In summary, he said Beamer is "tremendous" and that he is "behind him 100%."Not reading it, but if he is in fact showing support for Shane then that is the kiss of death.
You think Donati likes getting phone calls at 4 in the morning?Ouch. "Behind him 100%".
The cliche kiss of death.
I think Donati's rating Beamer's quality as a good guy above his coaching ability.Ouch. "Behind him 100%".
The cliche kiss of death.
Is a horse's head in the bed coming next?Ouch. "Behind him 100%".
The cliche kiss of death.
Did anyone else catch the subtle remark that even the highest paid employees need support?
I took it as a little double-edged. A boss reminding Beamer that he is an employee and he is the highest paid one at the school. Lots of implications from that.Yeah. I instantly got a mental picture of him giving a crying Shane a hug.

Who?
Nope. I've come to respect 18; he's sincere and legit.Do you have coopie's little puppy on ignore too? He has a new shtick, and thinks some character from the Rocky movies is a an insult to 18.

You though come off as just a beavis or a butthead; either one fits.

Renegotiate buyouts and contracts all you want as an AD. However, no AD should be telling any coach of any sport what assistants they should be hiring and firing. That is the HCs job. The AD sets the expectations for the program the next few years, and if the HC decides to hang on to that dead weight, causing the team not to meet the expectations, then he is cut (along with everyone the new HC doesn’t want). If I were Donati I would not fire Shane this year even if he finished 3-9. There are just too many open jobs. But I would lay down the law and force him to renegotiate his buyout in exchange for 2 more years and a new OC and staff. If Shane really likes it here and cares about the University he would do the right thing. If not, he's just in it for the money.
Normally I would agree, but not with this team and this HC. He needs supervision.Renegotiate buyouts and contracts all you want as an AD. I wouldn’t fire him until I had a deal behind the scenesIf I were Donati I would not fire Shane this year even if he finished 3-9. There are just too many open jobs. Right. Absolutely no good whatsoever would come from publicly berating the coach or acting like he is anything but supportive of him. Heck, as long as you are pulling for the coacch to succeed, how could you say anything else?I mean, what’s he supposed to say? The FSU AD just came out in support of Norvell.
He's getting another year. We're all expecting that. I wonder what the win total needs to be next year to get that vote of confidence though because another 4 or 5 max win season should mean "sayonara".If I were Donati I would not fire Shane this year even if he finished 3-9. I agree with the poster above that said no decent coach would let an AD dictate his coaching staff. But . . . the AD should make it clear to the coach that his job is likely riding on the results his coaching staff achieves next year. And he should also let him know that the AD will support him with whatever reasonable resources the coach needs to make whatever staff changes he deems necessary. You can lead the coach to the water, but he's gonna have to choose if he wants to drink or not.If I were Donati I would not fire Shane this year even if he finished 3-9. Beamer needs help from someone like Donati. He needs to sit down at the end of the year - like Monday after the Clemson game - and talk things out. He doesn't have to force anything on Beamer unless Beamer becomes obstinate. But he can explain that this is a business and Beamer's department is not producing. Help him explore ways to fix things.I agree with the poster above that said no decent coach would let an AD dictate his coaching staff. If Beamer needs help to do his job, he also needs a massive pay cut. No one should make $8million a year for a job they are incapable of doing.Beamer needs help from someone like Donati. I think some market constraints are in force. One more year to pull things together. We will see how long Donati stays that course.
Well, they are, but they aren't the only problem or necessarily the biggest problem. Then fire him. If my livelihood is based on my success, then I want to be in charge of my success or failure and the people I put my trust in.
If as the AD you feel you need to manage your HC’s assistants, then assistants aren’t the problem.
That's what I'm talking about. Use part of his salary to get the best OC and staff we can find.If Beamer needs help to do his job, he also needs a massive pay cut. No one should make $8million a year for a job they are incapable of doing.
Cut his pay back to around $2million a year and tell him you will talk about a raise when he is able to do the job he was hired to do without someone helping him.
