JCA/NAZ Thoughts

Now that the NAZ facilities and IHSA pairing issue discussions have been beaten to a pulp, what is the thinking among the Edgy Board members as to how this game is going to play out? Lot's of offense, defense? Spread attack by NAZ? "Air Sharp" by JCA? Weather should be no factor.

Final predictions?

JCA in a close one...defense comes up big. Will not be the kind of game from the regular season. Will be more like last years game at NAZ. IMO

24-21 final. The winner? Who knows.

Can JCA LBs cover the flats? Can J. Love make them miss? Should be a great game, unfortunately I'll be in DeKalb, but this and LA-HF look to be GOTW. Wish I could be there too.

Were you just reading my texts to a Naz parent? I said a very similar thing not more than a half hour ago. This should be a great game and I'm pulling for Naz to win, but more so want to see all the boys come away from this game with valuable life lessons and healthy! As I called the first game JCA-3.

jwarigaku! Amazing indeed. We are all thinking similarly I guess. There will be lessons for sure...for all of us!

I'm going to adopt Godfather's and TPF's approach in my game analysis and carry the Naz 2nd half performance in Week 7 forward. Let's see. Naz outscored JCA 35-7. Therefore, the final this week will be Naz 70 JCA 14. Plus, with this approach, no one can accuse me of having an anti-Naz agenda, and we can all coexist in a peaceful, Naz-centric utopia.

Her does. Will be interesting for JCA as they have both Davis and Bates back at full strength for this time around. NAZ has to accommodate for that and JCA's new screen pass. Two last game! First time that has happened in 30 years! LOL!!

Turnovers..Turnovers..Turnovers...can both QB's avoid the huge mistake? Both have thrown their fair share of INT's. Special teams will decide this game...punting game and Kickoff return defense will win it for one of them. In Game 1- Naz with the mysterious fake punt that led to the gimme TD before halftime and the Long 2nd half KO return by JCA stopped the comeback dead in its tracks--huge 14pt swing

At the risk of being redundant from a previous post on another thread:

With all the thoughts about great running and/or throwing games on either side of the ball and the high powered offenses and the high score of the last game only one conclusion can logically be drawn. It will will be an incredibly low scoring game.

Game will come down to big plays, special teams, and penalties. I have a bad feeling that a long TD return by Love will be nullified by a behind-the-play block in the back, and that will be the difference. Naz always seems to go through stretches in every game where the penalties add up.

Love needs more touches this time around...

Speaking of Love, Naz walked him up to the LOS in the second half. He made a number of tackles at or behind the line. JCA needs to figure out how to negate his effectiveness in defensing the run from his safety position. Also, if Naz employs the same strategy with him on defense the whole game, how will he hold up on both sides of the ball over the course of the game?

He's one of the most fit players on the team.

Over the course of the year I've only seen him out after a long run of over 50 yards or so. So you give him a couple long runs and you can have him out on defense for 2-3 plays. Deal?

I don't question his fitness. I also don't question his effectiveness between the tackles at the LOS on defense. He was a huge key to Naz' 2nd half success in slowing down JC's run game. JCA needs to account for him....either get him blocked in the run game or throw over the top with Davis etc. The "holding up" reference was regarding his size. He's not the biggest guy to play that close to the LOS on D all game, and then also be a key playmaker on offense as well.

Is that rhetorical? Do you think I'd ask for it if they didn't have others back there?

Just curious, why? If the D has a stud safety that they are cheating up, you have to throw over the top to loosen them up, don't you? Does Naz have more in the secondary that would make JCA pay?

I think Jwar wants them to attempt to throw over the top so #56 can showcase his pass rushing skills.

Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing Dunn give Earl a special welcome back to Naz. I think my point was more if JCA was needing to pass for success that would be a huge win at the LOS for Naz and that there are several DBs that you wouldn't want to try to throw over the top on either. This game is going to be fun, but I won't sleep till Saturday night now.

Harold Davis is a very nice athlete but Naz has a bunch of those. If JCA is going to attempt to win through the air that plays to Naz's strengths, JCA has above a 50% chance to win but if they do it'll be pounding it at Naz. Naz needs to spread the field and win on the edges so to say.

JCA can not match the athletes Nazareth has in Ivory Kelly-Martin,Chris Simmons, Josh Oglesby, Christian Davis,Julian Love, Christian Simmons, and Justin Weller.

I think the fact that Naz wants to play fast only helps JC. Especially with Davis back. If JC was up against a slow ball control eat clock offense might have trouble. Being at first game ,JC had total control and play calling changed in 2nd half and aggressiveness on defense. Naz scored a perfunctory TD at end. As long as JC doesn't turn ball over 3 times they win or any special teams gaffes. Games like this won at los and turnover battle. JC completely dominated the los first game.

LMAO!............What?

whether you disagree with him is one matter, putting it in the LMAO!.........What? category is a more than a little out of touch with objectivity.

I consider epic as on point as any poster i know on the status players and here is what he had to say about KA:

"Aguirre was the best DL I saw last in the last few years and he only got bigger and stronger."

so, maybe hit the edit button.

You will get two points-of-view on that question:

Naz POV: No, Krisch can't cover the Naz receivers, so his return has little impact.

JCA POV: Yes, he is a 3-year starter and the leader of their defense.

His leadership may help them more than his play. I think Naz will try and get him out of the box and matched up on one of the speedsters. Sounds easier than it actually is though. However having a leader on the field can be much more important in this kind of game.

In her defense, Julian Love is the best defensive back and return man I've seen in some time, that includes JJ on the defensive side of the ball, Westphal and Huff, and plenty others.

if he can make post like that with out any facts or stats to back it up, than I can surely LMAO when I read it, does this make me out of touch with objectivity..... how? all he gave was a name........ so WHAT is he talking about? so please stop with your who's better than the other players on the field if you don't want to provide stats, and there's no need to question me cause if I name who i thought was the the best player I would give corresponding stats to prove it. who knows maybe he is right but i'm sure he is wrong try and sell me, until then LMAO........ WHAT? numbers never lie, prove it with stats you all should try it, I'm sure it will answer a lot of your unneeded arguments.

he's the best d back in IL I have seen since dwayne goodrich and I were roommates at Michigan's invite camp...and to be clear...i'm talking about goodrich.

to be fair, here is what I wrote about Love after the game:

"...as far as naz's secondary...or whatever position Love officially plays, he really really impressed me with his ability to get to the ball carrier. Reminded me of a HS version of polamalu."

what do you mean huh? Did you not understand my response to you accusing me of not having any objectivity to what I felt was an unsupported boisterous claim. I was also making it clear that I stood by my post and did not feel I needed to hit the edit button as you suggested, was I wrong to hope you would provide some kind of support for your argument or do you close with huh? wow, maybe you typed "huh?" by mistake? and you seem so familiar with the edit button.......
