an athletic, defensive minded big as well, who wouldn't, though he very well may never play at UK, with this rehab, and it'll be another lost year, of what could have been.

He and his father both said that he is expected to be ready by the start of the regular season. Either you're too obtuse to read or you are just purposely spreading disinformation. The rhetoric around him not playing is a fantasy of yours.

You still have to take the shot if your Pope.
Don't be afraid to fail.
Taking Alvaro over JQ would be something a coach who's worried about his job would do.
Play it safe and win enough games to stay off the hot seat.

Just some research I took 5 minutes to gather in regards to people wanting shooters, shooters, and shooters, no rebounders/ defenders.
When it gets nutt cutting time :

2025 tournament -
Houston 69 Tenn. 50 / Auburn 70 Mich St 64 / Florida 79 Auburn 73 / Houston 70 Duke 67 / Florida 65 Houston 63

2024 - Duke 54 Houston 51 / UCONN 77 Illinois 52 / Purdue 72 Tenn 66 / NC State 76 Duke 64 / Purdue 63 NC State 50 / UCONN 82 Bama 72 / UCONN 75 Purdue 60

2023 - FAU 79 Kansas 76 / UCONN 82 Gonzaga 54 / SD State 57 Creighton 56 / SD State 72 FAU 71 / UCONN 72 Miami 59 / UCONN 76 SD State 59.

2022 - Houston 72 Arizona 60 / St. Peters 67 Purdue 64 / UNC 73 UCLA 66 / Kansas 66 Providence 61 / Miami 70 Iowa St. 56 / Nova 50 Houston 44 / Duke 78 Arkansas 69 / Kansas 76 Miami 50 / UNC 69 St. Peters 49 / Kansas 81 Nova 65 / Kansas 72 UNC 69.

2025 Championship game 65-63 / 2024 - 75-60 / 2023 - 76-59 / 2022 - 72-69. Last 4 championships the most points scored is 76, with the winning score averaging 72. The losing scores was 63,60,59, and 69, average score for the losing team, 63. Like I said, when you get to the end of the road, you had better be able to defend and rebound. The 95-90 type scores do not happen in the end. Defending, rebounding, protecting the ball, and playing tough, smart basketball wins, you will not have to score 85-90 to win, but if you give up 85-90, chances are you are collecting that 2nd place trophy and free T-shirt watching the other team cut down the nets.

If Garrison gets his maturity in line and listens to the coaching staff, he’s an NBA player. The size and natural ability is there.
I respect your opinion but disagree. I don’t think he has anything special. He doesn’t do anything well. He can’t shoot, pass or dribble. He can’t rebound, can’t really defend the rim, really nothing. I hate to say that about a player but I just don’t see much but a big body.

I think Garrison could be a stud. The problem with Garrison is his immaturity, he isn’t willing yet to put the work in to be the man and his basketball IQ is still behind. I didn’t see him slide over to stop the ball a single time all year. No such thing as help defense for him and he doesn’t battle for rebounds. If he could just improve in those areas, he could be a beast.

You know what usually cures immaturity? Time.

Not always, but often.

Garrison just finished his Sophomore year. Players often make their biggest jumps between their Sophomore and Junior years. Not always, but often.

I’m hoping that happens for BG.

Where are all of the posters who had less than flattering things to post about Pope just a week ago? If you had the courage to criticize him then, why not show the same courage to post that you were wrong to criticize him. It seems that Pope actually has a plan when it comes to the portal that doesn't include grabbing every big-name warm body that is available without considering if they are a fit for his coaching strategy.

Yeah, we've seen this play out before, some of you are just so gullible. Hopefully, it plays out that way.

Are you still doubting Pope? I think Pope is demonstrating that he gets who he wants and if he doesn't get them, it is likely because there is an imbalance between their asking price and their value.

Meh. He didn’t want to be part of Pope’s program a year ago. Other than for💰, why has Quaintance now changed his mind? I would like to see a UK roster loaded with dudes who want to win games and rings rather than full of dudes who want the phattest NIL deal. Maybe I’m the only one…

"We always liked Kentucky," Haminn Quaintance said. "He was committed there before John Calipari left for Arkansas, which is the reason we ended up at Arizona State. We were always hoping they'd come back around and recruit him. It didn't make sense for Coach Pope last time, trying to take on one of Cal's guys, but this time it really felt like he wanted him to be there."

💯 Disliked the Calipari hire and his player-first program from the word go, and don’t care for this generation of NIL mercenaries either. Charles Hurt, Mashburn, Davender, Macy, Farmer, Pope, Feldhaus, Magloire… Who’s to say whether those guys did or didn’t get money under the table. But all those cats played hard, tried to win every game they played, and took pride in the name on the front of the jersey they wore. Same can be said of non-Cat collegians like Ewing, Robinson, Jordan, Glen Robinson, jagoff Laettner, Pearl Washington, Curry et al.

Not so much anymore.

Old enough to have played 4 years of college basketball when we didn’t want to be friends with our opponent, where we went to class the next morning after getting back from a road game, and when we fought like hell for 4 years because we appreciated you only get to live those years once. I’m that old. 👍

I believe once healthy and into the rhythm of the team. Production will succeed Amari.

Ideal replacement for amari when healthy. This is a recruiting achievement. Gladly eating crow. Keep it going.
At least pope shows he can recruit top HS prospects now (JQ should be treated as a HS prospect with 1 year college experience)

You're right. He ended up shooting like 62%. Surprisingly, BG was much worse. I look for BG and JQ to both improve on those numbers next year. Neither player has bad form. It's a concentration thing they just need to work on.
Butler greatly improves on FT line during season. It is likely Kerr teaches Butler how to make FT

We need Lowe to teach other teammates about making FT

Right where he belongs. Wishing him a speedy recovery and can't wait to see him on the court at Rupp. Big time addition to the front court. His rim protection and athleticism is needed.

Top5 roster in talent.
And likely a top10 coach (and maybe higher).

Not many teams can say that. Were gonna be really good next year.

Id still like to see a true center, even if it's more of a role player. But that's about it. Just one more bench piece and were all set by mid April. And hopefully Pope can now focus a bit on recruiting for 2026 and beyond.
We would probably be looking at a non-role player if we are looking for another center.

Once JQ is online the available PT will be about zero.

Splinter LaPew of the Bench Mob is the realistic option but if Pope can Jedi mind trick some long and skilled lad in here then the more the merrier.
